Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant progress in the science and technology of the mechanical behaviour of materials has been made in recent years. The greatest strides forward have occurred in the field of advanced materials with high performance, such as ceramics, composite materials, and intermetallic compounds. The Sixth International Conference on Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM-6), taking place in Kyoto, Japan, 29 July - 2 August 1991 addressed these issues. In commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Japan Society of Materials Science, organised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Science and supported by the Science Council of Japan, the information provided in these proceedings reflects the international nature of the meeting. It provides a valuable account of recent developments and problems in the field of mechanical behaviour of materials.
Book Synopsis Strength Design in Aluminum by : Mousa Tabatabai Gargari
Download or read book Strength Design in Aluminum written by Mousa Tabatabai Gargari and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared by the Task Committee on Strength Design in Aluminum of the Committee on Special Structures of the Committee on Metals of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. This report compares the Canadian, European, and U.S. codes on aluminum in order to provide a basis for the preparation of a common specification document. The three codes are: CSA S157-03, Strength Design in Aluminum (2003, CSA); Eurocode 9, Design of Aluminum Alloy Structures (EC9); Specification of Aluminum Structures: Load and Resistance Factor Design, 2nd ed.(2000, Aluminum Association) Frequently using a tabular format, this report compares how the three codes treat symbols, design principles, material principles, resistance limited by yield or rupture, buckling, and connections. By stripping the load and resistance factors from the design expressions, this book is able to compare the essential rules of engineering on which the codes are based and to compare the positions taken by three different code writing committees. The results contributes to a common specification document by signaling the areas of agreement and, more importantly, the areas of disagreement. This book is a valuable resource for structural engineers working with aluminum, especially in Canada, Europe, or the United States.

Book Synopsis Investigation of Structure, Properties and Deformation Mechanisms of Elevated Temperature Al Alloys with High Specific Properties by :
Download or read book Investigation of Structure, Properties and Deformation Mechanisms of Elevated Temperature Al Alloys with High Specific Properties written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present project was devoted to the investigation of structure and mechanical properties of high-strength aluminum alloys especially alloys for elevated temperatures. High-strength aluminum alloys can have strengths approximately 50 times higher than the strength of unalloyed aluminum. Such a strong increase of the alloy strength is a unique case in the science of metallic materials and is a consequence of a tremendous number of theoretical and experimental works. For this reason a further increase of the level of mechanical properties of aluminum alloys is possible using new ideas and technologies. Just this approach was used for all six tasks of the present project. Investigation of mechanical properties was carried out by tension and bending test in various temperature ranges. Structural investigation were performed by X-ray diffraction technique TEM, SEM, OM, DSC analysis and by local X-ray spectral analysis. Correlation of processing chemical composition structure and mechanical properties was investigated for obtained high-strength aluminum alloys. The mechanisms of alloy deformation and fracture in most strong condition were revealed.
Book Synopsis Parametric Analyses of High-temperature Data for Aluminum Alloys by : John Gilbert Kaufman
Download or read book Parametric Analyses of High-temperature Data for Aluminum Alloys written by John Gilbert Kaufman and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2008 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the objective of this book to describe the potential usefulness of parametric analyses in analyzing and extrapolating the properties of aluminum alloys at high temperatures. It is also the intent to illustrate the use of such methods by presenting a broad spectrum of high-temperature creep data for aluminum alloys generated from a single source and developed using consistent testing procedures and practices.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Structural Life Assessment by : Raouf A. Ibrahim
Download or read book Handbook of Structural Life Assessment written by Raouf A. Ibrahim and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 1016 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important, self-contained reference deals with structural life assessment (SLA) and structural health monitoring (SHM) in a combined form. SLA periodically evaluates the state and condition of a structural system and provides recommendations for possible maintenance actions or the end of structural service life. It is a diversified field and relies on the theories of fracture mechanics, fatigue damage process, and reliability theory. For common structures, their life assessment is not only governed by the theory of fracture mechanics and fatigue damage process, but by other factors such as corrosion, grounding, and sudden collision. On the other hand, SHM deals with the detection, prediction, and location of crack development online. Both SLA and SHM are combined in a unified and coherent treatment.

Book Synopsis Properties of Aluminum Alloys by : John Gilbert Kaufman
Download or read book Properties of Aluminum Alloys written by John Gilbert Kaufman and published by ASM International. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compilation of data collected and maintained for many years as the property of a large aluminum company, which decided in 1997 to make it available to other engineers and materials specialists. In tabular form, presents data on the tensile and creep properties of eight species of wrought alloys and five species of cast alloys in the various shapes used in applications. Then looks at the fatigue data for several alloys under a range of conditions and loads. The data represent the typical or average findings, and though some were developed years ago, the collection is the largest and most detailed available. There is no index.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of the Engineering Properties of a Commercially Produced Aluminum Alloy 2020-T651 Plate by : R. C. Malcolm
Download or read book Evaluation of the Engineering Properties of a Commercially Produced Aluminum Alloy 2020-T651 Plate written by R. C. Malcolm and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Al-Cu-Li alloy 2020 was developed in the 1950's to help satisfy the need for high strength and high modulus of elasticity in an aircraft structural material. The fracture toughness of alloy 2020 is comparatively low compared to other aerospace alloys. This characteristic coupled with manufacturing difficulty eventually led to the withdrawal of alloy 2020 for use in commercial products. Despite this setback, Aluminum alloys containing lithium remain attractive for aircraft applications because in addition to high strength and high elastic modulus, they possess low density and the potential for higher resistance to fatigue. Consequently, current research has been directed toward increasing fracture toughness of Al-Li type alloys into a range acceptable for aircraft use. This report summarizes tensile, fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth properties obtained from a commercially produced lot of aluminum alloy 2020-T651 plate. This characterization is intended to serve as a baseline for alloy development work directed at improving damage tolerant characteristics of Al-Li type alloys. The fracture toughness characterization includes plane-strain fracture toughness (KIc) values, crack growth resistance (R) curves, as well as results from fracture toughness indicator tests; namely, the Kahn-type tear test and the slow bend precrack charpy test. Obtained fatigue crack growth rates traverse the entire range from near-threshold values to the exceedingly high rates encountered as delta K values approach the material toughness. Metallographic characterization of alloy 2020-T651 in addition to fractographic results from a fatigue crack growth test specimen are also included in this report.
