Book excerpt: Welcome back to the White Sandy, where the cowboys are the Indians, but they also drive pickup trucks, have cell phones and occasionally advanced degrees. Change is coming to the White Sandy reservation--will the men of the Lakota tribe find their place in this new world with their women by their sides? The Medicine Man: The White Sandy Reservation needs a doctor, and Madeline Mitchell needs to do a little good in the world. It seems like a perfect fit, until she meets the medicine man, Rebel Runs Fast. As far as Madeline can tell, Rebel's sole mission is to convince her patients that modern medicine can't help them. And the fact that he makes her heart race every time he looks at her only irritates her more. Rebel swore off the white man's world—and women—years ago. But he's never met a woman like Dr. Mitchell. She doesn't speak the language, understand the customs, or believe he's anything more than a charlatan—but she stays, determined to help his people. He tries to convince himself that his tribe doesn't need her, but when patients start getting sick with strange symptoms, he realizes that he needs her more than ever. Originally published as Mystic Cowboy (2013): The Rancher: Mary Beth is the kind of woman who wishes she had a five-second delay on her mouth. The swath of verbal destruction she leaves is why she goes west to start over. But any resolve to hold her tongue is lost immediately when she meets Jacob, a Lakota cowboy who says next to nothing – especially about the black leather mask that covers half his face. Jacob’s silence is his armor in a white man’s world, but even that isn’t enough to protect him—or the mute girl he guards—from forces he can’t control. Fascinated by the masked cowboy and drawn to defend the girl, Mary Beth finds herself in the middle of a decades-old power struggle that only she could talk her way out of. Originally published as Masked Cowboy (2013) The Shadow: Nobody Bodine is a nobody who came from a nobody and will always be a nobody. He disappears into the shadows—no one sees him if he doesn’t want them to. He exists in neither the white man’s world nor the tribe’s, dispensing vigilante justice when he sees fit. Until Melonie Mitchell shows up on the rez. From the first moment he lays eyes on her, he can tell there’s something different about her. For the first time in his life, Nobody feels like a somebody in her eyes. Melonie has come west to run the new day care on the White Sandy Reservation. When she discovers that Nobody a self-appointed guardian angel for the boy in her care, she’s intrigued. But how far will he go to keep the boy safe? And will she be able to draw him into the light? The Wannabe Cowboy: Zack Baker will do whatever it takes to finish his thesis, including convincing rancher Sam Kenady to let him finish his zoological study on her land. It’s his last chance. Scarred by an attack that happened when she was a teenager, Sam runs her ranch with an iron hand. Her rules are nonnegotiable, and rule #1 is no men. But some rules can be bent—and others can be broken. Does Sam dare risk it all on a wannabe cowboy, or will their attraction cause everything she’s worked so hard to protect to go up in smoke?

It seems like a perfect fit, until she meets the medicine man, Rebel Runs Fast. As far as Madeline can tell, Rebel's sole mission is to convince her patients that modern medicine can't help them. And the fact that he makes her heart race every time he looks at her only irritates her more. Rebel swore off the white man's world–and women–years ago. But he's never met a woman like Dr. Mitchell. She doesn't speak the language, understand the customs, or believe he's anything more than a charlatan–but she stays, determined to help his people. He tries to convince himself that his tribe doesn't need her, but when patients start getting sick with strange symptoms, he realizes that he needs her more than ever. Note: This book was previously published as Mystic Cowboy Finalist in the 2014 Booksellers Best Award contest and the 2014 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence contest Mystic Cowboy is filled with tension, Lakota beliefs, a little science, and a whole lot of romance…Filled with history, and rich descriptions of each scene, this modern day Western/Romance/Intrigue/Medical novel has lassoed five stars from me.–Tome Tender Book Blog Four stars! Both generosity and greed play an important part in this love story where the tension mounts as illness threatens the entire reservation. Excellent character development is the highlight of Anderson's tale — Madeline and Rebel are often at odds as Rebel struggles to maintain his heritage and lifestyle while keeping Madeline by his side.—RT Book Reviews There is so much more to this story than hunky-cowboy-who-just-happens-to-be-a-Lakota Indian meets white city girl. Cultural differences create difficulties in Madeline and Rebel's relationship beyond just medicine man vs. doctor of medicine. However, the attraction between Madeline and Rebel is there from the start and heats up nicely. Don't miss Mystic Cowboy, and be on the lookout for the next installment in the series.–Library Journal I was hooked on this book from the beginning. Maddie's big life change was fascinating to read about, and I liked her character quite a bit. However, Rebel steals the show. He is enigmatic, sexy and so perfect for Maddie that I couldn't put "Mystic Cowboy" down…If you like contemporary stories about Native Americans and/or cowboys, you can't miss with "Mystic Cowboy." It is a delight to read, with a sensational blend of suspense, sexiness and romance.—Romance Novel News

