Book Synopsis Evaluation of Resistance Strain Gages at Elevated Temperatures by : R. L. Bloss
Download or read book Evaluation of Resistance Strain Gages at Elevated Temperatures written by R. L. Bloss and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resistance strain gages of the SS-E-4D-A series, manufactured by Micro-Test, Inc., were evaluated at elevated temperatures. The characteristics determined were (1) gage factor at room temperature, (2) variation of gage factor with increasing temperature, (3) drift, (4)resistance-temperature relationship, (5) behavior under transient heating conditions, and (6) behavior when subjected to large strains. The results of these tests indicate that these gages, when attached to stainless steel, have repeatable gage factor characteristics, a very low temperature coefficient of resistance, low drift at temperatures up to 700¿̐ư F, and the ability to withstand large tensile strains without failure.

Book excerpt: Resistance strain gages of the S-700 series, manufactured by the Instruments Division of the Budd Company (formerly the Tatnall Measuring Systems Company) were evaluated at elevated temperatures. The characteristics determined were (1) gage factor at room temperature, (2) variation of gage factor with increasing temperature, (3) drift, (4) resistance-temperature relationship, (5) behavior when subjected to large strains and (6) behavior under transient heating conditions¿̐ư The results of these tests indicate that, when attached to stainless steel, the use of these gages may be limited by the effect of gage history on the gage factor; the high drift rate at about 800¿̐ư F; the high temperature coefficient of resistance, especially at about 1000¿̐ư F; and the difficulty in maintaining a good bond to stainless steel at 1500¿̐ư F.

The characteristics determined were (1) gage factor at room temperature, (2) variation of gage factor with increasing temperature, (3) drift, (4) resistance- temperature relationship, (5) behavior under transient heating conditions, and (6) behavior when subjected to large strains. The results of these tests indicate that these gages, when attached to stainless steel, have a high but somewhat erratic gage factor, low drift at temperatures up to 700¿̐ư F, and a high but stable temperature coefficient of resistance. Download or read book Development of High-temperature Strain Gages written by J. W. Pitts and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary is presented of a research program aimed at the improvement of high-temperature strain gages of the electrical resistance type. Potential ceramic and metal components were evaluated and a gage was devised that was based on these evaluations. This gage (NBS 5B) was flexible and easy to install; however, it lacked resistance stability at higher temperatures. In an attempt to minimize this deficiency, ceramic cements were developed that showed greater electrical resistivity than had been previously observed in the range 800 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit; also, a technique was devised for increasing the resistance to ground by applying a fired-on ceramic coating to the grid of a specifically developed unbacked gage. A study was made of the cause of the erratic response of cemented gages that had not been preheated prior to use. There were strong indications that the erratic response was caused mostly by the rapid decrease in resistance that accompanied structural changes in the cement.
