Book Synopsis Engineering Properties of Nickel and Nickel Alloys by : John Everhart
Download or read book Engineering Properties of Nickel and Nickel Alloys written by John Everhart and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nickel is probably the most versatile of the metallic elements. Among alloys containing nickel are some having high corrosion resistance and others that retain excellent strength and ductility from temperatures approaching ab solute zero to those near 2000 F. Some nickel alloys are strongly magnetic, others are virtually nonmagnetic; some have low rates of thermal expansion, others have high rates; some have high electrical resistivities; some have practically constant moduli of elasticity; one has an "elastic" memory. In addition, nickel is magnetostrictive. With this wide range of characteristics, it is not surprising that there are several thousand alloys containing nickel. It is impossible to consider all of these compositions in this publication and, therefore, several alloys in each of a number of categories have been selected to indicate the properties to be expected of the group. Low-alloy and constructional nickel-containing steels have been excluded on two grounds. To do them justice would require excessive space and, in addition, their applications differ generally from these of the materials under discussion. On the other hand, nickel-containing stainkss steels have been included because many of their applications fall into the same areas as those of a number of the high-nickel alloys. Many of the compositions discussed are proprietary alloys and they are protected by trademarks. A list of the trademarks and their owners is in cluded in the appendix.

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) provided a new forum for the presentation of low-temperature materials research. The confer ence, held in conjunction with the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference, provided materials research personnel with excellent exposure to current develop ments in the cryogenics field and beneficial interactions with designers of cryogenic systems. Because of the large response to a late call for papers, the enthusiasm and encouragement at the meeting, and the wide spectrum and high quality of papers, the Second International Cryogenic Materials Conference is being planned along with the 1977 Cryogenic Engineering Conference for Boulder, Colorado, in the summer of 1977. The success of the First International Cryogenic Materials Conference was certainly in large measure due to the excellent hospitality of our Canadian hosts, the Royal Military College of Canada and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. In particular, the efforts of A. C. Leonard and his staff ensured an excellent conference and a pleasant and memorable visit to Canada. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board was both generous and skillful in helping to initiate this new conference and their guidance and acceptance is gratefully acknowledged. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference program chairman, M. J. Hiza, greatly facilitated the interaction for the two conferences and provided valuable assistance in generat ing a workable program. The proceedings of the 1975 Cryogenic Engineering Conference are published as Volume 21 of the Advances in Cryogenic Engineering and include many papers indicating innovative use of new cryogenic materials properties data.

Book Synopsis The Oxidation and Contamination of Titanium and Its Alloys by : J. M. Ferguson
Download or read book The Oxidation and Contamination of Titanium and Its Alloys written by J. M. Ferguson and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental programs concerned with the oxidation of titanium and its alloys are reviewed and results compared with those predicted by theory. Wagner-Hauffe theory is used as the primary basis for comparison, and its inconsistencies are pointed out. Fifteen binary alloy systems involving titanium are covered, as well as a few ternary and commercial alloys. A short section discusses the effects of oxygen or nitrogen contamination on the mechanical properties of titanium and its alloys. (Author).

Book Synopsis Designations of Alloys for the Aerospace Industry by : W. D. Penniman
Download or read book Designations of Alloys for the Aerospace Industry written by W. D. Penniman and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document presents a computer-generated listing of principal alloys of interest in defense work. Included in the listing are alloy designations, specifications, and nominal compositions. Because the report is machine generated, it is intended to be updated frequently in order to keep up with new alloys and specifications. This Memorandum updates DMIC Memorandum 223, which was published April 12, 1967. (Author).
Book Synopsis Weldability of High-strength Aluminum Alloys by : Robert Melvin Evans
Download or read book Weldability of High-strength Aluminum Alloys written by Robert Melvin Evans and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorandum describes the fusion-welding characteristics, mechanical properties, and stress-corrosion behavior of high-strength, weldable aluminum alloys. These are defined as alloys in which sound welds can be produced and in which at least 50 and 70 percent of the maximum base-metal strength can be retained in the as-welded and post-weld-treated conditions, respectively. Careful selection of joining method and filler metals as well as close control of joining-process parameters is necessary to produce high-strength aluminum weldments. Highest strengths and weld-joint efficiencies in high-strength weldable alloys are achieved with the use of postweld aging and/or mechanical treatments. The best combination of highest strengths and good welding characteristics is found in the 2000 and 7000 alloy series. As compared with the 2000 and 5000 alloy series, the 7000 alloy as a class suffer three major property disadvantages: (1) their tendency to be notch sensitive, (2) their tendency to exhibit low toughness at low temperatures, and (3) their much greater susceptibility to stress-corrosion cracking. Nonetheless, several relatively new 7000 series alloys have been developed which show reasonably good notch toughness to -423 F and which are considered competitive with the 2219 and 2014 alloys for cryogenic applications.
