Book excerpt: In the post-meltdown world, it is irresponsible, ineffective, and ultimately useless to have a serious economic debate without considering and challenging the role of the Federal Reserve. Most people think of the Fed as an indispensable institution without which the country's economy could not properly function. But in End the Fed, Ron Paul draws on American history, economics, and fascinating stories from his own long political life to argue that the Fed is both corrupt and unconstitutional. It is inflating currency today at nearly a Weimar or Zimbabwe level, a practice that threatens to put us into an inflationary depression where $100 bills are worthless. What most people don't realize is that the Fed -- created by the Morgans and Rockefellers at a private club off the coast of Georgia -- is actually working against their own personal interests. Congressman Paul's urgent appeal to all citizens and officials tells us where we went wrong and what we need to do fix America's economic policy for future generations.

Book excerpt: In Liberty Defined, congressman and #1 New York Times bestselling author Ron Paul returns with his most provocative, comprehensive, and compelling arguments for personal freedom to date. The term "Liberty" is so commonly used in our country that it has become a mere cliché. But do we know what it means? What it promises? How it factors into our daily lives? And most importantly, can we recognize tyranny when it is sold to us disguised as a form of liberty? Dr. Paul writes that to believe in liberty is not to believe in any particular social and economic outcome. It is to trust in the spontaneous order that emerges when the state does not intervene in human volition and human cooperation. It permits people to work out their problems for themselves, build lives for themselves, take risks and accept responsibility for the results, and make their own decisions. It is the seed of America. This is a comprehensive guide to Dr. Paul's position on fifty of the most important issues of our times, from Abortion to Zionism. Accessible, easy to digest, and fearless in its discussion of controversial topics, LIBERTY DEFINED sheds new light on a word that is losing its shape.

Book excerpt: Presidential candidate and longtime representative Ron Paul of Texas is a true enigma in American politics: at once a libertarian who believes in outlawing abortion and halting illegal immigration, and a traditional conservative who fervently opposes the drug war, the PATRIOT Act, and America’s interventions in the Middle East. In Ron Paul’s rEVOLution, Brian Doherty, a senior editor at Reason magazine and Reason.com, documents the meteoric rise of Paul from relative obscurity to national prominence, and examines the fanatically devoted political movement that has arisen around him. Based on original reporting, Ron Paul’s rEVOLution is a remarkable portrait of an extraordinary man who has become a hero to a rising generation of cross-partisan young activists.

Book excerpt: LARGE PRINT EDITION! More at LargePrintLiberty.com The book is a quick read that covers the whole history of monetary destruction, providing information that most people have never heard or thought about. In that sense, it is the perfect conversation starter, and it could inspire more reading and activism for sound money. Author Ron Paul has been the leading champion of sound money in the Congress. He explains why sound money has meant the gold standard. The monograph is written in the clearest possible terms with the goal of explaining the basics of paper money and its effects of inflation, business cycles, and government growth. He maps out a plan to bring about a dollar that is as good as gold, one that would be protected against manipulation by government and central bankers. Part of that strategy is the minting of a new gold one but the more far-reaching plan involves a redefinition of the dollar and complete monetary competition. This monograph first appeared in 1981, and it has been in wide distribution ever since. But we've never had an edition this beautiful, this affordable, and this handy.

Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK This years Republican primary elections, a process that usually stretches across only a few states, have now spanned more than ten states. The candidate pool has withered from seven candidates to four: Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Jon Huntsman bowed out early in the process and Herman Cain left the field before the first voters went to the polls in Iowa. At the time this ebook was written, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were all still very much in the race. Though Romney was once considered a shoo-in frontrunner, Santorum has gained on him, and Gingrich adamantly refuses to step aside. But none of these candidates has captured young peoples attention nor generated the frenzy like Ron Paul. This primary season each Republican candidate vying for the nomination has played a specific part. Romney is the out of touch, wealthy, flip-flopping former governor of a state with a health care system that was basically a blueprint for Obamacare. Santorum is the anti-contraception, anti-pornography, Bible thumping conservative. Gingrich is the grumpy and delusional insider who calls himself a cheerful reforming outsider. But among all of these competitors, there shines a light of authenticity and likeability that is Ron Paul, who has established himself as the wise, anti-war, anti-big government, completely bona fide libertarian. MEET THE AUTHOR Deena Shanker is a writer living in San Francisco. After moving to the west coast from New York City in the fall, she is loving San Fran's beautiful weather, colorful architecture, and never-ending vegetarian food options. She loves visiting the beach with her dog, Barley, and eating cheese (also sometimes with Barley). She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Barnard College. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK In 1978, Paul ran for his own post, won, and was twice re-elected. In Congress Paul served on the House Banking Committee and advocated against the Federal Reserves actions. He fiercely opposed policies like federal intervention in world markets, earning himself the nickname of Dr. No. He was even invited to testify before the Senate Banking Committee about his position against the routine funding of the International Monetary Fund. As a freshman Congressman, this was an unprecedented event. In the 1980s, Paul agreed with the Reagan economic theory of cutting taxes, but he also broke with party lines by calling for cuts in spending as well. Tax relief is important, but members of Congress need to back up tax cuts with spending cuts, Paul said. True fiscal conservatism combines both low taxes and low spending. His advice met deaf ears, though: under Reagan, the federal budget ballooned to almost twice its size, and the deficit almost tripled. Book excerpt: Even as historians credit Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II with hastening the end of the Cold War, they have failed to recognize the depth or significance of the bond that developed between the two leaders. Acclaimed scholar and bestselling author Paul Kengor changes that. In this fascinating book, he reveals a singular bond—which included a spiritual connection between the Catholic pope and the Protestant president—that drove the two men to confront what they knew to be the great evil of the twentieth century: Soviet communism. Reagan and John Paul II almost didn't have the opportunity to forge this relationship: just six weeks apart in the spring of 1981, they took bullets from would-be assassins. But their strikingly similar near-death experiences brought them close together—to Moscow's dismay.Based on Kengor's tireless archival digging and his unique access to Reagan insiders, A Pope and a President is full of revelations. It takes you inside private meetings between Reagan and John Paul II and into the Oval Office, the Vatican, the CIA, the Kremlin, and many points beyond. Nancy Reagan called John Paul II her husband's "closest friend"; Reagan himself told Polish visitors that the pope was his "best friend." When you read this book, you will understand why. As kindred spirits, Ronald Reagan and John Paul II united in pursuit of a supreme objective—and in doing so they changed history.
