Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book consists of XI Parts and 28 Chapters covering all areas of mathematics. It is a tool for students, scientists, engineers, students of many disciplines, teachers, professionals, writers and also for a general reader with an interest in mathematics and in science. It provides a wide range of mathematical concepts, definitions, propositions, theorems, proofs, examples, and numerous illustrations. The difficulty level can vary depending on chapters, and sustained attention will be required for some. The structure and list of Parts are quite classical: I. Foundations of Mathematics, II. Algebra, III. Number Theory, IV. Geometry, V. Analytic Geometry, VI. Topology, VII .Algebraic Topology, VIII. Analysis, IX. Category Theory, X. Probability and Statistics, XI. Applied Mathematics. Appendices provide useful lists of symbols and tables for ready reference. The publisher’s hope is that this book, slightly revised and in a convenient format, will serve the needs of readers, be it for study, teaching, exploration, work, or research.

This book was released on 2005-11-02 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of papers forming this volume is intended to provide a deeper study of some mathematical and physical subjects which are at the core of recent developments in the natural and living sciences. The book explores some far-reaching interfaces where mathematics, theoretical physics, and natural sciences seem to interact profoundly. The main goal is to show that an accomplished movement of geometrisation has enabled the discovery of a great variety of amazing structures and behaviors in physical reality and in living matter. The diverse group of expert mathematicians, physicists and natural scientists present numerous new results and original ideas, methods and techniques. Both academic and interdisciplinary, the book investigates a number of important connections between mathematics, theoretical physics and natural sciences including biology.

Book excerpt: Nicholas of Cusa (1401 64), doctor of canon law, church politician and philosopher, was one of the most important thinkers of 15th century Europe. This year marks the sixth centenary of his birth. Scholars from round the globe gathered in Tokyo for the 19th Cusanus Congress last year; this volume makes their contributions more widely available. Major themes examined include tradition and innovation, religion, the relevance of Nicholas of Cusa's thought for today, the relationship between East and West in his thought, and the development of his thought and scholarship as we enter a new millennium. This book was released on 2013-01-21 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Opinions differ: for some, complexity holds the key to a deeper and fuller understanding of the world; to others, it is merely a modern version of the philsophers' stone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the famous philosophical correspondence between the German polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, writing in the final months of his life, and the English philosopher and cleric Samuel Clarke, as well as the correspondence between Leibniz and Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach, future Princess of Wales and Queen Consort of England, who played a significant role in the correspondence as both mediator of, and commentator on, the exchanges been Leibniz and Clarke. It provides a complete reproduction of Samuel Clarke's 1717 edition of his correspondence with Leibniz, as well as original language texts (in French and Latin) and English translations of the extant correspondence between Leibniz and Caroline from 1714 to 1716, as well as many of the letters exchanged between Leibniz and various correspondents during the period of the correspondence with Clarke. Many of the original language documents are here published and translated into English for the first time. Gregory Brown's introduction places the letters in historical and personal context. The first part discusses the correspondence and developing relationship between Caroline and Leibniz. This encompasses a period immediately leading up to the ascension of Caroline's father-in-law, Georg Ludwig, Elector of Braunschweig-Lüneburg (Hanover), to the throne of England as George I following the death of Queen Anne, as well as Caroline's ascension to the position of Princess of Wales and subsequent relocation to England, Leibniz's correspondence with Clarke, mediated by Caroline, and Leibniz's death in 1716. The second part of the introduction discusses the main themes of the correspondence between Leibniz and Clarke and highlights the importance and influence of Caroline in her role as mediator of the correspondence.
