Book Synopsis A Companion to the Spanish Renaissance by : Hilaire Kallendorf
Download or read book A Companion to the Spanish Renaissance written by Hilaire Kallendorf and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Companion to the Spanish Renaissance makes a renewed case for the inclusion of Spain within broader European Renaissance movements. Its introduction, “A Renaissance for the ‘Spanish Renaissance’?” will be sure to incite polemic across a broad spectrum of academic fields. This interdisciplinary volume combines micro- with macro-history to offer a snapshot of the best new work being done in this area. With essays on politics and government, family and daily life, religion, nobles and court culture, birth and death, intellectual currents, ethnic groups, the plastic arts, literature, popular culture, law courts, women, literacy, libraries, civic ritual, illness, money, notions of community, philosophy and law, science, colonial empire, and historiography, it offers breath-taking scope without sacrificing attention to detail. Destined to become the standard go-to resource for non-specialists, this book also contains an extensive bibliography aimed at the serious researcher. Book Synopsis Cervantes y la crítica by : Amenodoro Urdaneta
Download or read book Cervantes y la crítica written by Amenodoro Urdaneta and published by Linkgua. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Signs of Power in Habsburg Spain and the New World by : Jason McCloskey
Download or read book Signs of Power in Habsburg Spain and the New World written by Jason McCloskey and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2013-03-22 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signs of Power in Habsburg Spain and the New World explores the representation of political, economic, military, religious, and juridical power in texts and artifacts from early modern Spain and her American viceroyalties. In addition to analyzing the dynamics of power in written texts, chapters also examine pieces of material culture including coats of arms, coins, paintings and engravings. As the essays demonstrate, many of these objects work to transform the amorphous concept of power into a material reality with considerable symbolic dimensions subject to, and dependent on, interpretation. With its broad approach to the discourses of power, Signs of Power brings together studies of both canonical literary works as well as more obscure texts and objects. The position of the works studied with respect to the official center of power also varies. Whereas certain essays focus on the ways in which portrayals of power champion the aspirations of the Spanish Crown, other essays attend to voices of dissent that effectively call into question that authority.

Book Synopsis Sins of the Fathers by : Hilaire Kallendorf
Download or read book Sins of the Fathers written by Hilaire Kallendorf and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2013-12-06 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sins of the Fathers considers sins as nodes of cultural anxiety and explores the tensions between competing organizational categories for moral thought and behaviours, namely the Seven Deadly Sins and the Ten Commandments. Hilaire Kallendorf explores the decline and rise of these organizational categories against critical transformations of the early modern period, such as the accession of Spain to a position of world dominance and the arrival of a new courtly culture to replace an old warrior ethos. This ground-breaking study is the first to consider Spanish Golden Age comedias as an archive of moral knowledge. Kallendorf has examined over 800 of these plays to illustrate how they provide insight into aspects of early modern experience such as food, sex, work, and money. Finally, Kallendorf engages the theoretical terminology of Marxist literary criticism to demonstrate the inherent ambiguity of cultural change.

Book Synopsis Ensayos sobre crítica literaria by : Antonio Alatorre
Download or read book Ensayos sobre crítica literaria written by Antonio Alatorre and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2013-08-24 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Sustainable by Design by : Stuart Walker
Download or read book Sustainable by Design written by Stuart Walker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To advance the subject of design one has to engage in the activity of designing. Sustainable by Design offers a compelling and innovative, design-centred approach that explores both the meaning and practice of sustainable design. Walker explores the design process in the context of sustainability, and challenges conventional ways of defining, designing and producing functional objects. He discusses the personal design process, tacit knowledge, ephemeral design, experimental design, and the relationship between intellectual design criteria, physical expression and aesthetic experience. This book will introduce vital concepts to students and will inspire designers by providing a well-articulated basis for understanding the complexity and potential of sustainable design, and extolling the contribution of design to the creation of a more meaningful material culture.
