Book Synopsis Instructor’s Manual for Statistical Methods in Education and Psychology by : A.K. Kurtz
Download or read book Instructor’s Manual for Statistical Methods in Education and Psychology written by A.K. Kurtz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Instructor's Manual consists of two parts, each arranged in the order in which the chapters appear in the text. The first part is a collection of over 500 test questions; the second gives answers to the questions in the Student Work book. Clearly, the Instructor's Manual should never be shown to students. Great care should be taken to see that no student (except a graduate assistant who needs it for scoring papers) ever gets to borrow it or, worse yet, to "borrow" it. Most of the test questions are multiple choice, but some matehing exercises are also included. Within each chapter, the multiple choice items are givenfirst. The text page on which the answer is found is given in ( ) at the right of the problem. The answer is indicated by a + sign at the left of the correct item alternative. In some items, parts of the item, especially in the wrong alternatives, may not appear untillater chapters. Such questions are clearly labelIed LATER by using LATER in place of a +and should not be used until all the material in them has been covered. They are OK for final examinations and for some rnidterm examinations, but they obviously cannot be used in their present form assoon as their prirnary topic has been covered in class. Tell your typist that when she prepares one of your tests, she should omit +, LATER, the parenthetical page numbers, and, of course, the answers to all matehing items.

Book Synopsis The University System and Economic Development in Mexico Since 1929 by : David Lorey
Download or read book The University System and Economic Development in Mexico Since 1929 written by David Lorey and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1993-11-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, Mexican leaders and scholars as well as outside observers have spoken of a Mexican university system in crisis, expressing concern over student political activism and violence, declining quality of instruction and facilities, crowded campuses, and lack of employment for graduates. When the government harshly suppressed a student movement in 1968, world attention focused on the turmoil that was endemic in university life. During the severe economic slump of the 1980s, the fundamental weaknesses of the Mexican economy—its inefficiency and inability to compete in the world—were often attributed to failings of the university system. Using original quantitative data on the graduates of all Mexican universities in a dozen major professional fields since 1929, the author explores the nature of this purported "crisis" by examining a series of questions about the Mexican university system: How have the changing policy priorities of the Mexican government affected the university’s education of professionals? How have the Mexican economy’s needs for professionals shaped the functioning of the university system? Has Mexico trained "enough" professionals? Have they been trained in the "right" fields? Has the university been able to respond to demands for upward mobility through higher education? The author’s detailed analysis reveals a paradox: to the extent that Mexican universities may not be producing the kinds of expertise needed for competing in the new global marketplace, that educational quality has declined gradually over time, and that the university has not contributed much to social mobility, one may indeed speak of a crisis. Yet because the university system has reached its present form in response to demands placed on it be government, the economy, and society, responding pragmatically to circumstances beyond its control, the author concludes that the crisis is not fundamentally a university crisis, but rather one that lies in Mexican economy and society at large.

Book Synopsis Manual of Romance Languages in Africa by : Ursula Reutner
Download or read book Manual of Romance Languages in Africa written by Ursula Reutner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-18 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With more than two thousand languages spread over its territory, multilingualism is a common reality in Africa. The main official languages of most African countries are Indo-European, in many instances Romance. As they were primarily brought to Africa in the era of colonization, the areas discussed in this volume are thirty-five states that were once ruled by Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, or Spain, and the African regions still belonging to three of them. Twenty-six states are presented in relation to French, four to Italian, six to Portuguese, and two to Spanish. They are considered in separate chapters according to their sociolinguistic situation, linguistic history, external language policy, linguistic characteristics, and internal language policy. The result is a comprehensive overview of the Romance languages in modern-day Africa. It follows a coherent structure, offers linguistic and sociolinguistic information, and illustrates language contact situations, power relations, as well as the cross-fertilization and mutual enrichment emerging from the interplay of languages and cultures in Africa.
Book Synopsis Education in Central America and the Caribbean by : Colin Brock
Download or read book Education in Central America and the Caribbean written by Colin Brock and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1990. The Caribbean basin is an extremely diverse area in geographical, ethnic and cultural terms. Its educational systems, too, are remarkably varied, reflecting colonial and religious traditions as well as those of a broad range of post-independence movements. Even these show a pronounced merging of the home-grown and the foreign, with the influence of the superpowers never far away. This book comprises a number of case studies ranging across the Caribbean region. The contributors focus in particular on Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands, Mexico City, Central America, Costa Rica and Venezuela. By assembling studies from diverse cultural and political traditions and networks, the book gives a more comprehensive Caribbean perspective on education than has hitherto been available.
