Book Synopsis Basics of Microprocessors and Microcontrollers by : Prasun Barua
Download or read book Basics of Microprocessors and Microcontrollers written by Prasun Barua and published by Prasun Barua. This book was released on with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to Basics of Microprocessors and Microcontrollers! This is a nonfiction science book which contains various topics on basics of microprocessors and microcontrollers. A microprocessor is a type of computer processor where the logic and control for data processing are housed on a single integrated circuit or a few interconnected integrated circuits. The arithmetic, logic, and control circuitry needed to carry out the tasks of a computer's central processing unit are all included within the microprocessor. The integrated circuit has the ability to understand, carry out, and perform arithmetic operations. The microprocessor is a multifunctional, clock-driven, register-based, digital integrated circuit. It receives binary data as input, processes it in accordance with instructions stored in its memory, and outputs the results (also in binary form). Combinational and sequential digital logic are both present in microprocessors, which use the binary number system to represent numbers and symbols. On the other hand, A microcontroller, commonly known as an MCU (microcontroller unit), is a tiny computer that is housed on a single VLSI integrated circuit (IC) chip. One or more CPUs (processor cores), memory, and programmable input/output peripherals are all included in a microcontroller. Along with a tiny amount of RAM, on-chip program memory frequently also includes ferroelectric RAM, NOR flash, or OTP ROM. In contrast to the microprocessors used in personal computers or other general-purpose applications made up of numerous discrete chips, microcontrollers are intended for embedded applications. Automotive engine control systems, implantable medical devices, remote controls, office equipment, appliances, power tools, toys, and other embedded systems are just a few examples of the automatically controlled products and devices that use microcontrollers. This is the first edition of the book. Thanks for reading the book.

This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for a first course on microprocessor-based systems design for engineering and computer science students. It starts with an introduction of the fundamental concepts, followed by a practical path that guides readers to developing a basic microprocessor example, using a step-by-step problem-solving approach. Then, a second microprocessor is presented, and readers are guided to the implementation and programming of microcomputer systems based on it. The numerous worked examples and solved exercises allow a better understanding and a more effective learning. All the examples and exercises were developed on Deeds (Digital Electronics Education and Design Suite), which is freely available online on a website developed and maintained by the authors. The discussed examples can be simulated by using Deeds and the solutions to all exercises and examples can be found on that website. Further, in the last part of this book, different microprocessor-based systems, which have been specifically thought for educational purposes, are extensively developed, simulated and implemented on FPGA-based platforms. This textbook draws on the authors’ extensive experience in teaching and developing learning materials for bachelor’s and master’s engineering courses. It can be used for self-study as well, and even independently from the simulator. Thanks to the learning-by-doing approach and the plentiful examples, no prior knowledge in computer programming is required.
