This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon chip technology; microprocessor technology; information technology; or quite simply new technology. These are some of the names representing the microelectronics revolution depending upon the audience being addressed by speaker or writer. No previous new industrial development has caused such widespread publicity and discussion amongst users and researchers as the new technology. Concern is being expressed about the effects of new technology on employment, job satisfaction, social life, leisure activities and the economics of commerce and industry. The late 70s saw many doom-laden predictions of those effects but by 1983 both management and trade unions were taking a more objective view of the social and economic impacts, and many correspondents now see the new technology as a means of opening up new industries and overcoming the effects of world recessions. The "chip" has involved the factory floor, the office, the supermarket and the home. Electronic funds transfer, electronic shopping, microelectronic domestic appliances, word processors and microprocessor-controlled machinery mean that the new technology has pervaded all aspects of social and economic life, and the developed countries are now coming to accept it as part of society as a whole. Inevitably the flood of literature on the social and economic impacts of new technology has been overwhelming. Unfortunately the quality of information and arguments propagated at conferences, in journal papers and research reports has indicated that there has been little quantifiable evidence available on the effects of these impacts.

Book Synopsis Resource-Based Learning for Higher and Continuing Education by : John Clarke
Download or read book Resource-Based Learning for Higher and Continuing Education written by John Clarke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1982 Resource-Based Learning for Higher and Continuing Education was written with the needs in mind of educationists who are responsible for the support of resource-based learning in higher and continuing education. The rationale for this mode of learning is explored and the implications for an institution seeking to provide teaching and learning resources which may well be used by an individual student. To place the reviews of the techniques that follow into a working context, a brief case-history of the Dundee College of Education Learning Resources Project, a major implementation of resource based learning in higher education is presented. The accent throughout the book is on the practical aspects of resource provision. Special attention is given to the problems inherent in the initial preparation by teaching staff of such items as manuscripts for printed works and shooting scripts for visual materials. Economic methods of production and reliable and effective means of presentation for audio-visual materials are also considered, both for use within institutions as well as by home-based students.
Book Synopsis Games and Simulations in Science Education by : Henry Ellington
Download or read book Games and Simulations in Science Education written by Henry Ellington and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last few years, a large number of science-based games, simulations and case studies have been developed, and these are now starting to be built into the curricula of our schools, colleges and universities. The use of such exercises seems certain to increase as more and more teachers, lecturers and curriculum designers become aware of their great potential. Until now, however, these developments have been hampered by the fact that there has been no basic text on science-based games, and no source book to whcih potential users could refer to find out what exercises were available in their particular field. This book has been written in an attempt to fill both these gaps. - Introduction.
