Download or read book Shot Peening written by Lothar Wagner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-05-12 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shot peening has been proved to be a powerful instrument in enhancing the resistance of materials to various kinds of stress-induced damage, particularly against damage due to cyclic loading (fatigue) in air or in aggressive environments. As shot peening can be used for a wide variety of structural components irrespective of shape and dimensions, the number of shot peening applications in many industrial branches is increasing. The use of peen forming as a technique to form large metal parts into complicated shapes is also increasing, particularly in the aerospace industry. The Conference covers all aspects of the Science, Technology and Application of Shot Peening, and was intended to attract users, manufacturers as well as scientists working in the field of "Materials Treatment by Shot Peening". Emphasis was put on the current state of knowledge and research. This book offers scientists and engineers an unique opportunity to update their knowledge on shot peening.

Book Synopsis Corrosion Issues in Light Water Reactors by : D Féron
Download or read book Corrosion Issues in Light Water Reactors written by D Féron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-06-22 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress corrosion cracking is a major problem in light water nuclear reactors, whether pressurised water reactors (PWRs) or boiling water reactors (BWRs). The nuclear industry needs to be able to predict the service life of these power plants and develop appropriate maintenance and repair practices to ensure safe long term operation. This important book sums up key recent research on corrosion in light water reactors and its practical applications. The book is divided into four parts. It begins with an overview of materials degradation due to stress corrosion, corrosion potential monitoring and passivation. Part two summarises research on susceptibility of materials to stress corrosion cracking and the ways it can be initiated. The third part of the book considers stress corrosion crack propagation processes whilst the final part includes practical case studies of corrosion in particular plants. The book reviews corrosion in a range of materials such as low alloy steels, stainless steels and nickel-based alloys. With its distinguished editor and team of contributors, Corrosion issues in light water reactors is a standard work for the nuclear industry. - Summarises key recent research on corrosion in light water reactors - Includes practical case studies

Book Synopsis Fracture Mechanics by : Robert P. Wei
Download or read book Fracture Mechanics written by Robert P. Wei and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-02-08 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fracture and 'slow' crack growth reflect the response of a material (i.e. its microstructure) to the conjoint actions of mechanical and chemical driving forces and are affected by temperature. There is therefore a need for quantitative understanding and modeling of the influences of chemical and thermal environments and of microstructure, in terms of the key internal and external variables, and for their incorporation into design and probabilistic implications. This text, which the author has used in a fracture mechanics course for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, is based on the work of the author's Lehigh University team whose integrative research combined fracture mechanics, surface and electrochemistry, materials science, and probability and statistics to address a range of fracture safety and durability issues on aluminum, ferrous, nickel, and titanium alloys and ceramics. Examples are included to highlight the approach and applicability of the findings in practical durability and reliability problems.
