Book Synopsis The Field Is The World by : Donald Philip Corr
Download or read book The Field Is The World written by Donald Philip Corr and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 1991-05-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The immediate origins of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions are well known. In the midst of the Second Great Awakening and a growing Trinitarian-Unitarian controversy, a small group of college students met in 1806 to discuss the spiritual condition of the Asian nations. A storm arose and they took shelter in a haystack. From this “Haystack Prayer Meeting” came the resolve to take the Gospel to those who had not heard. The Field Is the World tells the story of the students’ petition to the General Association of Congregational Ministers of Massachusetts to seek ways to respond to Christ’s call to preach the gospel to every creature. The resulting Board of Commissioners became the first evangelical mission organization to transcend denominational affiliations in the U.S. and to represent the epitome of the missionary enterprise at large. Donald Philip Corr has presented one of a limited number of scholarly works on the Board’s ministry beyond the U.S., particularly its pioneering efforts on the role of preaching and social work and the theme of indigenization among unreached peoples.
Book Synopsis American Turkish Encounters by : Bilge Nur Criss
Download or read book American Turkish Encounters written by Bilge Nur Criss and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turkey and the United States have been critically important to each other since the beginning of the Cold War. The history of Turkish-American relations includes not only strategic, but also political, social, cultural and intellectual dimensions. While critical to understanding Turkish-American relations, these dimensions rarely surface in today’s discourse, which reduces bilateral relations to issues currently being contested. In reality, the encounter between East and West embodied in Turkish-American interactions ranges from the official and diplomatic, to unofficial and informal exchanges at the social and individual level; while often compatible and friendly, such interactions occasionally have been less so. Authors from both countries developed a variety of perspectives on their interactions through original research that will enable both specialists and general readers to appreciate its many facets. Most scholarly works on the two nations have been limited to the analysis of US-Turkish relations in the context of Cold War politics. The editors intend that this volume will begin to fill a serious gap and encourage others to study American-Turkish relations from as many aspects as possible. This book shows that when seen in a historical framework, the American Turkish encounter took place beyond the level of formal political and military ties during the Cold War period and has enduringly interacted at the level of educational, social, and cultural realms.

Book excerpt: This revised edition of Missions and Money offers new reflections in the light of a changed situation in Christian missionary circles. Bonk offers new reflections in the lights of a changed situation, now marked by increases in the number of short-term missioners and increases in the numbers of Asians, Africans, and Latin Americans leaving their homelands to serves as missionaries to other people. This book was released on 2008-11-15 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, the world mission has unprecedentedly become a task of every national churches and believers on earth. Missionaries are being sent out from every nations to every nations! Strategists have previously noticed that Africa, along with East Asia, would emerge as the key fulcrum for world missions in the 21st Century. 2010 Lausanne Congress held in South Africa proved that to be true. Along this path, Evangelical Alliance for Preacher Training/Commission (EAPTC) opened their missions training schools in Kenya and South Korea, using this book as their training text. It was through the efforts of those missionary trainees that their work expanded into over 200 new church plants in 11 countries today. This book was put together mainly for Two-Thirds World missionary candidates who often find themselves limited with sound missions training opportunities around, while the lessons in this manual apply to all who are mission-interested. Going as a missionary or sending a missionary without proper training is quite reckless. The principles of cross-cultural mission presented in 11 chapters of this book are field-tested nuggets that can certainly equip anyone aspiring for missionary work. The training has been scientifically validated effective through research and used in Africa, Asia, Americas and Oceania. This manual is also available in French, Spanish, Portuguese and Amharic.
