Book excerpt: Is it possible that nearly 3,500 years ago, Moses was given the secret for attracting everything you've ever desired? The Moses Code was first used to create some of the greatest miracles in the history of the world, but then it was hidden away, and only the highest initiates were allowed to practice it. In this book, James F. Twyman reveals the Code for the first time, showing how it can be used to create miracles in your life . . . and in the world. By practicing the principles presented within these pages, you'll discover how you can integrate the most powerful manifestation tool in the history of the world into your own life.At the very heart of the Moses Code is the true function and practice of the Law of Attraction. You may have been told that this Law is all about "getting" the things you want--things that you think will make your life more satisfying. But what if that's just the first step, and cracking the Moses Code depends more on what you're willing to "give" rather than "get." That would mean that you have the power to create miracles in your life right now! It would also mean that you have the ability, even the responsibility, to use that power for more than just attracting money, a better car, or the perfect relationship. You're here to use the power of Divinity itself to create a world based on the laws of compassion and peace. That's the task that lies before us.

Book excerpt: Mexico, through the eyes of Sybille Bedford is a country of passion and paradox: arid desert and shrieking jungle, harsh sun and deep shadow, violence and sentimentality. In her frank descriptions of the horrors of travel - through bug-infested jungle, trapped in a broiling stationary train, or in a bus with a dead fish slapping against her face - she gains our trust. But it is the charmed world of Don Otavio which steals our imagination. He is, she says, "one of the kindest men I ever met". She stays in his crumbling ancestral mansion, living a life of provincial ease and observing with glee the intense life of a Mexican neighbourhood.

Book excerpt: "It was 12 years ago when I moved to Mexico, leaving my comfortable, familiar life and community, driving by myself to start a new life in a foreign country. Some sort of bravado or naivete or, as my friends would say later, courage, allowed me to pooh-pooh concerns about all the unknowns- culture, language, customs-and head off nonetheless."And so begins one of the more than two dozen essays in this anthology, written by "regular" women about their "regular" lives and how they decided to change everything and move to Mexico. In simple, engaging words straight from the heart, the contributors to Why We Left share their plans and preparations, hardships and challenges, joys and satisfactions as their journeys to new lives in Mexico unfold.

Book excerpt: Memoir of growing up in Mexico in the 1940s and 1950s by award-winning author."According to Soledad" gives voice to Katie Goodridge Ingram to tell the story of her bi-cultural childhood. She was born in Mexico City and was raised there and in Jalisco. Soledad speaks of being part American and part Mexican. She says: "My skin is white but my soul is brown." She knows city life with the family's multicultural and artistic friends. She also knows village life with no running water and no electricity. She feels like a hybrid but is intrigued by and devoted to her unusual immigrant parents who left the US to spend their lives in Mexico. Her father is a rare book dealer often away hunting for the find of a lifetime. Her mother is a designer with an adventurous spirit who learns to shoot a gun in order to protect their house from frequent burglaries. This story could be called "A border runs through it" to describe Soledad who manages two languages every day and is hyper-observant of the sometimes shocking differences among the Mexicans, Americans and foreigners in her life.Katie Goodridge Ingram was born in Mexico and lived there for many years, first in Mexico City and then in Ajijic, a village and artist colony on the shores of Lake Chapala in Jalisco. She wrote her first story when she was nine and has continued to write ever since. Much of her writing was influenced by the fact that, as a child of immigrants to Mexico, she felt neither completely Mexican nor fully foreign. In her articles for "Mexico City News" she followed two of her many interests: art and the cultural variety of people and villages in her area. In her gallery she exhibited the works of resident artists as well of visitors to the area and of newly discovered talent. When her children were small she co-founded a bilingual school with other parents. Her children are also bilingual and multi-cultural. Her poetry and short stories have appeared in a variety of anthologies, most recently in "SOLO NOVO: Psalms of Cinder and Silt." She is currently working on a novel set in the state of Michoacán.

This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this engaging, compassionately-written book, Gwen Chan Burton relates the powerful and moving stories of the many deaf children and youths-unschooled and lacking communication-who found language, a free education, community and friendship at the Lakeside School for the Deaf in Jocotepec on Lake Chapala in western Mexico. The book details how the group of dedicated Mexican teachers responsible for the school's success had to adapt the specialized teaching methods of deaf education to the needs of their students in this atypical, pioneering school. International support and creative fundraising by members of the area's expatriate community enabled the school to expand and offer a boarding program for students from distant villages who would otherwise have had no specialized schooling. New Worlds for the Deaf is a unique account of the risks and rewards of creating a pioneering school that gave seriously-disadvantaged youngsters and their families access to new hope and opportunities. Heartwarming stories of individual students and their accomplishments are interwoven with an account of the school's history and with anecdotes about the customs and culture of rural Mexico that remain true to this day. All proceeds from the sale of New Worlds for the Deaf benefit the hearing aid program for children in the Lake Chapala region, a program the author runs in partnership with the local committee that supports the CAM Gallaudet Special Education Centre in Jocotepec, Jalisco.

Book excerpt: Avery Baldwin is going back to California. This time the trip isn't just in her mind, as it has often been in the twenty years of marriage, memories, and heartache sine those bittersweet summers of her teenage years. Avery is finally ready to return to the mountains where she first knew love, friendship, violence, and shame, and where she may find the truth--however painful--among the shattered fragments of her past. Every summer Avery's family went to stay at a farm tucked at the base of a small mountain range called Crowfoot Ridge. Never quite connecting with her older brother, Adam, Avery instead grew close to the son and daughter of the Marshalls, the nearest neighbors, unaware that the fateful events of those summers would shape the rest of her life and haunt her hopes of happiness. Now a married, childless real estate broker in a Florida suburb, Avery constantly battles the stirring images of her youth. She and her husband live like strangers. He's a developer, willing to sacrifice the endangered wetlands for a hefty profit, while Avery spends too much of her time alone. Suddenly Avery can no longer deny her need to escape. Back at Crowfoot Rise she'll have the chance to see her childhood friend, Sylvia Marshall, and the first love of her life, Sylvia's older brother, Mars. She will also have to confront the tragic, brutal act that ended their days of innocence and threatened to destroy those precious bonds forever. Avery may not find what she hopes or expects, but she'll soon discover that the magic of Crowfoot Ridge is far from over. Avery drove by the shop after dinner. His shop, a converted depot. The sign said MARS MARSHALL, WOODWRIGHT. Her hand trembled on the steering wheel. Her breath caught in her throat. Twenty-one years since she'd seen him. She'd spent all those years looking for life, while Mars had gone on and lived it. Avery wanted to stop, but couldn't. She would sleep. Prepare herself. Avery fought for a balance between caution and harebrained recklessness. She would see Mars tomorrow.
