Book excerpt: The world's deserts are sufficiently large that, in theory, covering a fraction of their landmass with PV systems could generate many times the current primary global energy supply. Moreover, the energy produced is from solar radiation -- a clean and renewable source -- hence such systems would have the potential to contribute massively to the protection of the global environment. Energy from the Desert is an extensive and high-level international study, representing the accumulated research of the world experts involved in Task VIII of the IEA PVPS Programme. To date, the market focus for photovoltaics has been on small to medium, stand-alone or building-integrated power systems, which have proven, but as yet not realized, the great potential of this technology. This definitive study evaluates the feasibility, potential and global benefits of very large scale photovoltaic power generation (VLS-PV) systems deployed in desert areas and each generating from 10MW to several gigawatts.

Book excerpt: Solar Trillions reveals market opportunities worth $35+ trillion of the $382 Trillion we'll spend in energy by 2050. The author shows why solar is the only clean energy source that can scale and why disruptive tech make it inevitable. Here are the seven amazing opportunities. 1: Desert Power: $9 trillion To provide all of America's electricity today, we would need just 100-by-100-mile square of desert. 2: Powering Industry: $7.1 trillion 24/7 solar power is here-and can reliably run factories & industry. 3. Island/Village Power: $2.6 trillion Two billion people around the world pay up to 10 times today's PV cost. 4: Power to the People: $8.7 trillion With Solar BIPV, walls, windows, and bricks will make money for building owners. 5: Bottled Electricity: $1.5 trillion We will hit peak water before we hit peak oil. 6: Energy in a Box: $5 trillion The race for electricity batteries is on. Solar thermal is ahead. 7: Internet Times Ten: $6.5 trillion The eBay of electricity is coming.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first and probably the only book devoted to utility-scale solar power – perhaps the fastest-growing sector of the global energy market. Philip Wolfe’s book describes the development and operation of large-scale solar power stations, and will interest all those who want to understand how these multi-million dollar projects are designed, structured, financed, constructed and maintained. It contains case studies of the Waldpolenz Energy Park, Germany, Lopburi Solar Plant in Thailand and the Topaz Solar Farm in California. Also included are interviews from leading figures in the PV industry. It shows the state of the world market and links to an online resource that continues to track the explosive growth of the sector. The book is arranged in three sections: A description of solar projects in context, and how they are undertaken. Chapters on developing and structuring projects; siting, consenting and connection issues; building and operating solar plants; design and technology basics; economies of solar photovoltaics. The second section reviews individual aspects of the project development and operational process in more detail. In particular it advises on strategies to manage technology, commercial, regulatory and implementation risks. These are supported by a comprehensive reference section, including case studies and overviews of key parameters applicable in different parts of the world. Supported by figures and photographs, this book is for anyone wanting to master the commercial, professional, financial, engineering or political aspects of developing multi-mega-watt solar PV projects in a mainstream power market. It is a ‘user manual’ to accompany a sector which by 2015 had surpassed a value of $100 billion.

Book excerpt: This book aims to analyze how China's firms in the consumer electronics (CE) sector have developed their business strategy and corporate governance during the reform process. This book examines the CE sector in particular because it is one of the country's most important and dynamic manufacturing sectors and one of the earliest market-oriented sectors. - focuses on firms with different ownership - provides cases that offer insights into the interactions among key factors of environmental changes, exploitative and explorative strategies, and performance in a transition environment - explains why the strategies of some firms do not fit with their environments, which leads to their poorer competitive position. - compares the corporate governance of the China's firms with different ownership - explores the different ways of development of China's firms in the consumer electronics sector from the perspectives of business strategy and corporate governance - includes some wider policy-related implications related to the reform of China's firms

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, University of applied sciences, Nürnberg, course: Strategic Management, language: English, abstract: There are big plans for renewables in future: Countries target to 100 % domestic energy demand to be produced by renewable energies. High investments in the branch are supposed to bring the desired targets. The world’s demand for energy is growing rapidly since intensified globalization results in global economic growth and welfare giving companies the incentive to conquer new markets. As more electricity is needed, its’ price is expected to rise worldwide that hampers economic growth. The world’s demand is calling for a global energy mix that adapts to our world’s changing economic and ecological conditions. Thus, providing and combining various independent new energy resources for sustainability with the outlook of reducing CO2 emissions in the long term and to assure and improve energy supply around the global. China is successful due to its’ competitive advantage of producing lowcost solar modules which has badly affected the EU photovoltaic market and its competing enterprises, but granted the country itself a strong position in the global photovoltaic market with their financial opportunity to expand easily. The implementation of tariff regulation and minimum prices to restrain imports for the protection of Europe’s domestic market forces China to rethink its’ strategies: China’s high government subsidies target for intensive investments in form of expansions to new territories. As subsidies may lead to overcapacities in the home country some solar companies are preparing for market entries in emerging countries eager surviving plans of PV companies in times of high competition and falling prices to increase sales volumes to prevent another insolvency in the sector. Combining South Africa’s potential and new business opportunities in highly competitive photovoltaic markets Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd could help to boost Wuxi Suntechs’ figures to be in black again.