Book excerpt: "A dollyflod spring is dessert after a Brussels sprouts winter!" That's what my Grans said every year as we planted dollyflods--what everyone else called daffodils. Some winters are a little more bitter than others, she said, but that just makes the spring all the more sweet. In this short contemporary story from award-winning author Sarah M. Anderson, we're reminded that even in times of darkness and loss, there's still hope. Content warning: This short story includes daffodils, the loss of a grandparent, and growing up.

A sweet, charming romance slowly builds between Tammy and Clarence.”–Danielle, The Book Palace 4 feathers! “A sweet, well written novella about two people taking a chance on each other and not letting their pasts, or insecurities, keep them from what could turn out to be a real good thing. I pretty much fell in love with Clarence within the first page, maybe second, of this novella and seriously, what isn’t there to love about him?”–Evermore Books 4 stars! “I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series so far, and loved the little scene with Rebel and Nobody, and this is a wonderful little slice of life installment for two characters that we’ve gotten to meet and see throughout the series.”–Books n’ Wine 4 stars! “A sweet romance that continues the Men of the White Sandy series that is very enjoyable.”–Ramblings from a Chaotic Mind B! “The romance is kind of earthy and sweet, with just a right amount of sexy.”–Red Hot Books 4 stars! “This is a very quick read but a sweet one. If you’ve read the rest in the series you definitely want to grab this one and if you haven’t read the series.. well…. get moving!”–Books-a-holic Anon 4 stars! “Even though this is a novella length read, the warmth, caring and sweet side of romance is all there and feels good.”–Tome Tender

Book excerpt: The last thing he needs is another person he has to protect… Tim Means is the sheriff on the White Sandy Reservation—a thankless job on the best of days. He’s trying to keep a gang war from breaking out, vigilantes from running amuck and he’s doing it all with a two-man force. When a kid named Georgey gets busted breaking into the Clinic, Tim doesn’t have time to keep the kid on the straight and narrow. He needs a relative to take the teen off his hands. But who? The only person who could take custody of Georgey is Summer Collins, Georgey’s half-sister. She hasn’t been on the White Sandy in almost fifteen years . But what choice does she have? She made a promise to her father to look out for her little brother, so she gives up her job teaching summer school and her hopes of a summer fling to venture west and meet a brother she barely remembers. But what she finds on the White Sandy is more than just a family or a sense of belonging. She meets one sexy sheriff and suddenly, a summer fling seems like just the thing. But things on the White Sandy are never simple—or easy. When the gang war threatens Summer and her brother, will Tim be able to do his job—or will his heart get in the way? Warning: This book features smart-mouthed teenagers, poverty issues, dyslexia, jackalopes, and car sex. Plan accordingly! 4.5 stars! “Unexpected love at it's best! I've really enjoyed this entire series, but Sheriff Tim turned out to be one of my very favorites. I wasn't expecting it. I went into the book thinking he was a surly jerk ... but it didn't take long to figure out that he really had a heart of gold. Great characters, an emotional story of family and second chances and a sweet love story. Great read!” — Thoughts of a Blonde 5 stars! “I loved the way the characters worked together to help the young people on the reservation. The attraction between Tim and Summer was sizzling, yet they faced real problems and put the needs of others first, for the most part. It was great to see all the other characters from the previous White Sandy books. They were a real part of the story, instead of just making a pop-up appearance.”— Mary D, Reviewer 4 Stars! “It’s good to be back in the Dakota's on the White Sandy Lakota Indian Reservation.”— Cindy O, Reviewer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My son asked me to write the things I did while growing up. The two chapters I thought I could write became forty-four chapters. My memories are happy moments, as I grew up during the Depression in a wonderful Christian home six miles south of Littlefield, Texas. The moment my Father saw me, he called me his Plains Angel. My Mother was a kind and thoughtful person with a precious disposition and always spoke with positive words. Living with my brothers and sisters was like having my best friends with me at all times. Life was great even with the sandstorms turning our daylight to darkness, planting black-eye peas instead of cotton because of little rainfall, gathering eggs from tall haystacks, hoeing cotton from dawn to dusk, and learning how to preserve fruits, vegetables, and meat for our winter food. My Father was a great farmer and helped provide electricity and a party-line telephone system to our rural community. He is known as Mr. REA (Rural Electrification Administration) in Littlefield, Texas. I researched my Littlefield School system in 1913 and found Mr. George W. Littlefield had donated land for a one-room school building. Ms. Willie Armstrong taught school in April, May, and June with a yearly salary of forty dollars. My dream to help children and fill their lives with sunshine came true the day I began my teaching career in Plainview, Texas. After writing about World War I, World War II, and the following wars, I have a better understanding what my two brothers and other family members must have endured. I am thankful my three wonderful sons – Terry, Dale, and Randy with their adventures at home, church, school, Scout trips, did not have to experience the pain of war. My life has been blessed with a wonderful husband, three great sons that are successful, a great daughter-in-law, and two precious grandchildren, Trevor and Lane. My joyful memories growing up on a Littlefield farm with my wonderful family gave me the foundation I needed for my life’s adventures and accomplishment. Bonnie Faye James Gaston

