Book excerpt: A procedure is described fordetermining whether two fingerprint impressions were made by the same finger. The procedure uses the X and Y coordinates and the individual directions of the minutiae (ridge endings and bifurcations). The identity of two impressions is established by matching a constellation or group of minutiae in one impression with a corresponding constellation in the other impression in terms of the relative distances and relative angles of the minutiae. Book Synopsis Segmentation and Separation of Overlapped Latent Fingerprints by : Branka Stojanović
Download or read book Segmentation and Separation of Overlapped Latent Fingerprints written by Branka Stojanović and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Springerbrief presents an overview of problems and technologies behind segmentation and separation of overlapped latent fingerprints, which are two fundamental steps in the context of fingerprint matching systems. It addresses five main aspects: (1) the need for overlapped latent fingerprint segmentation and separation in the context of fingerprint verification systems; (2) the different datasets available for research on overlapped latent fingerprints; (3) selected algorithms and techniques for segmentation of overlapped latent fingerprints; (4) selected algorithms and techniques for separation of overlapped latent fingerprints; and (5) the use of deep learning techniques for segmentation and separation of overlapped latent fingerprints. By offering a structured overview of the most important approaches currently available, putting them in perspective, and suggesting numerous resources for further exploration, this book gives its readers a clear path for learning new topics and engaging in related research. Written from a technical perspective, and yet using language and terminology accessible to non-experts, it describes the technologies, introduces relevant datasets, highlights the most important research results in each area, and outlines the most challenging open research questions. This Springerbrief targets researchers, professionals and advanced-level students studying and working in computer science, who are interested in the field of fingerprint matching and biometrics. Readers who want to deepen their understanding of specific topics will find more than one hundred references to additional sources of related information.

Book Synopsis Digital Fingerprinting by : Cliff Wang
Download or read book Digital Fingerprinting written by Cliff Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book on digital fingerprinting that comprehensively covers the major areas of study in a range of information security areas including authentication schemes, intrusion detection, forensic analysis and more. Available techniques for assurance are limited and authentication schemes are potentially vulnerable to the theft of digital tokens or secrets. Intrusion detection can be thwarted by spoofing or impersonating devices, and forensic analysis is incapable of demonstrably tying a particular device to specific digital evidence. This book presents an innovative and effective approach that addresses these concerns. This book introduces the origins and scientific underpinnings of digital fingerprinting. It also proposes a unified framework for digital fingerprinting, evaluates methodologies and includes examples and case studies. The last chapter of this book covers the future directions of digital fingerprinting. This book is designed for practitioners and researchers working in the security field and military. Advanced-level students focused on computer science and engineering will find this book beneficial as secondary textbook or reference.

Book Synopsis Fingerprint Matching Through Feature Extraction and Matrix Equalization by : Md. Shahadat Hossain
Download or read book Fingerprint Matching Through Feature Extraction and Matrix Equalization written by Md. Shahadat Hossain and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, Khulna University, course: Mathematics, language: English, abstract: Minutiae based feature extraction methods are used for fingerprint matching. This method is mainly depending on the characteristics of minutiae of the individuals. The minutiae are ridge endings or bifurcations on the fingerprints. Their coordinates and direction are most distinctive features to represent the fingerprint. Most fingerprint matching systems store only the minutiae template in the database for further usage. The conventional methods to utilize minutiae information are treating it as a point set and finding the matched points from different minutiae sets. This kind of minutiae-based fingerprint recognition/matching systems consists of two steps: minutiae extraction and minutiae matching. Image enhancement, histogram equalization, thinning, binarization, smoothing, block direction estimation, image segmantation, ROI extraction etc. are discussed in the minutiae extraction step. After the extraction of minutiae the false minutiae are removed from the extraction to get the accurate result. In the minutiae matching process, the minutiae features of a given fingerprint are compared with the minutiae template and the matched minutiae will be found out. The final template used for fingerprint matching is further utilized in the matching stage to enhance the system’s performance. Two fingerprint images always give two different matrices, the matrix equalization method is also used for matching two fingerprint images after the final template.

Book Synopsis The Fingerprint by : U. S. Department Justice
Download or read book The Fingerprint written by U. S. Department Justice and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-08-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of The Fingerprint Sourcebook originated during a meeting in April 2002. Individuals representing the fingerprint, academic, and scientific communities met in Chicago, Illinois, for a day and a half to discuss the state of fingerprint identification with a view toward the challenges raised by Daubert issues. The meeting was a joint project between the International Association for Identification (IAI) and West Virginia University (WVU). One recommendation that came out of that meeting was a suggestion to create a sourcebook for friction ridge examiners, that is, a single source of researched information regarding the subject. This sourcebook would provide educational, training, and research information for the international scientific community.
