Book Synopsis Basic Principles of Power Electronics by : Klemens Heumann
Download or read book Basic Principles of Power Electronics written by Klemens Heumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power electronics became an identifiably separate area of electrical engineering with the invention of the thyristor about 30 years ago. The growing demand for controllability and conversion of electric energy has made this area increasingly important, which in turn has resulted in new device, circuit and control developments. In particular, new components, such as the GTO and power MOSFET, continue to extend power electronic technology to new applications. The technology embodied by the name "power electronics" is complex. It consists of both power level and signal level electronics, as well as thermal, mechanical, control, and protection systems. The power circuit, that part of the system actually processing energy, can be thought of as an amplifier around which is placed a closed loop control system. The goal of this book is to provide an easily understood exposition of the principles of power electronics. Common features of systems and their behavior are identified in order to facilitate understanding. Thyristor converters are distinguished and treated according to their mode of commutation. Circuits for various converters and their controls are presented, along with a description of ancillary circuits such as those required for snubbing and gate drives. Thermal and electrical properties of semiconductor power devices are discussed. The line-converter and converter-load interfaces are examined, leading to some general statements being made about energy transfer. Application areas are identified and categorized with respect to power and frequency ranges. The many tables presented in the book provide an easily used reference source.

Book Synopsis Walking and Mapping by : Karen O'Rourke
Download or read book Walking and Mapping written by Karen O'Rourke and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of walking and mapping as both form and content in art projects using old and new technologies, shoe leather and GPS. From Guy Debord in the early 1950s to Richard Long, Janet Cardiff, and Esther Polak more recently, contemporary artists have returned again and again to the walking motif. Today, the convergence of global networks, online databases, and new tools for mobile mapping coincides with a resurgence of interest in walking as an art form. In Walking and Mapping, Karen O'Rourke explores a series of walking/mapping projects by contemporary artists. She offers close readings of these projects—many of which she was able to experience firsthand—and situates them in relation to landmark works from the past half-century. Together, they form a new entity, a dynamic whole greater than the sum of its parts. By alternating close study of selected projects with a broader view of their place in a bigger picture, Walking and Mapping itself maps a complex phenomenon.
Book Synopsis Elementary Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems by : William F. Trench
Download or read book Elementary Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems written by William F. Trench and published by Thomson Brooks/Cole. This book was released on 2001 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in a clear and accurate language that students can understand, Trench's new book minimizes the number of explicitly stated theorems and definitions. Instead, he deals with concepts in a conversational style that engages students. He includes more than 250 illustrated, worked examples for easy reading and comprehension. One of the book's many strengths is its problems, which are of consistently high quality. Trench includes a thorough treatment of boundary-value problems and partial differential equations and has organized the book to allow instructors to select the level of technology desired. This has been simplified by using symbols, C and L, to designate the level of technology. C problems call for computations and/or graphics, while L problems are laboratory exercises that require extensive use of technology. Informal advice on the use of technology is included in several sections and instructors who prefer not to emphasize technology can ignore these exercises without interrupting the flow of material.
