Download or read book Seat by Seat written by Iain Dale and published by Biteback Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2015 general election is almost upon us, but the question on everyone's mind is also the one that no one seems to be able to answer: What's the result going to be? While political commentators all nervously agree it will be 'one to remember', the truth is that this is the most unpredictable election in recent memory. For the first time in British political history we are now in five-party politics, national swingometers are a thing of the past and opinion polls have been rendered almost irrelevant. Despite the challenges involved, however, political pundit Iain Dale has used recent polling, statistics and his famously sharp instinct to predict the result in each and every one of the UK's 650 constituencies. And if his predictions are anywhere near correct, Britain is on the verge of months, perhaps years of political uncertainty and upheaval. But will he be proven right? Only time will tell...

Book Synopsis Family Food In 2007 by : Great Britain. Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs
Download or read book Family Food In 2007 written by Great Britain. Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2009 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the latest in a series of annual reports based on the Expenditure and Food Survey, which asks all household members in the survey above the age of seven to keep a diary of all food expenditure. The report shows trends, over four years, in purchases by type of food and also converts these purchases to show energy and nutrient intakes. Total expenditure on food and drink has fallen in real terms by 3.8 per cent since 2004-05 (though there was a rise of 8.2 per cent in actual prices). In 2007 an average of £24.95 per person per week was spent on food and drink for the household and £11.37 per person per week was spent on food and drink not brought into the home. As well as the overall trends the report also contains tables of geographic and demographic analysis, and examines trends relating to government policies.
Download or read book Well-being written by Searle, Beverley and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2008-01-30 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are often told that 'money can't buy happiness'. But if money is not the answer then what is? This book considers this question by examining empirical data stretching back almost 10 years. Whereas previous concerns of individual well-being have been drawn towards the negative outcomes of life experiences, this book provides a new approach by directly addressing the circumstances under which high subjective well-being is experienced, often with surprising results. Drawing on nine years of panel data, the book examines demographic, social, spatial, health, domain satisfaction and socio-economic circumstances in a rich and complex longitudinal study, providing previously unknown information on factors associated with improved and sustained high well-being. It shows that subjective assessments of our circumstances are more important to well-being than our objective conditions and suggests that high well-being may be the key to improvements in people's subjective experience of a wide range of adverse (and other) life events. It also highlights that high levels of well-being are more likely to be associated with our social relationships and health status than with income or personal status, and that affluence is no guarantee to high subjective well-being and indeed may have negative consequences. The 21st century is seeing the emergence of a positive science, with a new focus on subjective well-being. This research adds new knowledge to the issues and debates which support the move towards a better understanding of the factors that promote subjective well-being. Such findings will be important to the international academic field as well as the national political arena where improving well-being has become a part of the government's agenda.
Download or read book Health divides written by Bambra, Clare and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIGHLY COMMENDED IN THE BMA BOOK AWARDS 2017 Americans live three years less than their counterparts in France or Sweden. Scottish men survive two years less than English men. Across Europe, women in the poorest communities live up to ten years less than those in the richest. Revealing gaps in life expectancy of up to 25 years between places just a few miles apart, this important book demonstrates that where you live can kill you. Clare Bambra, a leading expert in public health, draws on case studies from across the globe to examine the social, environmental, economic and political causes of these health inequalities, how they have evolved over time and what they are like today. Bambra concludes by considering how health divides might develop in the future and what should be done, so that where you live is not a matter of life and death. Danny Dorling provides a foreword.

Book Synopsis Financial management in the NHS by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Committee of Public Accounts
Download or read book Financial management in the NHS written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Committee of Public Accounts and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-03-20 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spending on the NHS is the fastest growing area of public expenditure, with a budget for 2004-05 of £69.7 billion, rising to £76.4 billion in 2005-06 and £92.6 billion in 2007-08. Despite the increased resources, the NHS reported an overall deficit of £251 million (including Foundation Trusts) in 2004-05, the first time since 1999-2000 that the NHS as a whole had overspent. In 2005-06, the overall deficit increased to £570 million, with a rise in both the number of NHS organisations (Strategic Health Authorities, Primary Care Trusts, NHS Trusts and NHS Foundation Trusts) reporting a deficit and the proportion of those bodies reporting a deficit. Following on from a report (HC 1059-I, session 2005-06; ISBN 9780102938159) published in June 2006, jointly prepared by the National Audit Office and the Audit Commission, the Committee's report examines three main issues: the factors that led to the deficits, the impact on the organisations involved, and the steps taken to recover the deficits. Amongst its findings, the Committee concludes that there are a number of reasons why NHS bodies are in deficit, with most organisations in deficit tending to have had a deficit the previous year. Bodies already in deficit looking to turn their financial position around can be disadvantaged as they are expected to recover that deficit in the next financial period. The NHS has been under significant financial pressure to meet the costs of national pay initiatives which the Department of Health had not fully costed, and as some NHS bodies have coped better than others in managing these cost pressures, this indicates that the standard of financial management expertise varies across the NHS, as does the level of clinical engagement in financial matters.
