Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-526/ The purpose of this project is to dig deeper into the data material already generated in the Suspect screening in Nordic countries: Point sources in city areas (TemaNord: 2017:561) to further optimize the benefits of the major work that has already been done. Samples (effluent, sediment, and biota) from all of the Nordic countries were carefully selected, sampled and analysed by a consortium of some of the Nordic region’s most experienced scientific groups in analyses of emerging environmental contaminants. But where perhaps the full potential of the generated data is still to be realized. This project will try to further identify and describe the substances already detected, to be able to better understand what substances we in modern Nordic societies release into the sea via our wastewater.

This allows readers to see the overall picture at a glance and find answers to the core questions: What is the pollution problem, and what are its sources? What is the "big picture," or what background knowledge do we need? How can we diagnose the problem, both qualitatively and quantitatively, using monitoring and ecological models, indicators, and services? How can we solve the problem with environmental technology, ecotechnology, cleaner technology, and environmental legislation? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on Waste Management and the Environment is organised every two years by the Wessex Institute of Technology in collaboration with other institutions. This fifth conference follows the success of previous meetings held in C diz (2002), Rhodes (2004), Malta (2006) and Granada (2008). Waste Management is becoming one of the key problems of the modern world, an international issue that is intensified by the volume and complexity of domestic and industrial waste discarded by society. Unfortunately, many of the practices adopted in the past were aimed at short-term solutions without sufficient regard or knowledge for long-term implications on health, the environment or sustainability and this, in many cases, is leading to the need to take difficult and expensive remedial action. With our growing awareness of the detrimental environmental effects of current waste disposal, there is a significant onus of accountability for effective waste management. Better practice and safer solutions are required. Not only is there a need for more research on current disposal methods such as landfill, incineration, chemical and effluent treatment, but also on recycling, waste minimisation, clean technologies, waste monitoring, public and corporate awareness, and general education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managerial Economics, 9th Edition, introduces undergraduates, MBAs, and executives to the complex decision problems today’s managers face, providing the knowledge and analytical skills required to make informed decisions and prosper in the modern business environment. Going beyond the traditional academic approach to teaching economic analysis, this comprehensive textbook describes how practicing managers use various economic methods in the real world. Each in-depth chapter opens with a central managerial problem—challenging readers to consider and evaluate possible choices—and concludes by reviewing and analyzing the decision through the lens of the concepts introduced in the chapter. Extensively updated throughout, the text makes use of numerous extended decision-making examples to discuss the foundational principles of managerial economics, illustrate key concepts, and strengthen students' critical thinking skills. A range of problems, building upon material covered in previous chapters, are applied to increasingly challenging applications as students advance through the text. Favoring practical skills development over complicated theoretical discussion, the book includes numerous mini-problems that reinforce students' quantitative understanding without overwhelming them with an excessive amount of mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eBook is a volume based on the “Eye Movements and Visual Cognition” Special Issue published in the journal Vision by MDPI and edited by Raymond Klein and Simon Liversedge. The eBook comprises 19 high-quality chapters that are original and topical works by leading academic figures in the field of human vision and visual cognition. In putting together the book, we aimed to provide an informative body of work to stimulate and foster useful intellectual exchange between individuals working on basic theoretical issues as well as on more applied aspects of vision and cognitive science. From the outset, we sought papers that provide concise and astute reviews of topics within this broad field. The present volume includes reviews that are narrative (critiquing and summarizing research on a topic), tutorial (with a focus on methods and findings), empirical (e.g., meta-analytic), and theoretically synthetic. The eBook also features chapters with new empirical content that resolves an undecided issue stemming from an evaluation of the literature. Finally, where possible, we also selected papers that bridge theoretical and applied issues and provide insight into behavior and its neural substrate. All chapters were subject to peer review and went through several rounds of revision prior to acceptance.

The preferred technology associated to recombinant antibody generation is mainly phage display. The adaptation of antibodies for infectious diseases is an area lacking information as most literature is focused on oncology or autoimmunity. This project highlights the power and potential of antibody phage display for infectious diseases. In addition to that, supplementary information regarding technologies associated to antibody generation and engineering in the context of infectious disease will also help to provide greater insight to the potential of recombinant antibodies for infectious diseases.
