Download or read book Racial Cities written by Giovanni Picker and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-02-24 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going beyond race-blind approaches to spatial segregation in Europe, Racial Cities argues that race is the logic through which stigmatized and segregated "Gypsy urban areas" have emerged and persisted after World War II. Building on nearly a decade of ethnographic and historical research in Romania, Italy, France and the UK, Giovanni Picker casts a series of case studies into the historical framework of circulations and borrowings between colony and metropole since the late nineteenth century. By focusing on socio-economic transformations and social dynamics in contemporary Cluj-Napoca, Pescara, Montreuil, Florence and Salford, Picker detects four local segregating mechanisms, and comparatively investigates resemblances between each of them and segregation in French Rabat, Italian Addis Ababa, and British New Delhi. These multiple global associations across space and time serve as an empirical basis for establishing a solid bridge between race critical theories and urban studies. Racial Cities is the first comprehensive analysis of the segregation of Romani people in Europe, providing a fine-tuned and in-depth explanation of this phenomenon. While inequalities increase globally and poverty is ever more concentrated, this book is a key contribution to debates and actions addressing social marginality, inequalities, racist exclusions, and governance. Thanks to its dense yet thoroughly accessible narration, the book will appeal to scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and equally to activists and policy makers, who are interested in areas including: Race and Racism, Urban Studies, Governance, Inequalities, Colonialism and Postcolonialism, and European Studies.

Book Synopsis Hypnotic Approaches in Cancer and Palliative Care by : Sylvain Néron
Download or read book Hypnotic Approaches in Cancer and Palliative Care written by Sylvain Néron and published by PUQ. This book was released on 2014-02-14T00:00:00-05:00 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This patient-centered and case-based eBook is intended for health care professionals who use—or may decide to use—clinical hypnosis in their professional work with cancer patients. With a personalized and flexible navigation system stimulating learning, it provides direct access to patients’ experiences and to the comments and analyses of two specialists. Each case features an original full session video recording and a full transcript of the session of real patients experiencing hypnosis focused on self-regulation improvements, pain relief, palliation of symptoms, and hope enhancement in the face of advanced or terminal cancer illness. The reader is invited to use these recordings to examine and inform his/her own practice and is encouraged to do such examination in an active and alert learning state. He/she will find several ways of incorporating hypnotic modalities at several points of the illness trajectory and in different contexts of the treatment continuum. For example, hypnosis will be observed in settings such as busy oncology clinics and at bedside, as well as in the preparation and execution of medical and diagnostic procedures. Hypnotherapy addressing existential and spiritual issues will also be presented. This innovative eBook, by putting emphasis on clinical relevance, interactions, and skill acquisition through demonstration, provides a unique opportunity to identify hypnotic phenomena and to understand the necessary modifications of classical hypnotic strategies clinically relevant to illness progression and hospice care.
Download or read book StarBriefs 2001 written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation probably looks like one of the craziest things a human being could spend his or her time on. Yet nobody would wonder at someone taking a short walk every day - after twenty five years that person would have covered a surprisingly long distance. This is exactly the story behind this list, which appeared first as a few pages within the directory StarGuides (or whatever name it had at that time) and as a distinct sister publication since 1990. The idea behind this dictionary is to offer astronomers and related space scientists practical assistance in decoding the numerous abbreviations, acronyms, contractions and symbols which they might encounter in all aspects of the vast range of their professional activities, including traveling. Perhaps it is a bit paradoxical, but if scientists quickly grasp the meaning of an acronym solely in their own specific discipline, they will probably encounter more difficulties when dealing with adjacent fields. It is for this purpose that this dictionary might be most often used. Scientists might also refer to this compilation in order to avoid identifying a project by an acronym which already has too many meanings or confused definitions.
