Book excerpt: During the summer of 2007, a Master Pattern Index Project was organized by LABAC participants to create an index of pictured and identified Brilliant Period cut glass patterns gathered from many of the published cut glass resources. Early coverage aspirations were extensive and expanded as work progressed. Team members included Lynda Carrigan, Cindy and Price Chandler, Rich Encelewski, and Judy Northup. Ellaine Wilson and Wilbur Bluhm also joined the group during the work. Committee members have expended countless hours of volunteer work to compile data and publish this Master Index. Rob Smith compiled several of the included indices and has been our consultant during the MI effort; he's also been involved in the quality review of our work. Culminating four years of concentrated work, LABAC has published a hardbound set of three Master Index books. The set contains the Master Index and its supporting tables, numerous pattern example illustrations, and a search-able DVD containing MI data formatted to accommodate several different computing platforms and tools. We recommend reading the entire Introduction and becoming familiar with the associated introductory tables before utilizing the printed or digital versions of the Master Index.While the original manufacturers' catalogs continue to be the best source of accurate identification for named or numbered patterns, the Master Index accumulation of information from many resources presents an excellent opportunity for owners of cut glass to find references to their pieces. The Master Index Committee hopes that our cut glass friends will find this Master Pattern Index useful in pattern identification and research.
