Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling for System Analysis in Agricultural Research by : K. Vohnout
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling for System Analysis in Agricultural Research written by K. Vohnout and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-27 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear picture of the use of applied mathematics as a tool for improving the accuracy of agricultural research. For decades, statistics has been regarded as the fundamental tool of the scientific method. With new breakthroughs in computers and computer software, it has become feasible and necessary to improve the traditional approach in agricultural research by including additional mathematical modeling procedures. The difficulty with the use of mathematics for agricultural scientists is that most courses in applied mathematics have been designed for engineering students. This publication is written by a professional in animal science targeting professionals in the biological, namely agricultural and animal scientists and graduate students in agricultural and animal sciences. The only prerequisite for the reader to understand the topics of this book is an introduction to college algebra, calculus and statistics. This is a manual of procedures for the mathematical modeling of agricultural systems and for the design and analyses of experimental data and experimental tests. It is a step-by-step guide for mathematical modeling of agricultural systems, starting with the statement of the research problem and up to implementing the project and running system experiments.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Mathematical Modeling of Crop Growth by : Christopher B. S. Teh
Download or read book Introduction to Mathematical Modeling of Crop Growth written by Christopher B. S. Teh and published by Dissertation.com. This book was released on 2006 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning mathematical modeling need not be difficult. Unlike other books, this book not only lists the equations one-by-one, but explains in detail how they are each derived, used, and finally assembled into a computer program for model simulations. This book shows how mathematics is applied in agriculture, in particular to modeling the growth and yield of a generic crop. Topics covered are agriculture meteorology, solar radiation interception and absorption, evapotranspiration, energy and soil water balance, soil water flow, photosynthesis, respiration, and crop growth development. Rather than covering many modeling approaches but in superficial detail, this book selects one or two widely-used modeling approaches and discusses about them in depth. Principles learned from this book equips readers when they encounter other modeling approaches or when they develop their own crop models.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling in Experimental Nutrition: Vitamins, Proteins, Methods by :
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling in Experimental Nutrition: Vitamins, Proteins, Methods written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1996-12-02 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book developed from a series of conferences to facilitate the application of mathematical modeling to experimental nutrition. As nutrition science moves from prevention of gross deficiencies to identifying requirements for optimum long term health, more sophisticated methods of nutritional assessment will be needed. Collection and evaluation of kinetic data may be one such method. This books opens with chapters giving specific examples of the application of modeling techniques to vitamin A, carotenoids, folate, vitamin b-6, glycogen phosphorylase, transthyretin, amino acids, and energy metabolism. Obtaining kinetic data on internal processes is a major challenge; therefore, the text includes chapters on the use of microdialysis and ultrafiltration, use of membrane vesicles, and culture of mammary tissue. Many of the authors use the Simulation, Analysis and Modeling program which allows compartmental models to be described without specifying the required differential equations. The final sections of the book, however, present some more mathematical descriptions of physiological processes, including bioperiodicity, metabolic control, and membrane transport; discussions of some computational aspects of modeling such as parameter distributions, linear integrators and identifiability; and alternative mathematical approaches such as neural networks and graph theory. Specific, detailed examples of applications of modeling to vitamins, proteins, amino acids, and energy metabolism Novel methods for collecting kinetic data--microdialysis, ultrafiltration, membrane vesicles, and the culture of mammary tissue Mathematical treatment of complex metabolic processes including bioperiodicity, metabolic control, and membrane transport Computational approaches to distribution of kinetic parameters, evaluation of linear integrators, and identifiability Alternative mathematical approaches--neural networks and graph theory Detailed descriptions of the application of modeling to a variety of nutrients

Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling in Experimental Nutrition by : Andrew J. Clifford
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling in Experimental Nutrition written by Andrew J. Clifford and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nutrients have been recognized as essential for maximum growth, successful reproduction, and infection prevention since the 1940s; since that time, the lion's share of nutrient research has focused on defining their role in these processes. Around 1990, however, a major shift began in the way that researchers viewed some nutrients particularly the vitamins. This shift was motivated by the discovery that modest declines in vitamin nutritional status are associated with an increased risk of ill-health and disease (such as neural tube defects, heart disease, and cancer), especially in those populations or individuals who are genetically predisposed. In an effort to expand upon this new understanding of nutrient action, nutritionists are increasingly turning their focus to the mathematical modeling of nutrient kinetic data. The availability of suitably-tagged (isotope) nutrients (such as B-carotene, vitamin A, folate, among others), sensitive analytical methods to trace them in humans (mass spectrometry and accelerator mass spectrometry), and powerful software (capable of solving and manipulating differential equations efficiently and accurately), has allowed researchers to construct mathematical models aimed at characterizing the dynamic and kinetic behavior of key nutrients in vivo in humans at an unparalleled level of detail.

Book Synopsis Advances in Modeling Agricultural Systems by : Petraq Papajorgji
Download or read book Advances in Modeling Agricultural Systems written by Petraq Papajorgji and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-28 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture has experienced a dramatic change during the past decades. The change has been structural and technological. Structural changes can be seen in the size of current farms; not long ago, agricultural production was organized around small farms, whereas nowadays the agricultural landscape is dominated by large farms. Large farms have better means of applying new technologies, and therefore technological advances have been a driving force in changing the farming structure. New technologies continue to emerge, and their mastery and use in requires that farmers gather more information and make more complex technological choices. In particular, the advent of the Internet has opened vast opportunities for communication and business opportunities within the agricultural com- nity. But at the same time, it has created another class of complex issues that need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Farmers and agricultural researchers are faced with an overwhelming amount of information they need to analyze and synthesize to successfully manage all the facets of agricultural production. This daunting challenge requires new and complex approaches to farm management. A new type of agricultural management system requires active cooperation among multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams and ref- ing of existing and creation of new analytical theories with potential use in agriculture. Therefore, new management agricultural systems must combine the newest achievements in many scientific domains such as agronomy, economics, mathematics, and computer science, to name a few.
