Book excerpt: "Cybercrime costs firms USD 1 trillion globally" - Headlines like this released by Reuters news agency on 29th January 2009 tend to regularly dominate international press lately. Surveys indicate that insiders like employees are one of the biggest threats to data security within organisations. As a result of improper account management users accumulate a number of excessive rights over time, resulting in the so called identity chaos. In the course of constantly growing IT infrastructures on the one hand, as well as the legislative regulations and law on the other hand, role-based Identity Management in particular has become a means of solving the identity chaos and meeting data security requirements. However, the central challenge organisations face in this context is how to construct a role catalogue for their Identity Management infrastructure. Some companies deal with this issue by applying predominantly manual procedures based on organisational and operational structures. These approaches are known as Role Engineering methodologies. Throughout the last few years, so-called Role Mining methodologies which use Data Mining techniques that cluster existing access rights of employees have evolved as alternative approaches. Recent findings show that a combination of Role Engineering and Role Mining is necessary to define a good collection of roles. This book gives insight into a hybrid tool-supported methodology for cleansing identity and account data and developing business roles for employees using Role Engineering and Role Mining techniques. Its main goals are to increase the overall user management data quality and support companies throughout a semi-automated process of defining roles. The methodology considers existing employee information and access privileges without neglecting organisational structures and business experts' knowledge about the organisation.

Book excerpt: With increasing global concerns toward environmental protection and sustainable development, green supply chain management (GSCM) has drawn much attention from academicians and practitioners. Selecting an optimal green supplier is a critical part of GSCM, which can be viewed as a kind of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. To derive the best result, large group of decision makers are often involved in the green supplier selection nowadays. Besides, decision makers tend to express their evaluations utilizing uncertain linguistic terms due to the vagueness of human thinking. Hence, this paper aims to propose a hybrid MCDM approach for green supplier selection within the large group setting. More concretely, interval-valued intuitionistic uncertain linguistic sets (IVIULSs) are applied for assessing the performance of green suppliers concerning each criterion. Ant colony algorithm is utilized to cluster decision makers into several subgroups. The linear programming technique for multidimensional analysis of preference (LINMAP) is adopted for the determination of the optimal weights of criteria objectively. Finally, an extended MULTIMOORA approach is utilized to generate the ranking of alternative suppliers. The practicality and usefulness of the developed large group green supplier selection framework is illustrated using an empirical example of a real estate company.

Book excerpt: Applied RVE Reconstruction and Homogenization of Heterogeneous Materials Statistical correlation functions are a well-known class of statistical descriptors that can be used to describe the morphology and the microstructure-properties relationship. A comprehensive study has been performed for the use of these correlation functions for the reconstruction and homogenization in nanocomposite materials. Correlation functions are measured from different techniques such as microscopy (SEM or TEM), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and can be generated through Monte Carlo simulations. In this book, different experimental techniques such as SAXS and image processing are presented, which are used to measure two-point correlation function correlation for multi-phase polymer composites. Higher order correlation functions must be calculated or measured to increase the precision of the statistical continuum approach. To achieve this aim, a new approximation methodology is utilized to obtain N-point correlation functions for multiphase heterogeneous materials. The two-point functions measured by different techniques have been exploited to reconstruct the microstructure of heterogeneous media. Statistical continuum theory is used to predict the effective thermal conductivity and elastic modulus of polymer composites. N-point probability functions as statistical descriptors of inclusions have been exploited to solve strong contrast homogenization for effective thermal conductivity and elastic modulus properties of heterogeneous materials. Finally, reconstructed microstructure is used to calculate effective properties and damage modeling of heterogeneous materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the start of life, people used their brains to make something better in design in ordinary works. Due to that, metaheuristics are essential to living things, and several inspirations from life have been used in the generation of new algorithms. These algorithms have unique features, but the usage of different features of different algorithms may give more effective optimum results in means of precision in optimum results, computational effort, and convergence. This book is a timely book to summarize the latest developments in the optimization of structural engineering systems covering all classical approaches and new trends including hybrids metaheuristic algorithms. Also, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods are included to predict optimum results by skipping long optimization processes. The main objective of this book is to introduce the fundamentals and current development of methods and their applications in structural engineering.

Book excerpt: This monograph provides an introduction to the design and analysis of Hybrid High-Order methods for diffusive problems, along with a panel of applications to advanced models in computational mechanics. Hybrid High-Order methods are new-generation numerical methods for partial differential equations with features that set them apart from traditional ones. These include: the support of polytopal meshes, including non-star-shaped elements and hanging nodes; the possibility of having arbitrary approximation orders in any space dimension; an enhanced compliance with the physics; and a reduced computational cost thanks to compact stencil and static condensation. The first part of the monograph lays the foundations of the method, considering linear scalar second-order models, including scalar diffusion – possibly heterogeneous and anisotropic – and diffusion-advection-reaction. The second part addresses applications to more complex models from the engineering sciences: non-linear Leray-Lions problems, elasticity, and incompressible fluid flows. This book is primarily intended for graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics and numerical analysis, who will find here valuable analysis tools of general scope.

Book excerpt: The Fourth Conference on Fibrous Composites in Structural Design was a successor to the First-to-Third Conferences on Fibrous Composites in Flight Vehicle Design sponsored by the Air Force (First and Second Conferences, September 1973 and May 1974) and by NASA (Third Conference, November 1975) which were aimed at focusing national attention on flight vehicle applications of a new class of fiber reinforced materials, the advanced com posites, which afforded weight savings and other advantages which had not been previously available. The Fourth Conference, held at San Diego, California, 14-17 November 1978, was the fi rst of these conferences to be jointly sponsored by the Army, Navy and Ai r Force together with NASA, as well as being the first to give attention to non-aerospace applications of fiber reinforced composites. While the design technology for aerospace applications has reached a state of relative maturity, other areas of application such as mi litary bridging, flywheel energy storage systems, ship and surface vessel components and ground vehicle components are in an early stage of development, and it was an important objective to pinpoint where careful attention to structural design was needed in such applications to achfeve maximum structural performance payoff together with a high level of reliability and attractive economics.
