Book excerpt: Trouble Boys is the first definitive, no-holds-barred biography of one of the last great bands of the twentieth century: The Replacements. With full participation from reclusive singer and chief songwriter Paul Westerberg, bassist Tommy Stinson, guitarist Slim Dunlap, and the family of late band co-founder Bob Stinson, author Bob Mehr is able to tell the real story of this highly influential group, capturing their chaotic, tragic journey from the basements of Minneapolis to rock legend. Drawing on years of research and access to the band's archives at Twin/Tone Records and Warner Bros. Mehr also discovers previously unrevealed details from those in the group's inner circle, including family, managers, musical friends and collaborators.

Book excerpt: Strongly favoring the claims of Iran in the dispute, the author examines the historical background of the multifaceted conflict between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over the territoriality of three islands. Regarding the U.A.E.'s claims of sovereignty as a legacy handed down from British colonial domination of the area, the author discusses the histories of Iran, the sheikhdoms that became the U.A.E., and British influence on the area. The competing arguments made by the principles are then evaluated on the basis of the historical evidence presented. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Book Synopsis Weathering the Storm by : Tracy W. Mehr-Muska
Download or read book Weathering the Storm written by Tracy W. Mehr-Muska and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resilience enables us not only to survive adversity, but to be transformed by it. This book offers simple and proven strategies to develop resilience that will be of enormous benefit to anyone who is yearning to feel more peaceful and prepared. Coast Guard veteran, interfaith chaplain, and pastor Tracy Mehr-Muska shares the stories of her own struggles with self-esteem, sexual assault, and miscarriage that inspired her to research resilience and to enthusiastically reach this conclusion: resilience is not something that is inborn, but instead is a set of characteristics we can cultivate. Mehr-Muska brings these characteristics to life using inspirational secular and multifaith stories, as well as compelling scientific evidence. She ties each chapter together with an uplifting story of a personal friend that bravely and gracefully overcame obstacles and embodies each of these essential characteristics. Weathering the Storm also poses insightful questions for reflection and offers concrete strategies for implementation that can be used individually or in group contexts such as faith communities, families, and therapeutic relationships. Just as we practice fire drills before a fire happens, this book will help us be better equipped for the eventual storms of life so we can live with greater peace and preparedness.
Download or read book Do We Not Bleed? written by Mehr Tarar and published by Rupa Publications. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do We Not Bleed? Reflections of a 21st-Century Pakistani is a passionate, illuminating book about contemporary Pakistan. Comprising original profiles of diverse Pakistanis-some of whom are internationally feted and many others who are relatively unknown-as well as essays that examine the major fault lines in Pakistani society, the book offers the reader an insider's perspective on the state of affairs in the country today. The book is divided into five thematic sections, each corresponding to a subject that the author feels strongly about. 'Religious Persecution and Other Discontents' delves into the killings and oppression generated by religious discord that are now a routine feature of life in Pakistan. In this section we find stories of people like Ambreen, the girl who dared to take on the patriarchy and repressive customs and was burned to death for her defiance, and Qandeel Baloch, the self-proclaimed selfie queen, who was killed by her own brother, for daring to flaunt her sexuality and contempt for the hypocrisy that permeated the society she was part of; 'The Pakistan You Do Not Know' shows us little known aspects of everyday life in Pakistan; 'Remarkable Pakistanis' tells the story of, among others, Muniba Mazari, a quadriplegic whose inspiring story proves the resilience of the human mind and spirit and Shazia Mushtaq, the selfless educator of Yahounabad;'Family and Friends' contains personal narratives about members of the author's immediate circle; and 'The India Connection' crosses the border to profile aspects of India that the author cherishes, including Delhi and Amitabh Bachchan. Written in her inimitable style, Mehr Tarar's first book is a remarkably honest account of her beloved country.
