Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Color Your Math offers a fun way for kids ages 3 to 6 develop their intuition about numbers while showing parents essential early number concepts. Using fun to color images of animals, cupcakes, cookies and clowns, this elementary math coach created book is as sophisticated as it is silly. It is designed to appeal to boys and girls and includes dogs, cats, cars, robots and ice cream cones. More than a workbook, this book has large images and subtly shows many ways of thinking about numbers. Parents can support their young children by reading the simple question on the left page and listening to the response. More than simple counting, this book shows how to use counters to represent numbers and challenges preschoolers, kindergarteners and first graders to consider, "How many are missing?" which is the number one struggle in early numeracy development. This book has a variety of different images to appeal to boys and girls. The math is subtle and I do hope it inspires parents to replicate some of these ideas while playing with their children. These are also a fabulous center activity in the preschool and kindergarten classroom and are still worthwhile for first graders. First grade teachers know the importance of early number sense and hiding games and part whole models give that a huge boost! How to use this book: Math suggestions are included on the left page for each coloring page. We begin with "cardinality and correspondence". Children can count the items and write the numeral in the speech bubble. Ask them to draw the same number of counters or colored circles in the "5 Frame" as shown in the first image. You can begin by tracing mine. Research shows we do not spend enough time developing solid understanding of numbers nested within 5 (ALL the ways of making 5 and 4 and 3 and 2 and 1 and 0.) While the math is optional, there are ideas for telling math stories, estimating and playing Which One Doesn't Belong? While it is essential to continue counting higher and higher, we must count actual items more than simply saying the numbers. Children need a solid sense about 0-5 in order to build deeper understanding within 10. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The journal aequationes mathematicae publishes papers in pure and applied mathematics and, in particular, articles on functional equations, combinatorics and dynamical systems. Its 50th volume appears in 1995. To mark this occasion, we are publishing in book form a repre sentative collection of outstanding survey papers assembled for our anniversary issue of aequationes mathematicae. The articles by Quackenbush, Targonski and Moszner discuss composition of functions from different points of view: universal algebra, dynamical systems (iteration) and functional equa tions. The Ono-Robbins-Wahl and the Vince papers, on number theory and tiles, respectively, are thematically linked by lattices. Combinatorics, in turn, links the Vince paper with that of Tutte, whose subject is chromatic sums, its tools differential and functional equations. The Paganoni-Ratz and the Forti papers deal with conditional functional equations and with the related topic of stability. Applications to the social and behavioral sciences, in particular to aggregation (and some theory) are presented in the paper by J. Aczel. The aim of the collection is to survey selected fields of current interest. We trust that it will be useful and informative for researchers, teachers, graduate and advanced undergraduate stu dents of mathematics, and for those interested in applications in related fields. lanDs Aczel Aequationes Mathematicae 50 (1995) 1 0001-9054/95/020001-01 $1.50 + 0.20/0 University of Waterloo © 1995 Birkhiiuser Verlag, Basel Editorial Volume 50 of Aequationes Mathematicae This is the fiftieth volume of aequationes mathematicae. This book was released on 2005 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More and more teachers of young children are being asked to develop their curriculum according to standards. This essential resource will guide educators as they grapple with a plethora of issues, questions, and practices surrounding the use of standards in the early childhood classroom. Carol Seefeldt, well-known educator and bestselling author, offers teachers an overview of the standards movement; describes the status of standards in early education; presents the issues around the design and selection of standards; and provides practical strategies for effectively implementing standards with young children (preschool through the early primary grades). This book provides both the background knowledge and a working understanding of standards to help teachers: successfully judge and select standards; design appropriate ways of using and working with standards; and develop appropriate assessment strategies. Illustrated with children's work, this "how-to" guide: provides practical illustrations of how standards can be used to benefit early childhood classrooms, including many sample activities; demonstrates how to work with standards in the separate subject areas of the sciences, arts, language and literacy, mathematics, and social studies; offers ideas for including all children, such as those with special needs and those just learning English; and describes a project, Children Study Their Play Yard, illustrating how thematic, standards-based, problem-solving learning can be integrated into the total curriculum.
