Book Synopsis Touching the World by : Paul John Eakin
Download or read book Touching the World written by Paul John Eakin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1992-04-15 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul John Eakin's earlier work Fictions in Autobiography is a key text in autobiography studies. In it he proposed that the self that finds expression in autobiography is in fundamental ways a kind of fictive construct, a fiction articulated in a fiction. In this new book Eakin turns his attention to what he sees as the defining assumption of autobiography: that the story of the self does refer to a world of biographical and historical fact. Here he shows that people write autobiography not in some private realm of the autonomous self but rather in strenuous engagement with the pressures that life in culture entails. In so demonstrating, he offers fresh readings of autobiographies by Roland Barthes, Nathalie Sarraute, William Maxwell, Henry James, Ronald Fraser, Richard Rodriguez, Henry Adams, Patricia Hampl, John Updike, James McConkey, and Lillian Hellman. In the introduction Eakin makes a case for reopening the file on reference in autobiography, and in the first chapter he establishes the complexity of the referential aesthetic of the genre, the intricate interplay of fact and fiction in such texts. In subsequent chapters he explores some of the major contexts of reference in autobiography: the biographical, the social and cultural, the historical, and finally, underlying all the rest, the somatic and temporal dimensions of the lived experience of identity. In his discussion of contemporary theories of the self, Eakin draws especially on cultural anthropology and developmental psychology.

Book Synopsis Dictionary of Ancient Magic Words and Spells by : Claude Lecouteux
Download or read book Dictionary of Ancient Magic Words and Spells written by Claude Lecouteux and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive handbook of more than 1,000 magical words, phrases, symbols, and secret alphabets • Explains the origins, derivatives, and practical usage of each word, phrase, and spell as well as how they can be combined for custom spells • Based on the magical traditions of Europe, Greece, and Egypt and recently discovered one-of-a-kind grimoires from Scandinavia, France, and Germany • Includes an in-depth exploration of secret magical alphabets, including those based on Hebrew letters, Kabbalistic symbols, astrological signs, and runes From Abracadabra to the now famous spells of the Harry Potter series, magic words are no longer confined to the practices of pagans, alchemists, witches, and occultists. They have become part of the popular imagination of the Western world. Passed down from ancient Babylon, Egypt, and Greece, these words and the rituals surrounding them have survived through the millennia because they work. And as scholar Claude Lecouteux reveals, often the more impenetrable they seem, the more effective they are. Analyzing more than 7,000 spells from the magical traditions of Europe as well as the magical papyri of the Greeks and recently discovered one-of-a-kind grimoires from Scandinavia, France, and Germany, Lecouteux has compiled a comprehensive dictionary of ancient magic words, phrases, and spells along with an in-depth exploration--the first in English--of secret magical alphabets, including those based on Hebrew letters, Kabbalistic symbols, astrological signs, and runes. Drawing upon thousands of medieval accounts and famous manuscripts such as the Heptameron of Peter Abano, the author examines the origins of each word or spell, offering detailed instructions on their successful use, whether for protection, love, wealth, or healing. He charts their evolution and derivations through the centuries, showing, for example, how spells that were once intended to put out fires evolved to protect people from witchcraft. He reveals the inherent versatility of magic words and how each sorcerer or witch had a set of stock phrases they would combine to build a custom spell for the magical need at hand. Presenting a wealth of material on magical words, signs, and charms, both common and obscure, Lecouteux also explores the magical words and spells of ancient Scandinavia, the Hispano-Arabic magic of Spain before the Reconquista, the traditions passed down from ancient Egypt, and those that have stayed in use until the present day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encyclopedia of Ancient and Forbidden Secretscolorings, the S.S. has its own rites, festivals, rituals and burial customs. The "spiritual center" of the S.S. - dedicated entirely to the development of these and other public rituals, is the Ancestral Heritage Office.Reichsfuhrer S.S., Himmler, is an avid student of the occult. An SS occult research department, the Ahnernerbe (Ancestral Heritage) was established in 1935 with SS Colonel Wolfram von Sievers at its head. Occult research took SS researchers as far afield as Tibet. As soon as the Nazi movement had sufficient funds, it began to organize a number of expeditions to Tibet and these succeeded one another practically without interruption through the present day. It is conjectured that the Nazis wish to find Shambala, an ancient center of power which is said to be accessible through hidden tunnels in Tibet. The strongest influence on Hitler in this regard was Dietrich Eckart (1868-1923). Most biographers have underestimated the influence that Eckart exerted on Hitler. He was the wealthy publisher and editor-in-chief of an anti-semitic journal which he called In Plain German. Eckart was also a committed occultist and a master of magic. As an initiate, Eckart belonged to the inner circle of the Thule Society as well as other esoteric orders. There can be no doubt that Eckart - who had been alerted to Hitler by other Thulists - trained Hitler in techniques of self confidence, self projection, persuasive oratory, body language and discursive sophistry. With these tools, in a short period of time he was able to move the obscure workers party from the club and beer hall atmosphere to a mass movement. The emotion charged lay speaker became an expert orator, capable of mesmerizing a vast audience.
Book Synopsis True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order by : Paul Foster Case
Download or read book True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order written by Paul Foster Case and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a thorough presentation of the Rosicrucian system of initiation by Dr. Paul Foster Case. He explains that Rosicrucianism is based upon earthly organizations, but on personal unflodment, and clearly describes the distinctive marks of a Rosicrucian. The treatise is divided into two main parts by Dr. Case. The first is a careful examination and interpretation of the principle Rosicrucian maneifestos, the Fama Fraternitatis and the Confessio Fraternitatis. The second part is an explanation of the Rosicrucian grade system, as applied to the diagram of the Tree of Life and tarot attributions. By participating in the outlined procedures, aspirants are put on the right track of preparing themselves for union with the Higher Self, which may or may not include group work with an outer order or fraternity. The first editions of 1927, 1928 and 1933 were of limited publication. The fourth and most complete expansion of the text by Paul Case was finished in 1937, revised by him in 1953 just before his death and published in by Weiser in 1985. It represents the full maturity of his thought on this subject.

