These two teens are the last line of defense for a nation in ruins. Armed with a fully-operational tank the pair must fight off the zombie hordes while they catfight each other for food, entertainment and maybe even the affection and attention of the opposite sex. They have nothing to lose in this world except their humanity, but then again who are the zombies in this world? Are they the undead or are these two teens who must live among them even still human?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for young adults and their parents striving to navigate the turbulent waters of this transformational epoch. We are partway through a period of change that probably began when a young Albert Einstein penned on a scrappy piece of paper e=mc2. In time this will most likely be characterized as among the most significant in history, perhaps even more impactful than the Renaissance. One feature of this reformation is sure to be the development of a deep appreciation for the place of abundance in both nature and our lives. Today most people, organizations and communities describe their existence as a struggle to survive. Rarely does anyone report on how much they are thriving. That is strange because never before has humanity as a whole been so wealthy, so bathed in abundance. One reason is that most of contemporary life is governed by economic systems predicated on scarcity. Because it is not possible to make money unless there are natural or artificially-induced shortages, we are prone to reason about tradeoffs using a scarcity logic. As with every reformation, this era is both exciting and taxing. Once this transformation has taken root we will come to recognize that all of life is predicated on abundance. And with that realization we will begin to make major shifts in our thinking and our prioritizing. Of special import will be the addressing of an ancient folly that still haunts us. In his famous economic text Adam Smith signaled this dilemma by rhetorically asking why we assign zero monetary value to water, which is essential for all lives, but pay a small fortune for diamonds whose utility is purely symbolic? Economists have mostly ignored this issue, although the British fiscal maestro, Maynard Keynes did gratituously dub it the water-diamond paradox. Given the current socio-political complexities, the global world cannot possibly be sustained by an economic system based solely on scarcity. It needs to be augmented by a new financial infrastructure centered on abundance. As a precursor to this anticipated economic shift we face a large task, to develop a coherent and collective sense of abundance. This will take time. Since we already know a great deal about scarcity it seems wise to prepare for this evolutionary inevitability by learning to describe every-day events using the principles of abundance. Abundance is a way of seeing, a method of thinking, a form of emoting and a manner of intuiting. So is scarcity. Diamandis and Kotler, in their book Abundance, present a compelling and optimistic case that the future is better than we think. In the past people have treated shortages as evidence of scarcity and have spoken about abundance in terms of excesses. Such notions are now being re-conceptualized. Abundance involves balancing consumption and replenishment, decay and regeneration, expired pasts and future dreams. It also depends on the restrictions and regulatory actions of Yin-Yang-like rheostats. As with a pregnancy approaching full-term, when the confining function of scarcity subsides, the landscape of what-is-to-be emerges. In an artful way this book shows how everyday events can be experienced as either awash with abundance or burdened by scarcity. If we so chose, we can all be guided by a self-created and communally-sustained sense of abundance. Learning how to see the best and the worst of times with an abundance rather than a scarcity lens is the special gift of this book.

