After struggling through a rocky start as an author, Thackeray would go on to write several well-loved novels, including Vanity Fair, The Luck of Barry Lyndon, and Catherine. In Men's Wives, Thackeray turns his keen perception and cutting wit to the subject of romantic -- and not-so-romantic -- relationships.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This enlightening work investigates the history, incidence, and causes of a unique sexual lifestyle pursued by increasing numbers of couples. The most common terms used to describe it are 'hotwife/cuckold lifestyle.' This sexual practice, a form of sexual nonmonogamy, is distinguished from swinging and polyamory in that the husband rarely seeks sexual contact outside the marriage except for participation in group sex with his wife and other men, while the wife is permitted, and often encouraged, to pursue unrestrained sexual encounters with other men. The author includes interviews and comments from couples living the lifestyle throughout the United States and presents the stories in an attempt to determine the history of this sexual practice and evolutionary underpinnings of this uncommon and socially taboo behavior in an effort to make it more comprehensible to those engaged in the lifestyle and those who are just curious." -- page 4 of cover.
Book Synopsis Boy-Wives and Female Husbands by : Stephen O. Murray
Download or read book Boy-Wives and Female Husbands written by Stephen O. Murray and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many myths created about Africa, the claim that homosexuality and gender diversity are absent or incidental is one of the oldest and most enduring. Historians, anthropologists, and many contemporary Africans alike have denied or overlooked African same-sex patterns or claimed that such patterns were introduced by Europeans or Arabs. In fact, same-sex love and nonbinary genders were and are widespread in Africa. Boy-Wives and Female Husbands documents the presence of this diversity in some fifty societies in every region of the continent south of the Sahara. Essays by scholars from a variety of disciplines explore institutionalized marriages between women, same-sex relations between men and boys in colonial work settings, mixed gender roles in east and west Africa, and the emergence of LGBTQ activism in South Africa, which became the first nation in the world to constitutionally ban discrimination based on sexual orientation. Also included are oral histories, folklore, and translations of early ethnographic reports by German and French observers. Boy-Wives and Female Husbands was the first serious study of same-sex sexuality and gender diversity in Africa, and this edition includes a new foreword by Marc Epprecht that underscores the significance of the book for a new generation of African scholars, as well as reflections on the book's genesis by the late Stephen O. Murray. This book is freely available in an open access edition thanks to the generous support of the Murray Hong Family Trust. The good life wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter, though. Growing up in the Cleveland ghetto, his father was shot by a drug addict, he worked the streets to help his sister through college, and he made his fair share of enemies along the way. Yet not even his tough upbringing prepared him for the mysterious DVD that showed up on his doorstep, its contents revealing an explicit sexual encounter between his wife and another man, whose face was purposely blurred. Sierra’s betrayal is heart wrenching, and Denmark’s on the warpath to find out the identity of the man behind it. One thing’s sure: It’s someone close to him. Suddenly everyone is suspect, especially his two best buddies, and he’ll stop at nothing to exact his revenge–even if it means sleeping with their wives to get it. But when Denmark takes justice into his own hands, he discovers a truth even more shocking than his wife’s infidelity. . . . In this gritty revenge tale, Freddie Lee Johnson III takes us into the mind of a man consumed with grief and rage.