Note: This book was previously published as Masked Cowboy in 2013 “4 1/2 stars TOP PICK! Ms. Anderson writes with an entertaining and intelligent style… I thoroughly enjoyed this smart, complex and fascinating story.”–Night Owl Reviews “4 stars–The second Men of the White Sandy series combines a sizzling romance with a genuinely intriguing tale of a small town’s secrets, histories and sins. Her scarred hero’s story is absorbing, but Anderson wisely examines her heroine’s past with similar care, making this a story of two fully realized characters who challenge and fulfill each other. The mystery adds a spark to the plot, driving the action and ratcheting up the tension to create a novel that fans and new readers alike will enjoy.”–RT Book Reviews “4 1/2 stars TOP PICK: This is a sexy, slightly angsty tale between an emotionally and physically scarred man and a ball buster heroine. It made me laugh, made me swoon and made me mad; any book that elicits all those emotions has got to be a reread.”–Scorching Reviews “4 stars/Grade B. I recently read my first Sarah Anderson book (from a different series) and really liked her voice. When I found out this hero was scarred and a bit tortured, I had to try it. It got me all emotional.”–A Pleasant Journey “4.5 Stars! The story catches you from the start as Ms. Anderson weaves a tale of mystery and Indian lore that surrounds the reservation. I am excited to see where this story is going; I love the White Sandy area and those that live there.”–Ramblings From a Chaotic Mind “4 Stars! This is a couple who don’t have an easy path to love but it is a love you know will last as it is built on mutual respect and need plus a good dose of friendship… I really enjoyed it. I’m ready for more in the series especially… Nobody!!!”–Book-a-Holic Anon “4 Stars! Masked Cowboy is a perfect addition to the series. I love Sarah M. Anderson’s style and the unique characters she creates.”–Swept Away by Romance “4 Stars! MASKED COWBOY is one exceptional book! I was so impressed with Sarah M. Anderson’s writing talent. How she crafted such a deeply emotional, high impact story is very impressive. Jacob and Mary Beth are characters you quickly fall in love with, the secondary characters of Kip and Robin make this book outstanding reading experience.”–Mystic Reviews “4 Stars! With Masked Cowboy she gives a twist on the usual “cowboy” story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!”–The Book Queen “MASKED COWBOY is one exceptional book! I was so impressed with Sarah M. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upon the 100th anniversary of the most terrifying stretch of shark attacks in American history--a wave said to have been the inspiration for Jaws--comes a reissue of the classic Lyons Press account and investigation. In July 1916, a time when World War I loomed over America and New York City was in the midst of a deadly polio epidemic, the tri-state area sought relief at the Jersey shore. The Atlantic’s refreshing waters proved to be utterly inhospitable, however. In just twelve days, four swimmers were violently and fatally mauled in separate shark attacks, and a fifth swimmer escaped an attack within inches of his life. In this thoroughly researched account, Dr. Richard Fernicola, the leading expert on the attacks, presents a riveting portrait, investigation, and scientific analysis of the terrifying days against the colorful backdrop of America in 1916 in Twelve Days of Terror.
