Methods to reduce capture of the produced antiprotons by the target are discussed, including geometry of target and the use of a high intensity laser. Antiproton production increases substantially above 150 GeV proton incident energy. The yield increases almost linearly with incident energy, alleviating space charge problems in the high current accelerator that produces large amounts of antiprotons.

Book excerpt: I present a measurement of the tt¯ production cross section at s = 1.96 TeV using 2034 pb-1 of CDF Run II data using events with a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. The measurement assumes a t → Wb branching fraction of 100 percent. Events consistent with tt¯ decay are found by identifying jets containing heavy-flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The dominant backgrounds are evaluated directly from the data. Based on 248 candidate events and an expected background of 86.8+/-5.6 events, I measure a production cross section of 8.7+/-1.1+0.9-0.8+/-0.6 pb, in agreement with the Standard Model.

Book excerpt: The $bar ppto Ksb{s}Ksb{s}to4pisp{pm}$ reaction was investigated at incident antiproton momenta between 0.609 and 1.9 GeV/c (1.964 and 2.395 GeV/$csp2$) using the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN. This investigation was part of an overall program searching for exotic resonances in antiproton-proton annihilations, focusing on the region near the $xi$(2220). The $bar ppto Ksb{s}Ksb{s}$ cross section is presented as a function of center-of-mass energy over this region. Upper limits are set for the likelihood of the production of the $xi$(2220) in this channel based on its non-observation in the data presented. In addition, the differential cross section is presented over the limited region of the detector's acceptance. Near 2.149 GeV/$csp2$ (1.2 GeV/c) the cross section rises sharply, which is consistent with the $fsb2$(2150) resonance.
