Book excerpt: This study aims to engage the textual realities of medieval literature by shedding light on the material lives of poems during the Tang, from their initial oral or written instantiation through their often lengthy and twisted paths of circulation. Tang poems exist today in stable written forms assumed to reflect their creators’ original intent. Yet Tang poetic culture was based on hand-copied manuscripts and oral performance. We have almost no access to this poetry as it was experienced by contemporaries. This is no trivial matter, the author argues. If we do not understand how Tang people composed, experienced, and transmitted this poetry, we miss something fundamental about the roles of memory and copying in the circulation of poetry as well as readers’ dynamic participation in the creation of texts. We learn something different about poems when we examine them, not as literary works transcending any particular physical form, but as objects with distinct physical attributes, visual and sonic. The attitudes of the Tang audience toward the stability of texts matter as well. Understanding Tang poetry requires acknowledging that Tang literary culture accepted the conscious revision of these works by authors, readers, and transmitters. 2012 Joseph Levenson Book Prize, Pre-1900 Category, China and Inner Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies

Book excerpt: Too often, people drift through life with a feeling of frustration, longing to find some adventure or purpose in life, envious of those whose lives seem exciting. In WRITE IT DOWN, MAKE IT HAPPEN, Henriette Anne Klauser shows you how to write your own lifescript. Simply writing down your goals in life is the first step towards achieving them. The 'writing it down' part is not about time management; it is not a 'to-do today' list that will make you feel guilty if you don't get everything done. Rather, writing it down is about clearing your head, identifying what you want and setting your intent. You can 'make it happen' purely by believing in the possibility. In WRITE IT DOWN, MAKE IT HAPPEN, there are stories from ordinary people who witnessed miracles large and small unfold in their lives after they performed the basic act of putting their goals on paper.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A step-by-step guide to the process of “scripting” your future and successfully manifesting what you want in life • Explores the science behind how the scripting method works and shares the vivid journal entries from the author’s big breakthrough--when he successfully used his method to land a lead role on a TV show • Details how the understanding of incredible new (and, until now, mostly unheard of) scientific discoveries and emerging technologies is the most important key to creating and manifesting in your life • Reveals fun, easy tools for manifesting and self-help, updated for a new generation In this step-by-step guide, filled with success stories and practical exercises, Royce Christyn details a simple “scripting” process for harnessing the Law of Attraction and manifesting what you want in your life--happiness, wealth, travel, love, health, the perfect career, or simply a productive day. The process is backed by science and experience, yet it feels like magic. And all you need is a pen and paper. Inspired by New Thought and Positive Thinking classics, Christyn explains how he developed his scripting method through 4 years of trial and error, keeping what worked and dropping what didn’t until he brought his success rate from 5% to nearly 100%. Sharing pages from his own journals, he outlines how to create the life you want with daily journaling exercises, beginning with a simple list-making practice to figure out your wants and intentions and then progressing to actual scripting of your future, whether the next 12 hours or the next 10 days. He shows how, over time, your scripts will increase in accuracy until they converge with reality. He shares the vivid entries from his big breakthrough--when he successfully used his method to land a lead guest-starring role on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place with Selena Gomez. He explores how “feeling” your future success as you write your daily scripts helps attract your desired outcomes, and he shares the key phrases to include to make your script come true. The author also explores the science behind how the scripting method works, including a down-to-earth examination of quantum mechanics. From small dreams to lifelong goals, this book gives you the tools to put your thoughts into action and finally close the gap between where you are and where you want to be in your life.

