Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrothermally synthesized rare-earth oxide compounds such as Nd2O3, Dy2O3, Gd2O3, Eu2O3, Y2O3, etc. and hydroxide compounds such as Y(OH)3, Dy(OH)3, Gd(OH)3, Eu(OH)3, Tb(OH)3, etc. have been widely used as high-performance luminescent devices, catalysts and other functional materials based on the electronic, optical and chemical characteristics arising from their 4f electrons. In the crystallization process, surfactant molecules adsorbed on the crystal nuclei serve not only as a growth director but also as a protector to prevent from aggregation of the product. As a result, nanorods were produced. Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and hexadecylamine (HDA) surfactant are plays a key role in controlling the growth and production of oxide phosphors in the hydrothermal method.

Book excerpt: Nanosized magnetic materials have received great attention and importance during the last decade. Nanomagnetic material is one of the hottest subjects of present day research activities. The physical properties of nanosized magnetic materials differ considerably from that of their bulk counterparts and the magnetic characteristics of many materials can be tuned by reducing their size. The objectives of this research work are the synthesis and studies on the structural and magnetic properties of some selected transition metal oxides and ferrites in nanocrystalline form. The research work has been carried out on transition metal ion doped zinc oxide (ZnO) based diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs), some ferrites (for instance, Zn-ferrite, NiZn-ferrite, maghemite, etc.) and magnetopolymer nanocomposite systems. The respective nanocrystalline oxides are synthesized using a simple solution combustion method and characterized using various techniques. The results from the studies on different materials are presented in this thesis, consisting of six chapters. Last but not the least, several performance parameters have been measured and conditions for best results have been discussed.

Book excerpt: Ferrite nanoparticles have attracted a lot of promise in different field (Targeted drug delivery, NMR, hyperthermia and etc).In this book, we dealt with synthetic tehnique (Chemical precipitation and Microemulsion) for the synthesis of multicomponent ferrite nanoparticles. We carried out structural and magnetic study of multicomponent ferrite at different temperature. We also studied the effect of Zn doping in different ratio on structural and magnetic properties. We also studied magnetic behavior at different temperature. This book also dealt with synthesis of long nanofibre polyaniline and its composite with multicomponent ferrite. we discussed the effect of polyaniline nanofibre on magnetic properties of ferrite and mechanism of formation of polyaniline nanofibre and polyaniline composite with schematic diagram. So this book will be very helpful for those who are doing work in the field of nanoparticle and its composite

The Mn-Zn ferrite (MZF) is generalized soft spinel ferrite having high saturation magnetization at low applied magnetic field. This chapter covers the synthesis of nanoparticles of various sizes and compositions of Mn1-xZnx Fe2O4 with x = 0-1 by co-precipitation method. The structural and magnetic properties of the nanoparticles are discussed. The ferrofluids of superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic MZF nanoparticles were synthesized. The magneto-viscosity of ferrofluids with the dispersion of nanoparticles in different colloidal was studied. The Herschel-Bulkley model is applied to analyse the data for low viscosity ferrofluids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, results of our recent investigations on the structural, microstructural and magnetic properties of Cu-based Heusler alloys and MFe2O4 (M¬†=¬†Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) nanostructures will be discussed. The chapter is divided into two parts, the first part describes growth and different characterizations of Heusler alloys while in the second part magnetic properties of nano-ferrites are discussed. The Cu50Mn25Al25-xGax (x¬†=¬†0, 2, 4, 8 and 10 at %) alloys have been synthesized in the form of ribbons. The alloys with x¬†,⧬†8 show the formation of Heusler single phase of the Cu2MnAl structure. Further increase of Ga content gives rise to the formation of Œ≥-Cu9Al4 type phase together with Cu2MnAl Heusler phase. The alloys are ferromagnetically ordered and the saturation magnetization (Ms) decreases slightly with increasing Ga concentration. Annealing of the ribbons significantly changes the magnetic properties of Cu50Mn25Al25-xGax alloys. The splitting in the zero field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) magnetization curves at low temperature has been observed for alloys. Another important class of material is Nanoferrites. The structural and magnetization behaviour of spinel MFe2O4 nanoferrites are quite different from that of bulk ferrites. X-ray diffraction study revealed spinel structure of MFe2O4 nanoparticles. The observed ferromagnetic behaviour of MFe2O4 depends on the nanostructural shape as well as ferrite inversion degree. The magnetic interactions in Ce doped CoFe2O4 are antiferromagnetic that was confirmed by zero field/field cooling measurements at 100¬†Oe. Log R (Œ©) response measurement of MgFe2O4 thin film was taken for 10,Äì90% relative humidity (% RH) change at 300¬†K.
