We reconstruct a signal for the B-2!D(2!K+[pi]- )K- suppressed mode with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations, and measure the ratios of the suppressed to favored branching fractions R(K) = [22.0 " 8.6(stat) " 2.6(syst)] x 10-3, R+(K) = [42.6 " 13.7(stat) " 2.8(syst)] x 10-3, R-(K) = [3.8 " 10.3(stat) " 2.7(syst)] x 10-3 as well as the direct CP-violating asymmetry A(K) = -0.82"0.44(stat)"0.09(syst) of this mode. Corresponding quantities for B- 2!D(2!K+[pi]- )[pi]- decay are also reported.

These measurements are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 387.1 fb−1, recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− asymmetric-energy collider operating at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV. We measure the branching fractions relative to the well-studied decay D° → K−?+ and find?(D° → {bar K}*°?)/?(D° → K−?+) = (8.43 ± 0.51 ± 0.70) x 10−3 and?(D° →??)/?(D° → K−?+) = (7.15 ± 0.78 ± 0.69) x 10−4, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first measurement of?(D° → {bar K}*°?).

Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of R{sub B}, the ratio of the branching fraction for the rare decay D° → K?− to that for the Cabibbo-favored decay D° → K−?+. Charge conjugate decays are implicitly included. A signal of 2005 ± 104 events for the decay D° → K+?− is obtained using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 0.35 fb−1 produced in {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV. Assuming no mixing, they find R{sub B} = [4.05 ± 0.21(stat) ± 0.11(syst)] x 10−3. This measurement is consistent with the world average, and comparable in accuracy with the best measurements from other experiments.

Because of this ability, CDF II has accrued large samples of charged meson decays to fully hadronic final states in 64 pb[sup -1] of p[bar p] collision data gathered at[radical]s= 1.96 TeV. Using initial Run II data samples, the production cross sections for J/[psi], D[sup 0], D[sup+], D*[sup+] and D[sub s][sup+] mesons have been measured. Ratios of branching ratios for Cabibbo suppressed final states and CP asymmetries in D[sup 0] meson decays have been studied. A measurement of the mass difference m(D[sub s][sup+]) -m(D[sup+]) has been done, and a limit for the branching fraction of the FCNC D[sup 0][yields][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] decays has been set.