Book excerpt: Want to Learn the Necessary Skills for Becoming a Manifesting Pro and Reaching Your Desires? Read on. "The Secret" made the Law of Attraction a sensation in the 2000s bringing excitement and awareness to an age-old phenomenon. Until recently, it was known by only a handful of highly attuned individuals, one of whom was the Buddha. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought; what we think we become." Consistent and convincing thoughts can penetrate your subconscious and raise your level of awareness to notice new opportunities to obtain your desire. Now, awareness about the Law of Attraction is widespread, but people's results are mixed. Though the concept is well established and straightforward, it's not always so easy to get the desired results. Several principles need to be observed regularly in a particular way to be successful. As a result, the execution can be rather complicated. For example, thoughts can determine your reality, but many do not. Thoughts that manifest desires successfully need to have certain attributes and be repeated without competing doubts. How to do it remains elusive to many determined to realize their biggest dreams. Consequently, many books have attempted to nail down a simple guide for getting what you want using the Law of Attraction. After all, this is not about being interesting at a cocktail party with gobs of facts, it's about getting what you most want, fast. Makes sense, right? But despite these intentions, one area that's often ignored by these books is how to effectively write what's needed for the different practices in the manifesting process. This is strange given how critical word choice is for manifesting. Buddha sums up this reality best, "The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed..." "Transformational Writing" fills this need by providing a simple and quick guide that helps you get better at writing and other critical practices required for success. In "Transformational Writing," you ́ll discover: What must be in your scripts to impact your subconscious (required for manifesting) 3 tricks for making your writing more exciting The only proven way to raise your vibration to notice previously unseen opportunities One surprisingly simple way to keep your manifesting practice fun and consistent. How to finally believe what your affirmations are saying about you Balancing deliberate planning and action with being open to serendipity and change 5 ways to uncover your true desire so you manifest more quickly Designing a manifesting process to clear the way for rapid growth And much more... At first, people might resist manifesting their desires because the Law of Attraction feels so outside normal reality. But they become open to it after hearing the stories of success from others and seeing that science has verified thoughts affect reality. The biggest cause for ongoing resistance is that results can sometimes be elusive. While this frustration is understandable, it's easily fixed. By getting rooted in the principles and aligning your practices and beliefs with your desire, the Law of Attraction comes alive. It's a matter of having these guidelines spelled out simply to make their application straightforward. Book excerpt: At once a revered canon associated with Confucius and the earliest anthology of poetry, the Book of Poems holds a unique place in Chinese literary history. Since early imperial times it served as an ideal of literary perfection, as it provided a basis for defining shi poetry, the most esteemed genre of elite composition. In imperial China, however, literary criticism and classical learning represented distinct fields of inquiry that differed in status, with classical learning considered more serious and prestigious. Literary critics thus highlighted connections between the Book of Poems and later verse, while classical scholars obscured the origins of their ideas in literary theory. This book explores the mutual influence of literary and classicizing approaches, which frequently and fruitfully borrowed from one another. Drawing on a wide range of sources including commentaries, anthologies, colophons, and inscriptions, Bruce Rusk chronicles how scholars borrowed from critics without attribution and even resorted to forgery to make appealing new ideas look old. By unraveling the relationships through which classical and literary scholarship on the Book of Poems co-evolved from the Han dynasty through the Qing, this study shows that the ancient classic was the catalyst for intellectual innovation and literary invention.

Book excerpt: The spiritual aspects of life are often times ignored in our modern day fast paced life. However thanks to the popularity of the book, "The Secret: " by Rhonda Byrne, the mystical and metaphysical aspects of life, living, creation and creating the life you want was forced to the forefront of our modern day life. For the first time in years people have become curious about their own internal power, and the term "Law of Attraction." No longer had, "Visualization," nor the term, "Law of Attraction," been a modality for the hipsters, but now it was mainstream. To further give credit to the term "Law of Attraction," and now what some call "New Age," wisdom both authors Jerry & Ester Hicks brought deeper meaning to creating the life you desire. If you've experience the teachings of Ester Hicks, or have read the book "The Secret," you are not new to writing your vision down or the idea of manifesting the life you want. This book uses the basic fundamentals of attracting the life you want, by using the power of words and writing. There is plenty of power in words & thoughts, especially those written on paper. We take the ancient practice of writing to a new level when we add vision casting to it. This book is your journal to creating the life you desire word by word, thought by thought, this is your vision board in written form. You have the power to change your life. You can create it.
