Download or read book Principles of Metal Surface Treatment and Protection written by D. R. Gabe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Metal Surface Treatment and Protection deals with the principles of metal surface treatment and protection. Topics covered range from electrodeposition and hot dip coating to diffusion and non-metallic coatings, as well as oxide and conversion coatings. The theory of corrosion protection is also discussed. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the corrosion of metals and the scope of protection against corrosion, followed by a detailed treatment of electrodeposition. The discussion then turns to the principles of hot dipping as a coating method; the formation of a diffusion coating; and the role of a non-metallic coating in corrosion protection. Subsequent chapters focus on the protection of oxide films against corrosion by means of anodizing, phosphatizing, and the use of tin free steel; testing and selection of a particular coating for corrosion resistance applications; and the theory of corrosion protection. This book is intended for metal-finishing scientists and students of metallurgy and metal finishing.

Book Synopsis Phosphate Surface Treatments on Steel by : Max Kronstein
Download or read book Phosphate Surface Treatments on Steel written by Max Kronstein and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of U.S. Patent literature concerned with phosphate coating of metal summarizes 179 patents in the field, with special attention given to the time factor, temperature and recommended pH. A critical review of the classification of iron phosphate coating materials and zinc phosphate coating materials as pre-paint treatments, in respect to their chemical composition is given. Here, it is understood that iron phosphates might contain primarily alkali phosphates together with small amounts of metal ions derived from metals which can be defined as to their standing in certain specific ranges of the electromotive series. Zinc phosphates, also, can be produced in many different ways whereby, in reaction with steel surfaces, iron ions will participate in the reaction of the bath and in the formation of the coating on the steel. It was found to be typical for metal phosphates high in zinc content to form a medium coating weight during the first 60 sec. of spray application. Between 60 sec. and 120 sec. spray-time, the coating weight increases rapidly to and above 150 mg/per sq. ft. Metal phosphates which are low in zinc content and are classified as iron phosphates, produce a medium coating weight during the first 120 sec. of spray-time. The coating weight does not increase considerably with longer spray-time.

Download or read book Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion written by Marcel Pourbaix and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workers in the field of corrosion and their students are most fortunate that a happy set of circumstances brought Dr. Marcel Pourbaix into their field in 1949. First, he was invited, while in the USA, to demonstrate at a two week visit to the National Bureau of Standards the usefulness of his electro chemical concepts to the study of corrosion. Secondly, also around the same time, Prof. H. H. Uhlig made a speech before the United Nations which pointed out the tremendous economic consequences of corrosion. Because of these circumstances, Dr. Pourbaix has reminisced, he chose to devote most of his efforts to corrosion rather than to electrolysis, batteries, geology, or any of the other fields where, one might add, they were equally valuable. This decision resulted in his establishing CEBELCOR (Centre BeIge d'Etude de la Corrosion) and in his development of a course at the Free University of Brussels entitled "Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion." This book is the collection of these lectures translated into English.
Book Synopsis The Complete Technology Book on Electroplating, Phosphating, Powder Coating and Metal Finishing (2nd Revised Edition) by : NIIR Board of Consultants & Engineers
Download or read book The Complete Technology Book on Electroplating, Phosphating, Powder Coating and Metal Finishing (2nd Revised Edition) written by NIIR Board of Consultants & Engineers and published by NIIR PROJECT CONSULTANCY SERVICES. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electroplating is the process of depositing a metal coating onto the surface of an object through the use of an electrical current. Electroplating has evolved into a highly complex process requiring a high level of precision and expertise. Phosphating is the process of converting a steel surface to iron phosphate. This is mostly used as a pretreatment method in conjunction with another method of corrosion protection. Powder coating is a finishing process in which a coating is applied electrostatically to a surface as a free-floating, dry powder before heat is used to finalize the coating. The powder can be made of any number of products: polyester, polyurethane, polyester-epoxy, straight epoxy, and acrylics. Metal finishing is the final step in the manufacturing process used to provide aesthetics and environmental protection. The electroplating market mostly is driven by the electronics and electrical industry and followed by the automotive industry. The demand for electroplating is rising rapidly from the end user industries which propel the growth of the market. The increasing demand for durable metals and growing use of adaptable manufacturing processes for a wide range of applications in the automotive, aerospace & defense, and electrical & electronics industries are likely to boost the demand for electroplating. With the growing demand for high-performance automobile components having excellent resistance to corrosion to enhance the appearance of exterior automobile parts, such as emblems, door handles, hood ornaments, and wheel rims, is driving the demand for electroplating and likely to continue owing to the increasing automobiles production in Asia-Pacific and other emerging economies in the Middle East & Africa. The zinc-nickel electroplating is one of the popular methods of electroplating in the automotive industry. The book cover various aspects related to different Electroplating, Phosphating, Powder Coating and Metal Finishing with their manufacturing process and also provides contact details of machinery suppliers with equipment photographs and plant layout. A total guide to manufacturing and entrepreneurial success in one of today’s complete process of electroplating to metal finishing in industry. This book is one-stop guide to one of the fastest growing electroplating, phosphating, powder coating and metal finishing industry, where opportunities abound for manufacturers, retailers, and entrepreneurs. The book serves up a feast of how-to information, from concept to purchasing equipment.
Book Synopsis Understanding Chemistry through Cars by : Geoffrey M. Bowers
Download or read book Understanding Chemistry through Cars written by Geoffrey M. Bowers and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the car anticipates its dance around the racetrack, the engine growls and pops, and all senses become immersed in the smell of exhaust vapors and the sounds of raw speed and excitement. As it turns out, these also are the sights, sounds, and smells of chemistry! The car is a great example of an everyday device with an abundance of chemistry hiding in plain sight. In fact, almost everything in a car can be described from a chemical perspective. Understanding Chemistry through Cars guides novice chemists and car enthusiasts in learning basic chemical principles in an engaging context. It also supports upper-level chemists in synthesizing knowledge gained over a chemistry curriculum and seeing how it can manifest in the real world. This book provides an overview of chemistry in relation to cars. Various topics are discussed including the ideal gas law, materials chemistry, thermochemistry, solution chemistry, mass transport, polymerization, light/matter interactions, and oxidation and reduction. The book incorporates expected learning outcomes at the beginning of each section, detailed and easy-to-follow example problems, appendices reviewing basic chemical topics, suggestions on how to use the resource in upper-level courses. Ancillary materials, such as a Twitter account and an associated blog, allow readers to explore the latest in the world of car chemistry, ask questions, and interact directly with the authors and other experts.
