Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The various designs of mercury barometers and manometers are briefly described, with a more extended discussion of the various design elements which may affect the achievable accuracy.Sources of error in measuring pressures are described in considerable detail, particularly for portable instruments, including sc * ale, temperature, gravity, capillarity, vacuum errors and return gas column. Methods of minimizing those errors and of making the corrections, including extensive tables, are presented.Standard conditions are defined and the pertinent properties of mercury given. The paper contains 65 literature references.(Author).
Book Synopsis Meteorological Measurement Systems by : Fred V. Brock
Download or read book Meteorological Measurement Systems written by Fred V. Brock and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-02-08 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats instrumentation used in meteorological surface systems, both on the synoptic scale and the mesoscale, and the instrumentation used in upper air soundings. The text includes material on first- and second-order differential equations as applied to instrument dynamic performance, and required solutions are developed. Sensor physics are emphasized in order to explain how sensors work and to explore the strengths and weaknesses of each design type. The book is organized according to sensor type and function (temperature, humidity, and wind sensors, for example), though several unifying themes are developed for each sensor. Functional diagrams are used to portray sensors as a set of logical functions, and static sensitivity is derived from a sensor's transfer equation, focusing attention on sensor physics and on ways in which particular designs might be improved. Sensor performance specifications are explored, helping to compare various instruments and to tell users what to expect as a reasonable level of performance. Finally, the text examines the critical area of environmental exposure of instruments. In a well-designed, properly installed, and well-maintained meteorological measurement system, exposure problems are usually the largest source of error, making this chapter one of the most useful sections of the book.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Engineer's Data Handbook by : J. Carvill
Download or read book Mechanical Engineer's Data Handbook written by J. Carvill and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical Engineer's Data Handbook provides a comprehensive yet concise set of information relevant in the practice of mechanical engineering. The book is comprised of eight chapters that cover the main disciplines of mechanical engineering. The text first details the strengths of materials, and then proceeds to discussing applied mechanics. Next, the book talks about thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. The fifth chapter presents manufacturing technology, which includes cutting tools, metal forming processes, and soldering and brazing. The next two chapters deal with engineering materials and measurements, respectively. The last chapter of the text presents general data, such as units, symbols, and fasteners. The book will be most useful to students and practitioners of mechanical engineering.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Engineering by : Alan Darbyshire
Download or read book Mechanical Engineering written by Alan Darbyshire and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-13 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its fourth edition, Mechanical Engineering has been revised to be in line with the technical qualifications of the new engineering apprenticeship standards at Level 3. In addition, four new chapters are included that cover static and dynamic engineering systems, fluid systems and additive manufacturing. The text covers eight units of the BTEC L3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Technical Knowledge qualification, as well as some content in the BTEC National Engineering Syllabus and BTEC L3 Aerospace and Aviation Engineering specialist qualifications. It also covers some of the content in the EAL L3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Technical Knowledge qualification. To enhance learning, mathematical theory is backed up with numerous examples to work through. There are also activities for students to complete out of the classroom that help put the theory into context. Test your knowledge quizzes throughout the text enable students to test their understanding, while end of unit review questions are helpful for exam revision and course work. This book is ideal for students undertaking Level 3 courses in engineering although students undertaking Level 4 engineering courses will also find the content of the book useful to their studies. Alan Darbyshire is a retired Further Education lecturer and experienced textbook author for Intermediate GNVQ and AVCE. He drafted several of the mechanical engineering units for the BTEC National specifications. Charles Gibson completed an aeronautical mechanical engineering apprenticeship, and then spent 16 years in the Royal Navy maintaining military helicopters before retiring from the military in 2008. Since then, he has worked in Further Education as the Head of Aeronautical Engineering at City of Bristol College where he also taught on several programmes, including BTECs in Aeronautical Engineering and Foundation Degrees. In 2013, he transferred to Yeovil College where he continues to teach on engineering programmes from Level 2 to Level 5. He has also been involved in the writing of engineering technical knowledge qualifications for several engineering apprenticeship standards.
