Book Synopsis Quantitative Fish Dynamics by : Terrance J. Quinn
Download or read book Quantitative Fish Dynamics written by Terrance J. Quinn and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999-03-25 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an advanced text on fisheries and fishery population dynamics and as a reference for fisheries scientists. It provides a thorough treatment of contemporary topics in quantitative fisheries science and emphasizes the link between biology and theory by explaining the assumptions inherent in the quantitative methods. The analytical methods are accessible to a wide range of biologists, and the book includes numerous examples. The book is unique in covering such advanced topics as optimal harvesting, migratory stocks, age-structured models, and size models.

Book Synopsis Re-evaluation of the 32-inch Commercial Size Limit by : William G. Clark
Download or read book Re-evaluation of the 32-inch Commercial Size Limit written by William G. Clark and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intrinsic growth parameters of female and male halibut, and the length-specific selectivity of the commercial setline fishery, were estimated by fitting a simple model to catch composition data collected in Areas 2B and 3A in 1990 and 1991. Area-specific schedules of female maturity as a function of length were estimated using data collected during the 1980s. Yield per recruit and spawning biomass per recruit of halibut in Area 2B and 3A were calculated using the new estimates of growth, selectivity, and maturity. The results showed the current 32-inch commercial size limit to be appropriate. (At time of publication in mid-1995, it is clear that halibut life history parameters have changed considerably since 1990. The size limit is therefore being reviewed again.).

Book Synopsis Mortality of Fish Escaping Trawl Gears by : Petri Suuronen
Download or read book Mortality of Fish Escaping Trawl Gears written by Petri Suuronen and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress has been made in reducing bycatch and discards through improving the selectivity of fishing gear. This publication examines the key factors affecting the stress, injury and mortality of fish arising from fishing processes, particularly when fish escape from trawl equipment. It seeks to identify improved methodological approaches and practices, and to consider the design of fishing gears and operations that reduce or eliminate such deaths, and to assess the problems associated with estimating the impact of unaccounted fish mortality.
