Book excerpt: To begin, I gratefully acknowledge the support of Appris Editor for accepting the project for an E-Book, and of IAMCR – International Association for Media and Communication Research - for the Fund to Claudia Lambach, PhD, whose Post-Doctorate Project includes the organization of the E-Book and two Dossiers with FAMECOS Journal, plus two Workshops for IAMCR Conference 2023- LYON, France, online (June 26 to September 12) and face-to-face (July 9 to 13), one in Pre-Conference and another in Post-Conference. IAMCR Conference 2023 will be in LYON, France, online (June 26 to July 5) and face-to-face (July 9 to 13). On behalf of IAMCR VIC-Visual Culture Working Group- I, Denize Araujo, PhD, thank Thomas Wiedemann, PhD, Vice-Chair and Curator of VIC CineClub, who selected five French films open for discussion, and also Roger Odin, PhD, Guest of Honor of this session of VIC CineClub, who sent comments about the film Muriel (Resnais, 1963). The E-Book Cinema/Cinéma Français/Cine Francés is VIC ́s proposal as an homage to Lyon, birth of cinéma and site of IAMCR Conference 2023. Appris Editor is the publisher and the publication counts with an International Scientific Committee and texts by researchers from eight countries, in the three official IAMCR idioms: English, French and Spanish, including Roger Odin ́s comments about the film Muriel (Resnais, 1963). The dates for the two sessions of the Workshop with the E-book authors are June 3 and 10 and the launch of it will be in Lyon, during IAMCR 2023 Conference online, from July 9 to 13. Trying to develop a multilevel dialog among the texts, I selected them according to their specific related themes and created three clusters: "filmmakers and their works"; "comparative film analyses"; and "interchanges between two countries". Four authors are included in the first cluster for sharing the same themes, two of them for discussing corporality and two for their focus on cinéma history and silent movies. Two authors share the second cluster for developing comparative analyses and three authors belong to the third cluster presenting interchanges between two countries.
Book Synopsis Digital Information Ecosystems by : Dominique Augey
Download or read book Digital Information Ecosystems written by Dominique Augey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital information, particularly for online newsgathering and reporting, is an industry fraught with uncertainty and rapid innovation. Digital Information Ecosystems: Smart Press crosses academic knowledge with research by media groups to understand this evolution and analyze the future of the sector, including the imminent employment of bots and artificial intelligence. The book adopts an original and multidisciplinary approach to this topic: combining the science of media economics with the experience of a practicing journalist of a major daily newspaper. The result is an essential guide to the opportunities of the media to respond to a changing global digital landscape. Independent news reporting is vital in the contemporary democracy; the media must itself become a new “smart press”.

Download or read book Canadian Film and Video written by Loren R. Lerner and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 1862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extensive bibliography and reference guide is an invaluable resource for researchers, practitioners, students, and anyone with an interest in Canadian film and video. With over 24,500 entries, of which 10,500 are annotated, it opens up the literature devoted to Canadian film and video, at last making it readily accessible to scholars and researchers. Drawing on both English and French sources, it identifies books, catalogues, government reports, theses, and periodical and newspaper articles from Canadian and non-Canadian publications from the first decade of the twentieth century to 1989. The work is bilingual; descriptive annotations are presented in the language(s) of the original publication. Canadian Film and Video / Film et vidéo canadiens provides an in-depth guide to the work of over 4000 individuals working in film and video and 5000 films and videos. The entries in Volume I cover topics such as film types, the role of government, laws and legislation, censorship, festivals and awards, production and distribution companies, education, cinema buildings, women and film, and video art. A major section covers filmmakers, video artists, cinematographers, actors, producers, and various other film people. Volume II presents an author index, a film and video title index, and a name and subject index. In the tradition of the highly acclaimed publication Art and Architecture in Canada these volumes fill a long-standing need for a comprehensive reference tool for Canadian film and video. This bibliography guides and supports the work of film historians and practitioners, media librarians and visual curators, students and researchers, and members of the general public with an interest in film and video.

Book Synopsis Buoyancy-Driven Flow in Fluid-Saturated Porous Media near a Bounding Surface by : Hitoshi Sakamoto
Download or read book Buoyancy-Driven Flow in Fluid-Saturated Porous Media near a Bounding Surface written by Hitoshi Sakamoto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Brief reports on heat transfer from a solid boundary in a saturated porous medium. Experiments reveal overall heat transfer laws when the flow along the wall is driven by buoyancy produced by large temperature differences, and mathematical analysis using advanced volume-averaging techniques produce estimates of how heat is dispersed in the porous zone. Engineers, hydrologists and geophysicists will find the results valuable for validation of laboratory and field tests, as well as testing their models of dispersion of heat and mass in saturated media.
Book Synopsis Culture, Communication, and National Identity by : Richard Collins
Download or read book Culture, Communication, and National Identity written by Richard Collins and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ?There can be no political sovereignty without culture sovereignty.' So argued the CBC in 1985 in its evidence to the Caplan/Sauvageau Task Force on Broadcasting Policy. Richard Collins challenges this assumption. He argues in this study of nationalism and Canadian television policy that Canada's political sovereignty depends much less on Canadian content in television than has generally been accepted. His analysis focuses on television drama, at the centre of television policy in the 1980s. Collins questions the conventional image of Canada as a weak national entity undermined by its population's predilection for foreign television. Rather, he argues, Canada is held together, not by a shared repertoire of symbols, a national culture, but by other social forces, notably political institutions. Collins maintains that important advantages actually and potentially flow from Canada's wear national symbolic culture. Rethinking the relationships between television and society in Canada may yield a more successful broadcasting policy, more popular television programming, and a better understanding of the links between culture and the body politic. As the European Community moves closer to political unity, the Canadian case may become more relevant to Europe, which, Collins suggests, already fears the ?Canadianization? of its television. He maintains that a European multilingual society, without a shared culture or common European audio-visual sphere and with viewers watching foreign television, can survive successfully as a political entity ? just as Canada has.
