Book excerpt: Contrary to the belief that brand management is mostly a matter of art and luck, the teams at McKinsey teams found out how brands can be measured, built, and managed systematically. Power Brands reveals the secret of strong brands, presenting a holistic approach to brand management, which combines precise science with target-oriented craft and inspiring art. Book Synopsis Managing Brand Equity by : David A. Aaker
Download or read book Managing Brand Equity written by David A. Aaker and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important assets of any business are intangible: its company name, brands, symbols, and slogans, and their underlying associations, perceived quality, name awareness, customer base, and proprietary resources such as patents, trademarks, and channel relationships. These assets, which comprise brand equity, are a primary source of competitive advantage and future earnings, contends David Aaker, a national authority on branding. Yet, research shows that managers cannot identify with confidence their brand associations, levels of consumer awareness, or degree of customer loyalty. Moreover in the last decade, managers desperate for short-term financial results have often unwittingly damaged their brands through price promotions and unwise brand extensions, causing irreversible deterioration of the value of the brand name. Although several companies, such as Canada Dry and Colgate-Palmolive, have recently created an equity management position to be guardian of the value of brand names, far too few managers, Aaker concludes, really understand the concept of brand equity and how it must be implemented. In a fascinating and insightful examination of the phenomenon of brand equity, Aaker provides a clear and well-defined structure of the relationship between a brand and its symbol and slogan, as well as each of the five underlying assets, which will clarify for managers exactly how brand equity does contribute value. The author opens each chapter with a historical analysis of either the success or failure of a particular company's attempt at building brand equity: the fascinating Ivory soap story; the transformation of Datsun to Nissan; the decline of Schlitz beer; the making of the Ford Taurus; and others. Finally, citing examples from many other companies, Aaker shows how to avoid the temptation to place short-term performance before the health of the brand and, instead, to manage brands strategically by creating, developing, and exploiting each of the five assets in turn

Book excerpt: Brands are one of the company’s most valuable assets. Brands benefit customers by creating value that goes beyond the product and service aspects of the offering. By bolstering customer demand, brands enable the company to capture greater value from its customers while at the same time strengthening the impact of the other marketing tactics, ensuring greater collaborator support, and facilitating the hiring and retaining of skilled employees. The key aspects of creating and managing brands are the focus of this note. The discussion of brand management is complemented by an in-depth overview of two additional topics: the role of brands as a means of self-expression and luxury branding. This note is an excerpt (Chapter 11) from Strategic Marketing Management: Theory and Practice by Alexander Chernev (Cerebellum Press, 2019).

Book Synopsis Co-creating Brands by : Nicholas Ind
Download or read book Co-creating Brands written by Nicholas Ind and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential guide to contemporary marketing that demonstrates, via case studies, the move towards marketing techniques that better reflect consumer needs. Brand management and development has traditionally been regarded as the responsibility of the organization – they design, produce and sell the brand, before delivering it to customers. Yet this approach can be needlessly restrictive, as the connective power of the internet and the desire of consumers to focus on experiences has reshaped branding. In this digital age, development occurs beyond the limits of the organization so that, in many ways, brands are effectively co-created by consumers. Rather than lead, manage and control, contemporary managers have taken on the new tasks of listening, connecting and participating in brand development. The focus of this process has shifted to the intersection between the organization and its stakeholders, leading to a new paradigm of brand management: the 'co-creation perspective'. Co-Creating Brands is an accessible exploration of how co-created brands produce value and how the success of this approach can be measured and assured. The authors draw upon a wide array of international case studies and strategic models, which clearly demonstrate how to both effectively deliver this method and how to deal with the situational challenges and obstacles that can occur. If organizational leaders are willing to relinquish complete control of their brand and recognize the supportive culture of employees, customers and stake-holders, their brand can become an unstoppable marketing force.

Book Synopsis Brand Management by : Michael Beverland
Download or read book Brand Management written by Michael Beverland and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2018-01-27 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the basics of brand management, the book provides both a theoretical and practical guide to brands, placing emphasis on the theory that the consumer is a co-creator in a brand′s identity. In a world in which social media and inclusive digital platforms have increased customer engagement, the role of brands and branding has changed. The line between the producer and the consumer has become blurred; consumers are no longer the recipients of brand identity, but the co-creators, playing a significant role in shaping new products and systems. To help students better understand the basics of brand management, and the co-creation theory, the book includes a collection of geographically diverse case studies, including: Burger King, Lego, Lynx, Maserati, HSBC and Vegemite. The book is complemented by online resources for lecturers and students, including PowerPoint slides, journal articles, web and video links, and a selection of exclusive videos with a professional brand consultant. Suitable reading for students of branding and brand management modules.
