Book Synopsis March 1966 Observations of the Galactic Spur in the 20 to 40 MHz Range by : Donald A. Guidice
Download or read book March 1966 Observations of the Galactic Spur in the 20 to 40 MHz Range written by Donald A. Guidice and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In March 1966 observations were made at the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory to map the region of the Galactic Spur (North Polar Spur) in the 20-40 MHz range. Simultaneous observations were made at 38.75, 33.45, 26.70, and 22.30 MHz using a log-periodic feed, a four-way power divider, and individual null-balancing radiometers. Antenna half-power beamwidths were roughly 2.0 degrees at 38.75 and 3.3 degrees at 22.30 MHz. The observations were confined to the 2300-0500 local time period to minimize ionospheric effects. The area observed was between 12h and 16h right ascension, +32 degrees and +2 degrees declination. Results are given in the report.

Book Synopsis March-April 1967 Observations of the Galactic Spur and Their Interpretation by : Donald A. Guidice
Download or read book March-April 1967 Observations of the Galactic Spur and Their Interpretation written by Donald A. Guidice and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the brightness temperature distribution of the Galactic Spur in the northern hemisphere has been carried out for the 20 to 40 MHz frequency range. Observations were made at 38.75, 33.45, 26.70, and 22.30 MHz during March-April 1967, using the 1000-ft radio telescope of the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory. These observations supersede the very limited observations taken at Arecibo the previous year. Descriptions of the observations and the data analysis are given. Contour maps of the Galactic Spur (corrected antenna temperature and brightness temperature) for the four frequencies are presented, covering the celestial region alpha = 12h to 18h, Delta = 0 to +35 degrees. The rainbow, the minor spiral arm, and the supernova remnant theories of the Spur's origin are discussed. (Author).

This book was released on 1970 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of certain discrete radio sources, including the experimental measurement of their flux densities and a theoretical interpretation of their spectra, has been carried out for the 20-40 MHz frequency range. The observations were made at 22.30, 26.70, 33.45 and 38.75 MHz using the 1000-ft radio telescope of the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory. Descriptions of the observations and the data analysis are given, together with a discussion of the limitations imposed on the measurements by the ionosphere and the radio telescope. The flux densities of eight discrete radio sources at the four operating frequencies, measured relative to Taurus A, are presented. A detailed error analysis was carried out; anticipated errors are given for each flux density value. (Author).

Book Synopsis The Determination of Antenna Parameters by the Use of Extraterrestrial Radio Sources by : D. A. Guidice
Download or read book The Determination of Antenna Parameters by the Use of Extraterrestrial Radio Sources written by D. A. Guidice and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last ten years, vast improvements in technology and instrumentation have allowed radio astronomy to go beyond the stage where its measurements were principally of interest to pure science (astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, etc.) to a stage today where such measurements have important practical application in the fields of communications, radar, and antenna systems. This report covers the application of extraterrestrial radio sources, whose emission properties (flux density, spectrum, celestial position, angular size, etc.) have been firmly established by careful radio-astronomical observations, to the determination of antenna parameters. The extraterrestrial radio sources whose properties are presented are the sun, the moon, and the strong discrete (celestial) radio sources. The areas of application discussed in detail are the determination of antenna gain, effective area, and aperture efficiency and the measurement of the power pattern of an antenna. Another application briefly discussed is the measurement of effective radiated power from satellites. (Author).
