Diese Migration kann nicht von außen gesteuert werden. Gerade das macht sie so unberechenbar. Aus dieser Art des Wanderungsgeschehens ergeben sich viele Problemlagen. Entscheidend ist dabei wohl vor allem die finanzielle Absicherung durch eine Beschäftigung auf dem nationalen Arbeitsmarkt. Dabei bringen viele der MigrantInnen schon erheblich gutes kulturelles Kapital in Form von Bildungstiteln und Arbeitserfahrungen mit, sodass ein Einstieg gewährleistet sein sollte. Diese Studie geht dabei den Fragen nach, wie MigrantInnen der Einstieg in den deutschen Arbeitsmarkt gelingt, welche Probleme dabei auftreten, wo Unterschiede zwischen den unterschiedlichen Bildungskarrieren bestehen, wie das kulturelle Kapital aus dem Herkunftsland auf dem deutschen Arbeitsmarkt eingebracht und nutzbar gemacht werden kann, ob eine Dominanz von Bildungstiteln bei der Zuweisung von wirtschaftlichen Positionen besteht und wie Statusübergänge während und nach der Migration verlaufen.

Um dies zu beantworten wird zunächst der Begriff des kulturellen Kapitals definiert, dann wird vorgestellt wie ein Kind durch seinen sozialen Kontext, der anhand des kulturellen Kapital bestimmt wird, beeinflusst wird und anschließend werden Daten zur aktuellen Situation von Migranten am Arbeitsmarkt herangeführt. Im Fazit wird schließlich geklärt welchen Einfluss somit das kulturelle Kapital auf die Arbeitsmarktintegration von Migranten hat. Nach Angaben des Statistischen Bundesamtes liegt im Jahre 2011 die Gesamtbevölkerung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland bei 81,8 Millionen, wobei der Anteil der Migranten bei knappen 20 Prozent liegt. Mit diesem Begriff sind hier Personen gemeint, die seit 1950 in die Bundesrepublik zugewandert sind und deren Nachkommen. Die Zahl der Erwerbspersonen beträgt ca. 42 Millionen, darunter befinden sich 34 Millionen Personen ohne und acht Millionen Personen mit Migrationshintergrund. Der Anteil der Erwerbslosen ohne Migrationshintergrund liegt bei ungefähr fünf Prozent, der der Migranten dagegen ist er fast doppelt so hoch. Daraus lässt sich schließen, dass die Integration von Migranten am Arbeitsplatz also noch nicht im ausreichendem Maße gelungen ist und das, obwohl sie politisch beabsichtigt ist.

Research on the migration of highly skilled migrants has thus far predominantly focused on macro-structural aspects, whereas their actual integration at the workplace remains largely unexplored. The author investigates such micro processes of integration into the work environment in the case of Central and Eastern European migrant physicians in German hospitals, and attempts to understand the relationship between formal and informal aspects of integration and recognition.

Book excerpt: The migration of highly skilled individuals brings together two important and well-developed institutional systems: on the one hand, the organization of professions and, on the other hand, the state and its migration and integration regime. Therefore, professional migrants move between two levels of regulation. The first one applies to their specific professional group and regulates the acquisition of knowledge as well as the participation in the labor market. The second one controls the access to and settlement in a given country. Taking the examples of medicine and the information technologies (IT) in Germany and Chile, the present research asks how different institutional settings shape the cultural capital negotiation strategies of highly skilled Latin American migrants. Using Bourdieu’s relational theory and especially his concepts of field and capital, this book seeks to understand professions as fields and to follow the trajectories of highly skilled Latin American migrants within two transnational professional fields. Using a reconstructive praxeological approach, this book presents three typologies, showing how the interaction between (transnational) professional fields and national regulations creates different possibilities for highly skilled migrants to negotiate their capital and the strategies they develop to reach a good position in their host country’s labor market.

Einen Versuch in diese Richtung haben mit Bezug auf das Bildungsverhalten von Migrantenfamilien bereits Diefenbach und Nauck unternommen. Die Arbeit baut auf dem von diesen Autoren vorgelegten Versuch auf. Ergänzt wird dieser Ansatz um Zusammenhänge zwischen Akkulturationsstrategien und Kapitalienausstattungen von Migranten. Diefenbach und Nauck haben Bildungsentscheidungen in Migrantenfamilien nur vor dem Hintergrund derer Kapitalienausstattungen betrachtet. Im Kapitel 2.1 wird auf die verschiedenen Akkulturationsstrategien, die Berry unterscheidet eingegangen, von denen Integration eine (unter anderen) ist. Im Kapitel 2.2 wird der Stand der Integration von Migranten in Deutschland anhand einschlägiger Studien und Daten (wie sie z.B. im Migrationsbericht enthalten sind) beschrieben. Im letzten Unterkapitel werden bezogen auf den gegenwärtigen sozialwissenschaftlichen und öffentlichen Diskurs, Gründe aufgezeigt, warum bisher Integration nicht im erforderlichen Maß erfolgt ist. In Kapitel 3 werden die Kapitalientheorie von Pierre Bourdieu und die Arbeit von Diefenbach und Nauck, die als erste systematisch die Kapitalientheorie Bourdieus auf (Bildungs-) Entscheidungen in der Migrationssituation angewendet haben, vorgestellt. Anschließend wird in Kapitel 4 auf der Grundlage der Kapitalientheorie Bourdieus die individuellen und gesellschaftlichen bzw. strukturellen Bedingungen für eine erfolgreiche Integration im Sinne Berrys von Migranten in Deutschland vorgestellt. Die vorliegende Arbeit schließt mit Kapitel 5, in dem die oben genannten Forschungsfragen beantwortet und Überlegungen dazu angestellt werden, wie und inwieweit Integrationspolitik darauf hinwirken kann, dass Migranten Integration und nicht eine andere Akkulturationsstrategie wählen.
