Book Synopsis Microcirculation in Chronic Venous Insufficiency by : K. Messmer
Download or read book Microcirculation in Chronic Venous Insufficiency written by K. Messmer and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TThis volume contains expert articles on the physiology and function of the microvascular and microlymphatic systems, the physiology of microvascular fluid filtration and reabsorption, interactions between blood cells and the microvascular endothelium, and molecular mechanisms of leukocyte activation. The therapeutic goals in chronic venous insufficiency include reduction of postischemic leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction, repair of microvascular barrier and improvement of microlymphatic drainage. In addition to measures to counteract inflammatory reactions elicited by local ischemia, surgical procedures such as transplantation of lymph vessels and subfascial division of perforating veins by an endoscopic approach are reviewed. Written by leading experts in the field, this book provides the first synopsis of the role of microcirculatory disturbances in chronic venous insufficiency. It will be of particular interest to phlebologists, angiologists, dermatologists, gerontologists, vascular, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and general physicians.

Book Synopsis Inflammation and the Microcirculation by : D. Neil Granger
Download or read book Inflammation and the Microcirculation written by D. Neil Granger and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2010 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The microcirculation is highly responsive to, and a vital participant in, the inflammatory response. All segments of the microvasculature (arterioles, capillaries, and venules) exhibit characteristic phenotypic changes during inflammation that appear to be directed toward enhancing the delivery of inflammatory cells to the injured/infected tissue, isolating the region from healthy tissue and the systemic circulation, and setting the stage for tissue repair and regeneration. The best characterized responses of the microcirculation to inflammation include impaired vasomotor function, reduced capillary perfusion, adhesion of leukocytes and platelets, activation of the coagulation cascade, and enhanced thrombosis, increased vascular permeability, and an increase in the rate of proliferation of blood and lymphatic vessels. A variety of cells that normally circulate in blood (leukocytes, platelets) or reside within the vessel wall (endothelial cells, pericytes) or in the perivascular space (mast cells, macrophages) are activated in response to inflammation. The activation products and chemical mediators released from these cells act through different well-characterized signaling pathways to induce the phenotypic changes in microvessel function that accompany inflammation. Drugs that target a specific microvascular response to inflammation, such as leukocyte-endothelial cell adhesion or angiogenesis, have shown promise in both the preclinical and clinical studies of inflammatory disease. Future research efforts in this area will likely identify new avenues for therapeutic intervention in inflammation. Table of Contents: Introduction / Historical Perspectives / Anatomical Considerations / Impaired Vasomotor Responses / Capillary Perfusion / Angiogenesis / Leukocyte-Endothelial Cell Adhesion / Platelet-Vessel Wall Interactions / Coagulation and Thrombosis / Endothelial Barrier Dysfunction / Epilogue / References

Book Synopsis Clinical Investigation of the Microcirculation by : John E. Tooke
Download or read book Clinical Investigation of the Microcirculation written by John E. Tooke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1628 William Harvey published his discovery of the existence of the microcirculation which he deduced from careful anatomical and physiological study. Thirty-three years later, Malpighi confirmed the presence of capillaries through direct microscopical observation. Subsequent scientific advance has been slow, and in view of the fact that microvascular in the genesis and expression of many pathophysiology may be implicated diseases, our know ledge of human microvascular function is surprisingly limited. This ignorance attests to the difficulty of studying something that is both minute and inaccessible without disturbing the quantity that is being measured. In the last fifteen years, however, direct techniques have been developed for studying human microvascular pressure, flow and permeability. These methods have provided new insights into human microvascular function in health and disease. At the same time there has been a steady growth of new indirect techniques based on a w ide range of physical principles that reflect some or other aspect of microvascular function.
Book Synopsis Basic and Clinical Understanding of Microcirculation by : Kaneez Fatima Shad
Download or read book Basic and Clinical Understanding of Microcirculation written by Kaneez Fatima Shad and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microcirculation is key to providing enough nutrition and oxygen from head to toe. This is possible only through an extensive network of blood vessels spread around the body. Effect of microcirculation abnormalities stretch beyond one’s comprehension. The effects could be felt at any age, from the foetal life to the adulthood. The chapters present in this book describe how these abnormalities could lead to diseases such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis, diabetes, hypertension. Disorders of microcirculation could be related to the structural and/or functional damage to the inner lining of the blood vessels. Early identification of these disorders could benefit many ailments including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke.
Book Synopsis Microcirculation - Updates in the Next Frontier of Vascular Disease by : Aleksandar Kibel
Download or read book Microcirculation - Updates in the Next Frontier of Vascular Disease written by Aleksandar Kibel and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microcirculation reflects the vascular bridge which is the conduit of blood flow between the arteries and veins in the body. It plays a critical role in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body while also serving to wash away and eliminate biological waste products of metabolism. A complex interplay exists between the normal structure and function of the larger vessels of the body and the blood coursing through. This book discusses the evolving science in understanding the role of microcirculation in some of the most common and devastating diseases that plague humanity. By understanding the role of microcirculation in the normal feedback mechanisms that balance bleeding and clotting with the opportunities to manipulate this balance to treat disease, the impact on the individual and social burden of arterial and venous occlusive and thromboembolic disease can be substantial. Understanding disease mechanisms and enhancing our collective tools for diagnosis and treatment are some of the greatest challenges facing our global healthcare systems. The chapters in this book serve as a foundation for further research into the quest to reduce, if not eliminate, one of the most significant causes of major morbidity, mortality, and overall loss of quality of life worldwide. Without a doubt, the impact of the body’s microcirculation, as our understanding continues to evolve and as emphasized in this text, cannot and should not be underappreciated.
