Book excerpt: How many times have we seen or heard, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.” Proverbs 18:22 But is it written anywhere that a wife can “Manhandle” her husband? In so many instances we hear or read about domestic violence or spousal abuse; our thought processes instantly think of a man abusing a woman. In very few situations do we ever observe or notice the exact opposite or “role reversal.” However, “Manhandled” reds and captures this role reversal at its best with high intensity. It exemplifies many areas of our daily domestic and intimate relationships, and makes one wonder how and why this could happen?

Book excerpt: Manhandled is book 1 of the Sigma Saints MC trilogy. Books 2 and 3, Mangled and Roughed Up are available everywhere now! SHE'S ABOUT TO GET MANHANDLED. When you stick your nose where you don't belong, then some punishment is in order. It's too late for "I'm sorry" or "It was an accident." She trespassed on the wrong man. And I'm about to show her how delicious this punishment can be. She was nothing special. At least, that's what I used to think. When she first barged in and heard some things she definitely should NOT have heard, I didn't think much of her. She was cute, sure. Sexy even, in an innocent kind of way. But she was a loose end, and that meant one thing: She needed to be tied up. I cuffed her down until I could decide where to dispose of her once I'd done what had to be done. But the longer I stared at her, the more my hunger grew. A prize like this shouldn't be just thrown away. It needed to be tasted. Savored. Devoured. I'd had a million girls before her, but Jess is another species entirely. She brings out sides of me I never knew were there. I don't know whether to thank her for it… Or bend her over my knee and spank her to teach her a lesson. Lucky for me, I don't have to choose between the two. We've got plenty of time for both.
Book Synopsis Beards and Texts by : Sebastian Coxon
Download or read book Beards and Texts written by Sebastian Coxon and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2021-09-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beards and Texts explores the literary portrayal of beards in medieval German texts from the mid-twelfth to the early sixteenth centuries. It argues that as the pre-eminent symbol for masculinity the beard played a distinctive role throughout the Middle Ages in literary discussions of such major themes as majesty and humanity. At the same time beards served as an important point of reference in didactic poetry concerned with wisdom, teaching and learning, and in comedic texts that were designed to make their audiences laugh, not least by submitting various figure-types to the indignity of having their beards manhandled. Four main chapters each offer a reading of a work or poetic tradition of particular significance (Pfaffe Konrad’s Rolandslied; Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Willehalm; ‘Sangspruchdichtung’; Heinrich Wittenwiler’s Ring), before examining cognate material of various kinds, including sources or later versions of the same story, manuscript variants and miniatures and further relevant beard-motifs from the same period. The book concludes by reviewing the portrayal of Jesus in vernacular German literature, which represents a special test-case in the literary history of beards. As the first study of its kind in medieval German studies, this investigation submits beard-motifs to sustained and detailed analysis in order to shed light both on medieval poetic techniques and the normative construction of masculinity in a wide range of literary genres.
Download or read book American Sucker written by David Denby and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2005-04-07 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In early 2000 the bottom dropped out of the life of writer David Denby when his wife decided to leave him. Propelled to make some money quickly, and seized by the 'irrational exuberance' of the stock market, then approaching its peak, Denby enthusiastically joined the investment frenzy. Over the next few months he listened raptly to bullish stock analysts, dreamy hi-tech gurus and boastful heads of companies. He plunged into a season of mania and was swept forward on currents of hope, greed and hucksterism - with cataclysmic results. American Sucker is a mesmerising account of those years of madness. What begins as a money chase and an engagement with rampant capitalism soon becomes an encounter with such timeless issues as love, envy, true value - and life and death itself. This is a classic tale of the bubble related not by a market guru or an investment professional but by a witty, perceptive and eloquent outsider.

Book excerpt: George Plimpton's follow-up to Paper Lion, one of his personal favorites among his classic books -- repackaged and including a foreword from Steve Almond and never-before-seen content from the Plimpton archives. In Mad Ducks and Bears, George Plimpton's engaging companion to Paper Lion, Plimpton focuses on two of the most entertaining and roguish linemen and former teammates -- Alex Karras ("Mad Ducks") and John Gordy ("Bears"), both of whom went on to achieve brilliant post-football success. A more reflective, less madcap book than Plimpton's other work, Mad Ducks and Bears is no less truthful and searching. In this fond exploration of football's values and follies, Plimpton rejoins his two teammates to discuss their careers in this brutal but captivating game. The result is an astute exploration into the fascinating lives and motivations of the players at home, in the locker room, and on the field.
