Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2018 in the subject Computer Science - Programming, , language: English, abstract: The F5 algorithm proposed by Westfeld is still one of the most known algorithms in the field of DCT-based steganography. It can make a JPEG image a container of a secret message, where no one knows the presence of the message except the sender and the intended receiver. In this programming work, we show how to realize the F5 algorithm via Matlab. We present the block diagrams of embedding and extracting processes and the entire Matlab code of the F5 algorithm. Some Notes about the F5 Matlab code: 1- The implementation code works according to the method proposed by Andreas Westfield in his paper: " F5—A Steganographic Algorithm : High Capacity Despite Better Steganalysis ". Huffman coding and decoding are implemented using the Matlab JPEG Toolbox developed by Phil Sallee. 2- The two-part Matlab code included in the report, embedding and extracting parts, can be executed in Matlab IDE. The embedding part reads the cover JPEG file and the message file we want to hide, then it creates a Stego JPEG file according to the F5 algorithm. On the other side, The extracting part reads the Stego JPEG file, and then it extracts the hidden message file. 3- The F5 code calls the main two functions of Phil Sallee's Matlab Toolbox; JPEG reading and writing. These functions make it easier to access and manipulate the quantized DCT coefficients of a given JPEG file. Using Sallee's Toolbox should accord with the used operating system, whether it is 32 or 64 bits. 4- The F5 code contains the function to form the image matrix to show the input and output images. Running this function requires ALL the Sallee's Toolbox to be installed. Otherwise, the user can REMOVE this function from the code since it doesn't affect the main F5 process and thus keep ONLY using the main two function of the Sallee's Toolbox. 5- The message file we want to hide can be any file of any kind and whatever its extension. The size of the message file should be appropriate for the size of the used cover JPEG image, so no errors will occur when executed.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: 90.0%, language: English, abstract: In this paper we examine the calendar anomalies in the stock market index of Athens. Specifically we examine the day of the week and the month of the year effects, where we expect negative or lower returns on Monday and the highest average returns on Friday for the day of the week effect and the higher average returns in January, concerning the January effect. For the period we examine we found insignificant returns on Monday, but significant positive and higher average returns on Friday. Also our results are consistent with the literature for the month of the year effect, where we find the highest average returns in January. Furthermore we estimate with ordinary least squares (OLS) and symmetric and asymmetric Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) rolling regressions and we conclude that the week day returns are not constant through the time period we examine but are changed. Specifically, while in the first half-period of the rolling regression there are negative returns on Mondays so we observe the day of the week effecting, in the last half-period of the rolling regression Friday presents the highest returns, but the lowest returns are reported on Tuesday and not on Monday, indicating a change shift in the pattern of the day of the week effect. Full programming routines of rolling regressions in EVIEWS and MATLAB software are described.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2008 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: When Karl Sims did his award-winning computer animation ”Particle Dreams” twenty(!) years ago, he tortured a Connection Machine CM-2 computer with as many as 65,536 processors, using one processor for the simulation of each particle. Today we simulate tens of thousands of particles in real-time on a single cpu – even in a browser plugin – and advanced particle systems have become common practice for the simulation of snow, rain, dust, smoke, fire, and explosions in most computer games. Modern simulation environments like Processing can be used to produce such astonishingly addicting games as Falling Sand Game, sodaplay, BallDroppings, and Souptoys. In 2006, Traer Bernstein wrote a pretty impressing particle physics library for Processing, which actually was the inspiration for this particle system toolbox in Matlab. As a matter of fact, object oriented programming in Matlab is not really the fastest lane on the particle system highway; we are back at the good old days of some ten or twenty real-time particles. But – the main purpose of this toolbox has never been to develop state-of-the-art computer games; it was rather planned as an educational, interactive learning-by-doing playground, with the aim to understand the mechanical interactions (and maybe the mathematical background) of the particle system components. Have fun!

Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2002 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, , language: English, abstract: The workspace of RV-M1 Mitsubishi Robot is determined by an analytical method. The method is applicable to kinematic chains that can be modeled using the Denavit-Hartenberg representation for serial kinematic chains. This method is based upon analytical criteria for determining singular behavior of the mechanism. By manipulating the Jacobian of the robot by the row rank deficiency condition, the singularities are computed. Then these singularities are substituted into the constraint equations to parameterize singular surfaces. The boundary conditions of the joints are substituted to obtain the other set of singularities. These singularities are substituted in the wrist vector to obtain the range of motion of the robot wrist in three dimensional space, which is the workspace of the Mitsubishi Robot RV-M1. These singularities are plotted in Matlab to develop all the surfaces enveloping the workspace of the Robot. The toolbox developed also shows three dimensional view of the workspace, front view, and top view of the workspace. The utility of the workspace development is shown through a case study, in which, Robot wrist range is determined at different heights of Machine bed, for integration of Robot RV-M1 and VMC Machine. A loading and unloading application of the VMC Machine by the Robot can be planned using this data. This application is simulated using the developed toolbox.

Book excerpt: This book presents the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Internet of Things and Connected Technologies (ICIoTCT), held on May 9–10, 2019, at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, India. The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to usher in a revolutionary, fully interconnected “smart” world, with relationships between objects and their environment and objects and people becoming more tightly intertwined. The prospect of the Internet of Things as a ubiquitous array of devices bound to the Internet could fundamentally change how people think about what it means to be “online”. The ICIotCT 2019 conference provided a platform to discuss advances in Internet of Things (IoT) and connected technologies, such as various protocols and standards. It also offered participants the opportunity to interact with experts through keynote talks, paper presentations and discussions, and as such stimulated research. With the recent adoption of a variety of enabling wireless communication technologies, like RFID tags, BLE, ZigBee, embedded sensor and actuator nodes, and various protocols such as CoAP, MQTT and DNS, IoT has moved on from its infancy. Today smart sensors can collaborate directly with machines to automate decision-making or to control a task without human involvement. Further, smart technologies, including green electronics, green radios, fuzzy neural approaches, and intelligent signal processing techniques play an important role in the development of the wearable healthcare devices.

Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Engineering - Robotics, grade: 78, University of Sunderland, language: English, abstract: This report explains the final project, driver drowsiness detection system. When a driver doesn’t get proper rest, they fall asleep while driving and this leads to fatal accidents. This particular issue demands a solution in the form of a system that is capable of detecting drowsiness and to take necessary actions to avoid accidents. The detection is achieved with three main steps, it begins with face detection and facial feature detection using the famous Viola Jones algorithm followed by eye tracking. By the use of correlation coefficient template matching, the eyes are tracked. Whether the driver is awake or asleep is identified by matching the extracted eye image with the externally fed template (open eyes and closed eyes) based on eyes opening and eyes closing, blinking is recognized. If the driver falling asleep state remains above a specific time (the threshold time) the vehicles stops and an alarm is activated by the use of a specific microcontroller, in this prototype an Arduino is used.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital audio, video, images, and documents are flying through cyberspace to their respective owners. Unfortunately, along the way, individuals may choose to intervene and take this content for themselves. Digital watermarking and steganography technology greatly reduces the instances of this by limiting or eliminating the ability of third parties to decipher the content that he has taken. The many techiniques of digital watermarking (embedding a code) and steganography (hiding information) continue to evolve as applications that necessitate them do the same. The authors of this second edition provide an update on the framework for applying these techniques that they provided researchers and professionals in the first well-received edition. Steganography and steganalysis (the art of detecting hidden information) have been added to a robust treatment of digital watermarking, as many in each field research and deal with the other. New material includes watermarking with side information, QIM, and dirty-paper codes. The revision and inclusion of new material by these influential authors has created a must-own book for anyone in this profession. This new edition now contains essential information on steganalysis and steganography New concepts and new applications including QIM introduced Digital watermark embedding is given a complete update with new processes and applications
