Este sistema de irrigação destina-se a exploração de culturas olerícolas. O custo de investimento deste sistema de irrigação, sob condições de baixa pressão (sem necessidade de bombeamento) representa em média 38% do custo de investimento do sistema de irrigação por aspersão. Sob condição de bombeamento, o custo de investimento desse sistema se equivale ao do sistema de irrigação por aspersão, mas que permite a irrigação em terrenos com declividades bastante elevadas, que normalmente, limitam o emprego dos sistemas de irrigação convencionais.
