Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The microcomputer revolution has made powerful machines and highly complex programs generally available. This means that users of statistical techniques need no longer be concerned with the arithmetical and algebraic details - the software will take care of that. What is important, however, is to understand the ideas and basic principles of statistical analysis. when analyzing data. The authors explain the rationale of various widely applicable statistical methods and also indicate their limitations in order to enable people to make an informed choice. Topics discussed include a comparison of several groups, distribution-free methods, analysis of categorical data and statistical methods for diagnostic tests.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the proceedings of the fourth Medical Microcomputer Workshop held at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School on 3-5 September 1986. The workshop was attended by clinicians and computer scientists with an interest in applying computer technology to current medical practice. The problems ranged from audit and patient management through to the more complex applications of data analysis obtained from current diagnos tic techniques. The choice of microcomputers has never been greater with low cost making them readily available. A single microcomputer has limita tions in clinical practice and the use of networks for multi-user tasks has expanded its capability but increased the complexity both in terms of hardware and the software needed to run it. Although comprehensive commercial packages are available, none of these are entirely suitable for medical applications without modification. Many of the chapters presented in this book describe the problems encountered and the solutions achieved by configuring and modifying applications software.

Book Synopsis BASIC Microcomputing and Biostatistics by : Donald W. Rogers
Download or read book BASIC Microcomputing and Biostatistics written by Donald W. Rogers and published by Humana Press. This book was released on 2011-11-25 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BASIC Microcomputing and Biostatistics is designed as the first practical "how to" guide to both computer programming in BASIC and the statis tical data processing techniques needed to analyze experimental, clinical, and other numerical data. It provides a small vocabulary of essential com puter statements and shows how they are used to solve problems in the bio logical, physical, and medical sciences. No mathematical background be yond algebra and an inkling of the principles of calculus is assumed. All more advanced mathematical techniques are developed from "scratch" before they are used. The computing language is BASIC, a high-level lan guage that is easy to learn and widely available using time-sharing com puter systems and personal microcomputers. The strategy of the book is to present computer programming at the outset and to use it throughout. BASIC is developed in a way reminiscent of graded readers used in human languages; the first programs are so sim ple that they can be read almost without an introduction to the language. Each program thereafter contains new vocabulary and one or more con cepts, explained in the text, not used in the previous ones. By gradual stages, the reader can progress from programs that do nothing more than count from one to ten to sophisticated programs for nonlinear curve fitting, matrix algebra, and multiple regression. There are 33 working programs and, except for the introductory ones, each performs a useful function in everyday data processing problems encountered by the experimentalist in many diverse fields.

Book Synopsis Aspects of the Computer-based Patient Record by : Harold P. Lehmann
Download or read book Aspects of the Computer-based Patient Record written by Harold P. Lehmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-02-14 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the hottest political issues today concerns ways to improve national healthcare systems without incurring further costs. An extensive study by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in the United States formally reported that computer-based patient records are absolutely necessary to help contain the cost explosion in health care. The information obtained from experts, the studies conducted, and the conclusions that went into the IOM's report have now been collected in Aspects of the Computer-Based Patient Record. A large portion of the volume discusses the state-of-the-art in existing computer-based systems as well as the essential needs which must be addressed by future computer-based patients' records. A final section in the book discusses implementation strategies for changing to the electronic system and practical issues: Who will bear the final cost? How and when will healthcare providers who use the system be trained? This volume contains the concise, valuable information which hospital administrators, hospital systems designers, third-party payer groups, and medical technology providers will need if they hope to successfully transit to hospital systems which use a computer-based patient record.
