This book was released on 1993-06-18 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The large range of applications of acoustical methods and techniques in modern society demands a thorough exploration of the nonlinear properties of sound wave propagation in different media and environments, and of the effects caused by nonlinear interaction of sound and medium. The great range of interesting physical phenomena which occur in nonlinear acoustics helps stimulate the extensive research in the field.
Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for lnformation and Numerica/ Data Analysis and Synthesis (C/NDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficia! to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After fi ve years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of ali concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and App/ied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. Ali back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 21 (thesis year 1976) a total of 10,586 theses titles from 25 Canadian and 219 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.

Book Synopsis Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions by : Holger Babinsky
Download or read book Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.
Book Synopsis The Pendleton Project by : Gary A. Herbert
Download or read book The Pendleton Project written by Gary A. Herbert and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pendleton (Oregon) Project, conducted between September 1968 and May 1970, was designed to study in detail the effects of meteorological conditions on sonic booms. Data consisted of booms of opportunity resulting from U.S. Air Force SR-71 training missions, flying at or above 20 km faster than Mach 2.5. These were recorded by a dense grid and line array of self-activated microphone-recorder systems; results were compared with those computed by the ARAP sonic boom propagation program using the observed as well as the standard atmosphere. A total of 46 sonic booms, involving over 1800 signatures, were selected for the final analysis. Meteorological data consisted of conventional upper-air soundings to above aircraft level, and routine, detailed sampling of boundary layer structure and turbulence by means of a specially instrumented light aircraft.
