The first nine chapters are, without essential modification, the discourse. Some account of the centennial celebration and the conclusion of the discourse make up chapter twenty-six. In view of publication, four subjects presented themselves for a more complete consideration than the writer had given to them, namely: the land-title controversy; the Bennington battle; the individual men and women of Bennington in the past times; and the Separatist antecedents of many of the first inhabitants, together with their promotion of civil liberty as to public worship.