A new addition to the wildly successful coloring-book genre, the leaded, kaleidoscopic designs of the beloved 132 Tiffany Studios lamps and three windows in the Neustadt Collection at the New-York Historical Society lend themselves perfectly to the format of a coloring book. The new drawings by renowned British illustrator Jessica Palmer, sixty-five single-page and full-spread illustrations in all, are inspired by the magical natural world of Tiffany, depicting dragonflies dancing among peonies, wisteria vines drooping over ponds, and entwining tulip and poppy blossoms. At least one dragonfly—arguably the best known of all Tiffany motifs—is found in every drawing, sometimes tucked away in a corner, sometimes the centerpiece. These intricate drawings beg to be filled in with a riot of color and are sure to provide a meditative calming of the spirit that coloring-book aficionados seek.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the reader, this book could be a journey into the author's mind, his heart and sometimes even his soul--full of defining moments--a peek into the man he's becoming. And for him, this is a journey that began and remained in a dream for nearly 40 years. Not quite awake, not quite asleep, but definitely and always--present. The journals that were the landscapes he painted with words of passion, of love or fury, but never indifference--were also the buffers that allowed an intensely private young man full and safe expression. A few of the poems he shares are simply whimsical. Their substance may be felt like the fluffy feathers of a down pillow. Something soft and cool to lay your head on and feel pleasantly OK. For him though, most of his poetry feels and looks like the rings of a once handsome, but rugged tree. Not cut down, but only momentarily exposed so as to share--not its own, but nature's history and gifts of beauty. The author begs the reader's indulgence in allowing him the outpouring of his bilingual spirit on some of these pages. The inspiration that flows may look like a florescent yellow cactus flower in a sea of white Spring lilies, but where the heart goes, the pen just follows. Like this book, he has opened himself up and invites any who will dare to meander through his sometimes quirky imagination. Now, no more the guarded, reserved dreamer, but a wiser optimist and a realist--at least every other Tuesday. No teacher is he, as the majestic brother Wolf, but the mythical Coyote prankster whose many plans and schemes often cause him to flail and fall only to get back up and try again to sometimes succeed in the light of his efforts. Dear reader, this book is his way of giving thanks and giving back by sharing with complete abandon, for all the pleasures and sorrows, and even each breath we take for granted.

Book excerpt: With refreshing depth, distinct literary merit, and highly original poetic phrasings that spill from the pages like paint, Colorado Mandala is poet Brian Heffron's debut work of literary fiction. It mines the complex landscape of post-Vietnam America to unearth the deep connections that bind individuals together, and also ferociously rip them asunder. Illustrative, luscious, seductive, and engaging, this rare piece of craftsmanship will stir the senses of any one who thirsts for artistic expression, or who longs for an era in our country now utterly, irretrievably gone. In the heady, hippie backdrop of Pike's Peak, Colorado, in the tumultuous 1970s, three souls swirl together in an explosive supernova. Michael is the flinty-eyed, volatile former Green Beret, whose tour in Vietnam has left unbridgeable chasms in his psyche and secrets that can never find light. Sarah is his fair-haired paramour, the ethereal Earth Mother widow of a fallen soldier and single mother to a ten-year-old son Stuart. Paul is a young wanderer, who is drawn in by Michael and soon bears the mantle of both minister and scourge. As they are drawn together, and torn apart, each is changed forever. And our hearts race along with them, through the rocky, raw Colorado terrain amidst the blood sport of man and beast. Laying bare the loss and acceptance of a pioneering age, Colorado Mandala shines revelatory light on the crazy, glorious, and romantic notion that each generation conceives anew: that love can be a spiritual gift shared openly rather than coveted, or hidden, or hoarded. If you wish to go barefoot again and climb an unspoiled Colorado trail, look no further. If you long for something to wake you up in simple, clean language, a shimmering story awaits. Awaken to what you have always known: simple truths show you the way home. With his gripping and unforgettable Colorado Mandala, it is clear that Brian Heffron knows the way. Simply follow his trail.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sanskrit word mandala can be translated as "sacred circle." Within the circle sits a microcosm of the universe and/or consciousness, repre-sented by icons. Eastern civilizations developed the spiritual-artistic practice of creating mandalas—with sand, paint, and architecture—to high technical sophistication, making manifest a geometry with layers of esoteric meaning for both the mandala artist and the initiated spectator. James Joyce’s Mandala outlines and explains this iconic sacred geometry, and assesses to what extent Joyce’s works of literature, in particular Finnegans Wake, can be understood as mandalic constructs. Using exam-ples from Dubliners to the Wake, we see how fundamental to Joyce’s fiction is the issue of spiritual paralysis (a problem the mandala attempts to dissolve) and also how fascinated he was by geometric imagery and symmetry, the technical devices employed in mandala construction. This is the first book-length comparison of Joyce’s work with the mythic structure of the mandala. Never discounting the richness of Joyce’s genius, it uses his "collideorscape" to explore the secrets of the mandala principle as much as it uses mandala theory to illuminate his famed book of the night.