This is the condition used by Pat for the expansion and development of the higher teachings, i.e., they must enrich and inform everything else in the Golden Dawn or they cannot be part of the established Tradition. Book Synopsis Mathers Last Secret by : Nick Farrell
Download or read book Mathers Last Secret written by Nick Farrell and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Golden Dawn Tradition is experiencing a period of rapid growth and development. For over 100 years the rituals of the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega (R.O.A.O.) have been locked away in private collections and unavailable for many occultists to study and compare. The publication of these rituals are particularly interesting as they demonstrate the direction Mathers moved after he was expelled from the original Order of the Golden Dawn. As Nick Farrell clearly demonstrates in this book, Mathers moved to a Masonic style of operation in marked contrast to the Stella Matutina which developed in a Magical direction. Nick Farrell has made every effort to keep the rituals and diagrams true to the original Nisi material even when the discrepancies were likely incorrect. This is valuable for those who want to examine the material as close to the original manuscripts as possible. Nick Farrell's 'Mathers' Last Secret' will be discussed many years from now right along with Pat Zalewski's 'Golden Dawn Rituals and Commentaries' and Israel Regardie's 'The Golden Dawn'.

Langford Garstin was a Cancellarius of the Rosicrucian Order of the Alpha et Omega during the second quarter of the 20th century. "The Secret Fire" begins the journey with the documentation of various instances in which the SECRET FIRE is described including the Bible and continues with the various words of the Alchemists and Rosicrucians leading up to one of the clearest unveilings of our SECRET FIRE found anywhere. This is Alchemy, pure and simple. Garstin was a chief of an A.O. Temple and well versed in alchemy as this book indicates. Garstin was the first A.O. Chief in the 1930s to discuss Chakras and their effect, and he brought them into the periphery of the Golden Dawn teachings through their alchemical links. The Alchemical teachings here concentrate on the spiritual aspect of the work, Book M', the Philosophical Mercury of the Rosicrucian manifestos. This book is a must for all those studying the Golden Dawn, its roots, its history and its teachings." --Pat Zalewski, author of the highly acclaimed The Magical Tarot of the Golden Dawn'.

Book Synopsis Golden Dawn Rituals and Commentaries by : Pat Zalewski
Download or read book Golden Dawn Rituals and Commentaries written by Pat Zalewski and published by . This book was released on 2022-05-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While being the touchstone for Western Mystery Tradition magic, the Golden Dawn system has been largely shrouded in secrecy. While versions of its rituals have been published, these have been hacked and valuable material missing. Most importantly, the valuable information about how to work these rituals is largely unpublished. This has created a ridiculous situation where many self-appointed Golden Dawn experts have no idea how to work the important initiation rituals or even understand how they are supposed to work. Fortunately, the Golden Dawn Tradition has managed to preserve its secret teaching through the work of those who were members of its last surviving temple in New Zealand - Whare Ra. Although that temple shut in the late 1970s. some of its senior adepts were able to pass on this secret teaching to a new generation. One of these was Pat Zalewski who has adapted and developed the work of Whare Ra Hierophant Jack Taylor, who was a model Golden Dawn adept and his mentor. This expanded Third Edition Golden Dawn Rituals and Commentaries provides those seeking the magical truth behind the Golden Dawn with the information they need. Not only do they have the full unedited rituals and diagrams, but also the magical mechanics of how to work them correctly. This edition is the first to contain the complete rituals from 0=) to 7=$, commentaries on the Equinox and Consecration of the Vault rituals and the instruction and experiences of those who have been working them through the 20th to the 21st century.
Book Synopsis Religion and Anthropology by : Brian Morris
Download or read book Religion and Anthropology written by Brian Morris and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important textbook provides a critical introduction to the social anthropology of religion, focusing on more recent classical ethnographies. Comprehensive, free of scholastic jargon, engaging, and comparative in approach, it covers all the major religious traditions that have been studied concretely by anthropologists - Shamanism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity and its relation to African and Melanesian religions and contemporary Neopaganism. Eschewing a thematic approach and treating religion as a social institution and not simply as an ideology or symbolic system, the book follows the dual heritage of social anthropology in combining an interpretative understanding and sociological analysis. The book will appeal to all students of anthropology, whether established scholars or initiates to the discipline, as well as to students of the social sciences and religious studies, and for all those interested in comparative religion.
