Book excerpt: Les indicateurs physico-chimiques de classe 6, un des paramètres permettant la validation en routine des cycles de stérilisation par la vapeur d'eau, doivent être performants et fiables. Des essais ont été effectuées à la Stérilisation Centrale du C.H.U. de Rouen afin d'évaluer leurs performances et de déterminer leur place au sein des contrôles de routine. Nous avons ainsi pu mettre en évidence deux principaux points faibles : manque de conformité par rapport aux normes en vigueur et manque de fiabilité par rapport aux A.T.N.C. Les indicateurs d'émulation sont sensibles à la vapeur d'eau dès 110°C et les conditions d'évaluation de leurs performances sont très différentes des conditions de stérilisation en milieu hospitalier par la présence d'une phase de pré-traitement importante. Même si certains, semblent plus performants que d'autres, les indicateurs physico-chimiques de classe 6 actuellement commercialisés ne permettent donc pas de contrôler une température et une durée de plateau de stérilisation. Les sondes embarquées sont des moyens de contrôle beaucoup plus précis que les indicateurs qui contrôlent une qualité de stérilisation. A condition qu'ils soient fiables, les indicateurs, par un faible encombrement leur permettant d'être logés dans tous les endroits de la charge, représentent l'assurance qualité dans chaque boîte, conteneur, sachet, ... Pour une validation optimale en routine des cycles de stérilisation par la vapeur d'eau, l'utilisation concomitante des sondes embarquées et des indicateurs d'émulation semblerait un bon compromis. Les unes permettent de valider la charge au niveau des services de stérilisation ; les autres garantissent aux utilisateurs une bonne qualité de stérilisation.
