Book excerpt: Stormy development of electronic computation techniques (computer systems and software), observed during the last decades, has made possible automation of data processing in many important human activity areas, such as science, technology, economics and labor organization. In a broadly understood technology area, this developmentledtoseparationofspecializedformsofusingcomputersforthedesign and manufacturing processes, that is: – computer-aided design (CAD) – computer-aided manufacture (CAM) In order to show the role of computer in the rst of the two applications m- tioned above, let us consider basic stages of the design process for a standard piece of electronic system, or equipment: – formulation of requirements concerning user properties (characteristics, para- ters) of the designed equipment, – elaboration of the initial, possibly general electric structure, – determination of mathematical model of the system on the basis of the adopted electric structure, – determination of basic responses (frequency- or time-domain) of the system, on the base of previously established mathematical model, – repeated modi cation of the adopted diagram (changing its structure or element values) in case, when it does not satisfy the adopted requirements, – preparation of design and technological documentation, – manufacturing of model (prototype) series, according to the prepared docum- tation, – testing the prototype under the aspect of its electric properties, mechanical du- bility and sensitivity to environment conditions, – modi cation of prototype documentation, if necessary, and handing over the documentation to series production. The most important stages of the process under discussion are illustrated in Fig. I. 1. xi xii Introduction Fig. I.

This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Applications, Volume 56: Digital and Numeric Techniques and their Applications in Control Systems, Part 2 of 2 covers the significant developments in digital and numerical techniques for the analysis and design of modern complex control systems. This volume is composed of 12 chapters and starts with a description of the design techniques of linear constrained discrete-time control systems. The subsequent chapters describe the techniques dealing with robust real-time system identification, the adaptive control algorithms, and the utilization of methods from generalized interpolation and operator theory to deal with a wide range of problems in robust control. These topics are followed by reviews f the decentralized control design for interconnected uncertain systems; the computation of frequency response of descriptor systems by rational interpolation; the techniques for the synthesis of multivariable feedback control laws; and the effect of the initial condition in state estimation for discrete-time linear systems. Other chapters illustrate practical, efficient, and reliable numerical algorithms for robust multivariable control design of linear time-invariant systems, as well as a complete analysis of closed-loop transfer recovery in discrete-time systems using observer-based controllers. The last chapters provide the techniques in robust policy-making in the global economic environment and the implications of robust control techniques for continuous-time systems. This book will prove useful to process, control, systems, and design engineers.

Book excerpt: The Science and Engineering of Microelectronic Fabrication provides an introduction to microelectronic processing. Geared towards a wide audience, it may be used as a textbook for both first year graduate and upper level undergraduate courses and as a handy reference for professionals. The text covers all the basic unit processes used to fabricate integrated circuits including photolithography, plasma and reactive ion etching, ion implantation, diffusion, oxidation, evaporation, vapor phase epitaxial growth, sputtering and chemical vapor deposition. Advanced processing topics such as rapid thermal processing, nonoptical lithography, molecular beam epitaxy, and metal organic chemical vapor deposition are also presented. The physics and chemistry of each process is introduced along with descriptions of the equipment used for the manufacturing of integrated circuits. The text also discusses the integration of these processes into common technologies such as CMOS, double poly bipolar, and GaAs MESFETs. Complexity/performance tradeoffs are evaluated along with a description of the current state-of-the-art devices. Each chapter includes sample problems with solutions. The book also makes use of the process simulation package SUPREM to demonstrate impurity profiles of practical interest.
Book Synopsis Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design by : G.N. Pande
Download or read book Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design written by G.N. Pande and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical methods and related computer based algorithms form the logical solution for. many complex problems encountered in science and engineering. Although numerical techniques are now well established, they have continued to expand and diversify, particularly in the fields of engineering analysis and design. Various engineering departments in the University College of Swansea, in particular, Civil, Chemical, Electrical and Computer Science, have groups working in these areas. It is from this mutual interest that the NUMETA conference series was conceived with the main objective of providing a link between engineers developing new numerical techniques and those applying them in practice. Encouraged by the success of NUMETA '85, the second conference, NUMETA '87, was held at Swansea, 6-10 July 1987. Over two hundred and twenty abstracts were submitted for consideration together with a number of invited papers from experts in the field of numerical methods. The final selection of contributed and invited papers were of a high quality and have culminated in the two volumes which form these proceedings. This volume contains papers on the themes of 'Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design' and 'Developments in Engineering Software'. Many new developments on a wide variety of topics have been reported and these proceedings contain a wealth of information and references which we believe will be of great interest to theoreticians and practising engineers alike.

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna and broader dissemination. tional publishing house to assure improved service Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 30 (thesis year 1985) a total of 12,400 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 186 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.
