Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environments at Risk is designed as an introductory text and uses case histories of environmental impact assessment to raise issues important in controlling environmental problems. This approach is novel as is the concentration on assessment procedures. In his twenty years of involvement with such cases, Professor Ellis developed his own method of approach for auditing environmental impact assessments, a method which will help readers appraise similar cases in which they are involved, either as concerned citizen, environmental managers or assessors.

Download or read book Geochemical Assessment of Subaqueous Tailings Disposal in Buttle Lake, British Columbia written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limited evidence suggests that the chemical reactivity of tailings is in fact inhibited by storage underwater, and that such storage may be a preferred long-term disposal option. To assess the long-term environmental feasibility of subaqueous disposal of mine tailings, this report examines the waters and sediments of the south basin of Buttle Lake, B.C. (the site of an inactive submerged tailings deposit). The copper, zinc and lead-rich mine tailings were deposited in the lake via a submerged outfall from 1966-84. The tailings are widespread across the basin and are being covered by a thin veneer of natural sediments. The report presents a detailed study of the distributions of metals in both the solid phases and interstitial waters of the sediments, and in the overlying surface waters.
