Book excerpt: La modélisation des problèmes de contact pose de sérieuses difficultés : conceptuelles, mathématiques et informatiques bien plus complexes que celles qui proviennent de la mécanique des structures linéaire classique. Motivés par le rôle fondamental que joue le contact dans les applications en calcul de structures, nous nous intéressons aux problèmes de contact unilatéral et frottement (statique et dynamique) en petites déformations. Cette thèse est consacrée à l'étude de certaines formulations et méthodes pour résoudre ce problème et se décompose en deux grandes parties. La première partie est consacrée à la présentation de la discrétisation hybride du problème de contact unilatéral avec frottement de Coulomb. Une formulation avec projection est étudiée et un résultat d'existence et d'unicité est donné pour le problème discret. Différentes méthodes de résolution sont présentées (Newton, méthode itérative, points fixes, Uzawa) et comparées en termes de nombre d'itérations et en termes de robustesse par rapport au coefficient de frottement. La deuxième partie concerne le problème de contact élastodynamique. Plusieurs schémas classiques d'intégration en temps (la θ-méthode, schéma de Newmark, point milieu) sont présentés dans cette partie. On donne aussi de nouvelles stratégies (schéma de Paoli et Schatzman, schéma avec la loi de contact équivalente, schéma avec la matrice de masse équivalente) pour venir à bout des difficultés rencontrées avec les schémas précédents. Cette dernière méthode nous permet de conserver l'énergie du problème et de montrer un résultat d'existence d'une solution lipschitzienne pour le problème de contact élastodynamique discret. Ces résultats sont validés par des simulations numériques.

Les méthodes duales consistent en la formulation du problème en termes de contraintes, vérifiant les équations d’équilibre local et les conditions de contact et de frottement et permettant d’obtenir une meilleure approximation du champ de contraintes qu’avec les méthodes classiques. Nous abordons dans cette thèse de nombreux points relatifs à la mise en place de la méthode d’éléments finis formulée en contraintes, à la résolution du problème via diverses méthodes numériques et à la prise en compte des conditions de contact et de frottement. Des comparaisons entre les résultats obtenus par cette méthode et par une méthode classique sont effectuées et montrent le gain de précision en termes de contraintes. Deux applications directes de la méthode sont proposées, la première est l’estimation d’erreur, elle permet d’évaluer l’erreur due à la discrétisation du problème de contact et de frottement par la méthode des éléments finis. La seconde est l’amélioration de la solution par raffinement ou remaillage, qui vise à diminuer cette erreur tout en minimisant les temps de calcul.

Les algorithmes pratiques de résolution du problème sont exposés ainsi que les résultats obtenus par ces méthodes sur un problème test proposé par le GRECO-CNRS. Deux problèmes d'identation d'un massif déformable sont également résolus numériquement. On généralise alors les méthodes numériques employées au cas des matériaux élastoplastiques. La loi de comportement adoptée est celle de Hencky avec écrouissage positif. Des exemples numériques sont présentés.

Book excerpt: Nonsmooth Optimization contains the proceedings of a workshop on non-smooth optimization (NSO) held from March 28 to April 8,1977 in Austria under the auspices of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. The papers explore the techniques and theory of NSO and cover topics ranging from systems of inequalities to smooth approximation of non-smooth functions, as well as quadratic programming and line searches. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with a survey of Soviet research on subgradient optimization carried out since 1962, followed by a discussion on rates of convergence in subgradient optimization. The reader is then introduced to the method of subgradient optimization in an abstract setting and the minimal hypotheses required to ensure convergence; NSO and nonlinear programming; and bundle methods in NSO. A feasible descent algorithm for linearly constrained least squares problems is described. The book also considers sufficient minimization of piecewise-linear univariate functions before concluding with a description of the method of parametric decomposition in mathematical programming. This monograph will be of interest to mathematicians and mathematics students.
