Book excerpt: Deep down most of us believe in magic, because we know that sometimes - just sometimes - magic can come tumbling into our lives with a blinding flash, and suddenly there we are facing the person we're destined to fall in love with, or being offered the job we never believed we would get, or we just find ourselves walking down that same familiar street, but this time it's different - this time we've fallen in love with life: this time everything looks different, and life feels wonderful and exciting again. Most people believe that you can't make this kind of magic occur in your life. They say you're either lucky or you're not: it either happens to you or it doesn't. But what if we could make magic happen? What if we could do things that actually made these types of experiences occur more often in our lives? And what if there was a book that taught this kind of magic?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, challenges, and triumphs. But what if there was a way to transform this journey into something truly magical? Imagine waking up every morning with a sense of wonder and excitement, knowing that each day holds the potential for extraordinary experiences and moments of pure joy. Creating a magical life is not about escaping reality but rather about infusing every aspect of your existence with a touch of enchantment. In The Magic Kingdom, we will explore different ways to create a magical life. From discovering your inner magic to nurturing authentic relationships and infusing everyday life with wonder, each step will bring you closer to a life filled with beauty, love, and fulfillment. Creating a magical life is all about embracing the power of positivity, having a clear vision for your future, and taking action to make your dreams a reality. It's about finding joy in the present moment, cultivating meaningful relationships, and pursuing your passions with purpose and intention. One of the first steps to creating a magical life is to focus on your mindset. This means letting go of negative thoughts and beliefs that hold you back and replacing them with positive affirmations and a can-do attitude. When you believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals, anything is possible. Another key to creating a magical life is to have a clear vision of what you want your life to look like. This means setting goals that align with your values and your passions and taking steps every day to work towards those goals. Whether it's starting your own business, traveling the world, or finding your soulmate, having a clear vision for your future can help you stay motivated and focused on what's truly important. I feel in a world that often feels mundane and ordinary, there is a deep longing within each of us to experience the extraordinary. We yearn for a life filled with wonder, joy, and a touch of enchantment. This desire stems from our innate belief that there is something magical within us waiting to be discovered. You need something to become passionate about. Something that fills your soul. Passions are like sparks that ignite the fire within us. They make us come alive, infusing our lives with purpose and meaning. To discover your inner magic, it is crucial to identify and embrace your passions. Reflect on what truly excites you, what makes your heart sing with joy. Is it writing, painting, cooking, singing, creating, or exploring the great outdoors? Once you've identified your passions, make a conscious effort to incorporate them into your daily life. By embracing what you love, you allow your inner magic to shine brightly. In "The Magic Kingdom" we learn our thoughts become our reality, they actually shape our reality, and a positive mindset is the key to unlocking our inner magic. It is easy to get caught up in negativity, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs. To discover your inner magic, cultivate a positive mindset. We will learn like I did personally to practice self-awareness and monitor your thoughts. Challenge negative or self-defeating thoughts and reframe them into positive affirmations. You will learn as I did to surround yourself with positive influences through people, books, podcasts, or uplifting social connections. A positive mindset allows you to see the beauty and possibilities within challenges and hardships. You will refer to it whenever you are feeling lost, anxious, overwhelmed, or feel like nothing will ever change. Lord knows I do this periodically. It is truly scary and can derail your progress temporarily. But never fear we are going to conquer the self-care dragons in the pages ahead. Self-Care or maintenance through-out your magical journey is a crucial part of this journey. Self-care is vital for discovering your inner magic.

Book excerpt: Honorable Mention for the 2022 Elli Köngäs-Maranda Prize awarded by the Women's Section of the American Folklore Society Goddess characters are revered as feminist heroes in the popular media of many cultures. However, these goddess characters often prove to be less promising and more regressive than most people initially perceive. Goddesses in film, television, and fiction project worldviews and messages that reflect mostly patriarchal culture (included essentialized gender assumptions), in contrast to the feminist, empowering levels many fans and critics observe. Building on critiques of other skeptical scholars, this feminist, folkloristic approach deepens how our remythologizing of the ancient past reflects a contemporary worldview and rhetoric. Structures of contemporary goddess myths often fit typical extremes as either vilified, destructive, dark, and chaotic (typical in film or television); or romanticized, positive, even utopian (typical in women’s speculative fiction). This goddess spectrum persistently essentializes gender, stereotyping women as emotional, intuitive, sexual, motherly beings (good or bad), precluded from complex potential and fuller natures. Within apparent good-over-evil, pop-culture narrative frames, these goddesses all suffer significantly. However, a few recent intersectional writers, like N. K. Jemisin, break through these dark reflections of contemporary power dynamics to offer complex characters who evince “hopepunk.” They resist typical simplified, reductionist absolutes to offer messages that resonate with potential for today’s world. Mythic narratives featuring goddesses often do, but need not, serve merely as ideological mirrors of our culture’s still problematically reductionist approach to women and all humanity.

Book excerpt: Throughout the globe, STEM careers exist. However, in some countries, particular STEM careers have been male-dominated while in other countries no gender biases exist as it relates to STEM careers. One common trend which occurs throughout the world is that women who are working in these STEM related fields typically leave after about five years. Contrarily, it has also been uncovered that more women stay in these fields when we all work together. Empowering Women in STEM: Working Together to Inspire the Future provides a platform to share the stories of those who have been in STEM careers but have pivoted to other areas by utilizing the STEM skills they learned. It bridges the gap between those who are thinking about entering or leaving STEM careers, along with those who want to encourage others into STEM careers. This book showcases how everyone’s journey is different, some may have unexpected twists and turns while others appear to conform to the "normal" rules outlined by society. By offering a front-row seat on a journey that takes many different paths, this book provides advice that can lead to a STEM career with or without having a STEM background. The different roads taken are highlighted to show how everyone’s path is unique and how that is okay. With the upcoming generation constantly looking for ways to "fit in" or be able to identify with role models to help them chart their way forward, this book ensures that they have not just one, but a variety of role models and success stories to relate to. It also offers some key advice which can be applied to any field they choose. In addition to having women and men from across the globe share their stories about various fields, this book also is written for professionals who may be considering a switch of career or deciding to leave STEM, and for university students who are trying to figure out their career choices and paths to take to gain more insight into possible new career goals in STEM.

Book excerpt: A world-renowned expert in lucid dreaming and Tibetan dream yoga guides us into the tradition’s daytime practices, a complement to the nighttime practices taught in his previous book Dream Yoga. Most of us are absolutely certain that we’re awake here and now—it’s a given, right? Yet, according to Tibet’s dream yoga tradition, ordinary waking life is no more real than the illusions of our nightly dreams. In his previous book Dream Yoga, Andrew Holecek guided us into Tibetan Buddhism’s nocturnal path of lucid dreaming and other dimensions of sleeping consciousness. Now, with Dreams of Light, he offers us an in-depth, step-by-step guide to its daytime practices. Known as the “illusory form” practices, these teachings include insights, meditations, and actions to help us realize the dreamlike nature of our lives. Through an immersive exploration of the tradition, beginners and seasoned practitioners alike will learn everything they need to deeply transform both their sleeping and waking hours. “If you’ve struggled to awaken in your dreams,” teaches Holecek, “these techniques will often spark spontaneous lucidity during sleep. And if you’re already a successful lucid dreamer, they will open you to new depths of experience throughout your day.” For those wishing to explore Tibetan Buddhism’s profound path for awakening to the true nature of reality—day or night—Dreams of Light shows us the way.
